Casey Hampton, Defensive Tackle (1996, 1998-2000)
Long before he was winning Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Casey Hampton was a problem for opposing offensive lines in the Big 12. Hampton was never a huge sack contributor for the Longhorns defense but he was a disruptor on the interior of the defense.
During his time in Austin, Hampton accounted for 329 total tackles, 9.5 sacks, 56 quarterback pressures, 54 tackles for loss, nine forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. His 54 TFL’s put him 5th on the school’s all-time list.
In 1999, Hampton led the team with 101 tackles. That helped earn him All-Big 12 honors as well as All-American honors as a junior. During his senior season he would once again lead the team with 78 tackles. He was also named a consensus All-American, All-Big 12 and the Big 12’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Hampton would be selected 19th overall in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers where he played for 12 years. During that time he would be named to the Pro Bowl five times. He is also a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time team. Hampton was a member of two Super Bowl winning teams. He appeared in 173 games over his career with 374 combined tackles, nine sacks, four forced fumbles and two recoveries.
