In a predictable turn of events, the Cincinnati Bengals won’t pick up the fifth-year option on offensive lineman Billy Price.
Price is the first 2018 first-rounder to have his fifth-year option declined. It would have paid him roughly $10.4 million in guaranteed cash. Instead, he’ll head to free agency after the upcoming season.
A fall-back plan for the Bengals after Frank Ragnow, Price’s illustrious collegiate career never translated to the pros, as the Ohio State product struggled to stay healthy and productive when on the field. He started 10 games as a rookie but didn’t match that output in the ensuing years.
The news dropped on the day before the 2021 draft, where the Bengals figure to use multiple picks on addressing the offensive line. Going into the summer, Price figures to be fighting for his roster spot despite the return of line coach Frank Pollack.
