Top three centers in the Big Ten for 2023

The Big Ten has some stud centers going into 2023 #B1G #GoBucks

We had a really easy time picking guards, because of the abundance of talent at the position in the Big Ten, but pickings are a bit slimmer at offensive tackle and now we see center is a bit slim as well. It is also not a good sign that we have yet another offensive line position group that does not include an Ohio State Buckeye.

I hope someone for Ohio State steps up because it is not the best omen that Michigan has had a representative in every position group and Ohio State has only shown up within the guard list. Now let’s dive into the centers.

Top three offensive tackles in Big Ten for 2023

No Buckeyes make the top offensive tackle list #GoBucks #B1G

The Big Ten is known for its powerful offense and great offensive lines, but I am not so sure that will be the case this year. At the offensive tackle position, there are two top-flight, elite-level possible first-round draft choices and then there are a few guys with the potential to break out.

The two top-flight prospects are numbers one and two, but the order of those players will surprise most. The third player chosen isn’t even a projected starter by most pundits but was a highly recruited kid with some serious hype.

Ohio State fans may be a little disappointed by the absence of Buckeyes, but when comparing what resides in Columbus to the rest of the conference, it makes sense.

USWNT World Cup roster includes Wisconsin alum

With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup set to begin July 20, the USWNT roster was announced Wednesday and it included a former Badger.

With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup set to begin July 20, the USWNT roster was announced Wednesday and it included a former Wisconsin Badger midfielder. A member of the Badger women’s soccer team from 2013-2016, Rose Lavelle will appear in her second World Cup.

The 5-foot-4 athlete was a superstar for the United States women’s national soccer team during the 2019 World Cup, winning the Bronze Ball as the third-best player in the tournament.

This comes as no surprise though after her successful career with Wisconsin, after she won many awards with the Badgers. These include the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year award, her being named a 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and Lavelle being selected for an All-American team each year from 2014-2016.

Lavelle went on to be selected first overall in the 2017 NWSL Draft by the Boston Breakers and she is one of the very best soccer players in the world, let alone country.

The 2023 college football season is right around the corner and the Big Ten is loaded with top-notch talent and predicting who will end up on the All-Big Ten has proven challenging. Not only was it hard to choose one player over another, but it was also hard to admit that the Michigan Wolverines have a number of studs that will potentially wreak havoc on the rest of the conference.

This list is going to dive into the offensive linemen and as expected the Big Ten has some dominant offensive linemen that make it very hard to narrow it down to just five. This list will not make Ohio State fans happy, but the reality is there is some elite talent in the trenches of the Big Ten.

In the age of the transfer portal, it is possible for a complete dark horse to rise as a frontrunner, but we will do our best to provide the most educated guess based on previous performances and situations.

Michigan State pulls away late to defeat Wisconsin 69-65

The Spartans pull away late

With Michigan State traveling to the Kohl Center on Tuesday, the Badgers were unable to get back in the win column, losing to the Spartans 69-65. Operating without leading scorer Tyler Wahl (ankle), Wisconsin had three players score in double-digits including Steven Crowl (19), Chucky Hepburn (14) and Connor Essegian (13). Crowl in particular came alive in the second half, producing 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 0-1 FT).

On the opposite side for Michigan State, Stevens Point native Joey Hauser led the way with 20 points (6-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT) while Tyson Walker (13), Jaden Akins (12) and A.J. Hoggard (10) also reached double-digits. The Spartans were able to go 16-17 from the free-throw line, with the only miss coming on a questionable and-one attempt for Malik Hall late in the second half. Some may say, ball don’t lie.

Tom Izzo’s squad took a 33-31 lead into halftime and were able to gut out a two-point advantage again in the second half out scoring Wisconsin 36-34. The Spartans out rebounding the Badgers 18-7 in back half of the contest.

Overall, Wisconsin was able to take advantage of turnovers in the contest, turning 14 MSU mistakes into 27 points on the opposite end, outscoring the Spartans 27-2 in that category, but it wasn’t enough for the Badgers to end up on top. Michigan State made their final eight field-goal attempts and were able to eek out the 69-65 victory on the road.

With the loss, Wisconsin is now 11-4 on the campaign and 3-2 versus the Big Ten. Up next for the Badgers, they will take on Indiana in Bloomington on Saturday at 12pm CT before returning to the Kohl Center on Jan. 17 to take on Penn State.

Michigan State moves to 12-4 with a 4-1 Big Ten record. The Spartans will head to Champaign to face off with the Fighting Illini on Friday before heading back home Monday to face the #3 ranked Purdue Boilermakers.
