C.J. Stroud named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Stroud gets honored by the Big Ten for his Week 1 performance against Minnesota.

It’s Monday, and that must mean that the Big Ten is announcing its Players of the Week. Last week was a little funny because the conference still went through the motions despite only one league game being played.

This time around, it was completely different with every Big Ten team in action, with stadiums refreshingly shocked full of fans. We witnessed Ohio State take control of a game against Minnesota in the second half that was a little scary at times to start out 1-0.

A lot of OSU’s ebbs and flows throughout the game in Minneapolis had to do with the play of freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud. He started out well, then misfired through the middle of the game, only to come back and distribute the ball effectively to his playmakers on offense to finish with some pretty solid numbers.

And for his efforts, Stroud has been named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week. He finished 13-for-22 for 294 yards and four touchdowns Thursday night, and that’s not bad for a guy working in a hostile environment on national television for the first time.

Stroud is the first Freshman of the Week for Ohio State since — wait for it — Tate Martell was honored following a 10-for-10 performance against Rutgers back in 2018.

Stroud will look to build on his performance against a hyped-up game against Oregon this coming Saturday at Noon. You can watch it all go down live on FOX.
