The Washington Commanders picked up their first win of the season, defeating the New York Giants 21-18 on Sunday. Washington didn’t score a touchdown despite rolling up 425 yards of total offense against New York. New Commanders’ kicker Austin Seibert made all seven field goal attempts in his first game with Washington.
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had another efficient day, completing 23 of 29 passes for 226 yards. Daniels also rushed for 44 yards, but running back Brian Robinson Jr. was the star of the day, rushing for a career-high 133 yards. The Commanders finished the day game with 215 rushing yards.

Offense
Robinson played in 43 of Washington’s 72 offensive snaps, with Ekeler in on 31 snaps. While Robinson rushed for 133 yards, Ekeler finished with 85 total yards from scrimmage, including 47 receiving yards.
Daniels went to the sideline for one play when he took a shot to the ribs. Right guard Sam Cosmi also missed a snap after he was poked in the eye.
Washington contained its rotation at left tackle, with veteran Cornelius Lucas receiving 69% of the snaps and rookie Brandon Coleman playing 31% of the offensive snaps.
Rookie tight end Ben Sinnott continues to play sparingly. It will be interesting to see if the Commanders gradually increase his snaps to play alongside Zach Ertz in the coming weeks.
Defense
Benjamin St-Juste continues to play every snap for the Commanders at cornerback, joined by safety Jeremy Chinn and future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner. Wagner and St-Juste had excellent games on Sunday.
Noah Igbinoghene and Michael Davis split reps opposite St-Juste in place of the injured Emmanuel Forbes. Davis started and struggled before giving way to Igbinoghene.
Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen both played 41 snaps, with Phidarian Mathis coming in for 15 plays and rookie Johnny Newton playing 12 in his NFL debut.
Clelin Ferrell led the defensive ends in snaps played with 37.
