Last year, Ohio State desperately wanted Michigan to field basically its scout team due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the program which caused the Wolverines to cancel their final three games. Now, the Buckeyes are complaining about the myriad things that went wrong when it got dominated, 42-27, in The Game.
Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud met with the media on Wednesday on the heels of being named a Heisman Trophy finalist, and naturally was asked about his loss to the Wolverines.
First, he said he’s not making excuses for his team’s loss, but then makes the excuse that many on his team had the flu.
C.J. Stroud says "I'm not making excuses," but that many of the Buckeyes having the flu for the Michigan game "kind of does matter."

If that wasn’t enough, Stroud went on to say that Ohio State is better than both Michigan and Oregon, two teams who handled the Buckeyes when they played head-to-head.
CJ Stroud: "We lost two games this year. I don't think either of those teams are better than us.
"But you have to show those teams respect because college football is about which team is the best on that day."

Look, we get it. And maybe a healthy Ohio State team doesn’t get out-physicaled in The Game the way it did. But against Michigan, there really is little debate, given the method that the Wolverines dominated: in the trenches.
There have been countless excuses from Ohio State fans and media about the loss, including this from Letterman Row’s Austin Ward, which he noted while watching Michigan vs. Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Guess what? The Game has never, ever been in a dome, and has always been on the campus of either team. So that’s just silly.
Nonetheless, for at least a year, Michigan football fans can bask in the Buckeyes completely losing it after the Wolverines finally took it to them after a decade-long hiatus.
