Charles Barkley is many things, one of Auburn’s biggest assets, one of the best basketball players of all time, a humanitarian but on Sunday he is first and foremost a gambler, who has won bets over Kentucky’s John Calipari.
Like many Americans, he thought the Cleveland Browns would beat the Houston Texans by more than 4.5-points and put his money on the line.
Cleveland won the game 10-7, which was not enough to cover the spread. This is a common enough occurrence but what made this such a “Bad Beat” was a play by Nick Chubb.
Chubb broke a 59-yard run to seal the victory but instead of scoring the touchdowns, stepped out of bounds on the 1-yard line, allowing the Browns to kneel out the clock and win the game.
Barkley was on ESPN’s Cleveland radio station Thursday when he voiced his frustration with Chubb, and as he always does it was in a colorful manner.
“If you guys see Nick Chubb, please just punch him in his face for me,” Barkley said. “I had the Browns last week and let me tell you something — I don’t know Nick Chubb, he’s a nice kid, but if he runs out of bounds like that again I’m going to fly to Cleveland personally and beat the hell out of him. I’m jumping up and down thinking I’m going to get this cover, and when he ran out of bounds, I was like, ‘Wait. Did he just run out of bounds?’ So next time I see Nick Chubb, I’m going to punch him in the face.”
Barkley may be a huge celebrity and made millions of dollars playing basketball, but people across the country had the exact same reaction that he did.
