If the 2019 draft taught us anything, it’s that the Raiders are going to target players from big schools that played in the biggest games. Last year alone, they selected three players from Clemson, one from Alabama, one from LSU and another from Mississippi State.
Considering Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden’s love for Clemson players, it wouldn’t be a surprise if A.J. Terrell, a cornerback for the Tigers, was the pick at No. 19. In Daniel Jeremiah’s latest mock draft at NFL.com, that was the pick for the Raiders as he is now paired with his former teammate in Trayvon Mullen.
Like Mullen, Terrell has excellent size and speed and has shown the ability to play in press-man coverage. Both cornerbacks need to continue to work on their technique as they can get sloppy from time to time, but are often able to overcome it with above-average instincts and athleticism. With the Raiders likely playing more press-coverage in 2020, grabbing Terrell at pick No. 19 would make a lot of sense. He is a plug-and-play cornerback who is just starting to scratch the ceiling of his potential. If he can clean up some of his issues as a run-defender, there is no reason why he can’t be a Pro Bowl cornerback at the next level.
If the Raiders select a wide receiver at pick No. 12 in the first round, look for Terrell to be one of the few names the Raiders consider at pick No. 19.
