The Kansas City Chiefs offense has been lethal since preseason with Patrick Mahomes under center. The former league MVP has been sharp in 2022, connecting with multiple receivers and keeping defenses on their heels.

The explosion to start the new season for the Chiefs offense has caught some critics by surprise following the offseason trade of Tyreek Hill. The infusion of veterans such as JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and rookies Skyy Moore and Isiah Pacheco has added even more dynamic elements to the already potent offensive unit.

Mahomes expressed his thoughts on the progress made by the offense after two weeks.

“Yeah, I think we just keep getting better. We’ve done some great things,” Mahomes told reporters on Wednesday. “We’ve also done stuff that we can get better at. We got to just continue to find ways to have explosive plays.”

Mahomes is off to another MVP-caliber start with 595 passing yards, seven touchdowns, no interceptions and a 73.0% completion rating. He is sporting a 127.9 quarterback rating and a few new highlights to add to his career reel as well.

The All-Pro QB knows that defenses will ramp up their strategy whenever they faceoff, and he continues to preach patience and growth within the offense..

“I know it’s tough sometimes with the defenses that we get, but we want to make sure we still take advantage of (explosive plays in the passing game) and keep that in our offense,” said Mahomes. “And then whenever we need to be patient and drive the length of the field, we got to continue to do that. So, you’ll keep getting better with new receivers and younger guys that can kind of evolve in the offense, and we keep opening the offense up even more.”

It’s a small sample size, but Mahomes is sporting a perfect statistical start to the new season and by that measure so is the rest of the offense. The new-look unit has impressed early, but Mahomes understands they’ll need to evolve and make adjustments throughout the course of the year in order to be their best for a full 17-game season.
