According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the Chargers are bringing in Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley for a second interview.
Many believe that Bills offensive coordinator will land the job, but Los Angeles might not want to take the chances of losing Staley because if Daboll chooses not to take a head coaching position, they could miss out on who might be their next top candidate.
Daboll isn’t available to interview again until Jan. 25 after Buffalo beat the Ravens on Saturday night.
Staley had his first interview with the team last weekend. The Rams’ season came to an end on Saturday after losing to the Packers in the AFC Divisional Round.
Staley, 38, finished his first season as an NFL defensive coordinator, where he was the engineer of the league’s top ranked defense in terms of points and yards allowed.
Before that, Staley was an outside linebackers coach for the Bears and Broncos.
Chargers general manager Tom Telesco and Staley have a connection through John Carrol University. Telesco played wide receiver there and Staley later served as defensive coordinator after Telesco’s playing days were over.
