Chicago Bulls rookie Coby White grew up idolizing Chris Paul over the years so matching up with him on the court this season was a special moment for him.

Of course, White played AAU on Team CP3 and first developed a relationship with Paul when he was 16 years old. White said Paul would often check in on him in high school and in college and White even stopped in at Paul’s training facility in North Carolina over the summer.

On a recent episode of the “Bulls Talk” podcast, White discussed his relationship with Paul and what the veteran has meant to him throughout his career.

He was always there for me, checking in on me. And his family means a lot. His mom is real close to my mom. His dad came to a game just to come see me play this year. He came to Chicago just to come see me play. We weren’t playing Chris. He just wanted to come see me play and check in on me. His dad and mom play a big role and his brother, C.J.

White scored just two points against Paul and the Oklahoma City Thunder back in December but faced Paul during his recent hot streak in March and scored a career-high 35 points in that game.

Paul has been instrumental in the careers of several players over the years. His basketball IQ is among the best in the game and has offered plenty of advice for players with White just the latest example of his efforts.
