Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard and defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis won’t play Thursday night against the Denver Broncos as both players are currently in the concussion protocol.
Following the Week 4 loss to the Tennessee Titans, the Colts are hurting badly. Leoanrd left the game during the second quarter following a nasty collision with linebacker Zaire Franklin.
Head coach Frank Reich told reporters Monday that Lewis came in with symptoms.
“Tyquan Lewis came in with concussion symptoms so he will be in the protocol and he will miss the game on Thursday. Obviously, Shaq (Shaquille Leonard) is also in concussion protocol. He will miss the game on Thursday as well,” Reich said.
This was to be expected, especially with the league finding itself in the middle of a concussion controversy surrounding Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Even if one or both players make a recovery and technically clear protocol, the Colts have already made the decision that they won’t play.
“On a Thursday game, it might be typical sometimes to make that. So, these decisions were already made. They will be out even if there was some miraculous whatever. They’ll be out,” Reich said.
So the Colts will be without Leonard, who made his debut after missing the first three games, and Lewis, who has been the fifth defensive lineman in the rotation.
