We now know when one of the Wolverines’ top targets in 2021 will make his choice. And it’s a bit of a ways off.

Michigan has been in hot pursuit of Westlake (CA) Village four-star defensive tackle Victory Vaka, who placed the maize and blue in his Top 5 last month — along with Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M and Florida State — but has maintained on Twitter that his recruitment remains ‘100% open.’

That said, the Wolverines and primary recruiter Shaun Nua will have to continue to remain in high pursuit for the 6-foot-3, 325-pound interior defensive lineman, but it won’t be until the probable heart of the season before they’ll know whether or not their efforts have paid off.

Vaka announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he would be making his final college decision on Sunday, November 15.

According to WolverinesWire’s own Evan Petzold, Vaka intends on taking an official visit to Ann Arbor on June 15, and has built a strong relationship with the aforementioned Nua, Michigan’s second-year defensive line coach.

“I love that guy,” Vaka told WolverinesWire. “I’m also in constant communication with coach Don Brown. Defensive tackle is a position of need, and I want to play early.”

Along with Oak Park (MI)’s Rayshaun Benny and Oradell (NJ) Bergen Catholic’s Tywone Malone, Vaka remains high on Michigan’s priority list at defensive tackle in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
