Cincinnati (3-0) vs SMU (5-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Cincinnati Will Win

The Bearcat defense is about to get a big test, and it has the talent to come through.

It held the Army running game to 182 yards, and despite allowing over 200 passing yards in two of the three games, the production didn’t really go anywhere.

The Bearcats lead the nation in pass efficiency defense, but to be fair, they haven’t faced anything like the SMU offense. Even so, the seven interceptions in three games are impressive – five against USF – and the D has yet to allow a touchdown pass.

On the other side, here comes the Bearcat running game. It hasn’t been a killer so far, but it should be able to roll for at least 200 yards against a D that gave up 189 rushing yards or more in the four games against FBS teams.

CFN Experts Picks: College

Why SMU Will Win

Can Cincinnati keep up the pace? It has the defense, and it has a good enough ground game, but its style is about keeping control and not having to get into a shootout.

Now the Bearcats have to go from 0-to-60 when it comes to dealing with a real passing game. SMU’s air show hasn’t just been great; it has taken things to another level under head coach Sonny Dykes. The Mustangs threw for over 700 yards in the first two games, and then went off against Tulane and Memphis for well over 400 yards against each one.

With this offense, SMU has been able to control the clock, win on third downs, and it has the potential to take Cincinnati out of its game.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Get ready for Cincinnati to stretch its offensive legs a bit, because it’ll have to.

SMU will come up with enough production with the passing game to keep everything going, but it’ll stall too often. The Bearcats will bend but not break enough as the one of the nation’s best red zone defenses will hold firm and hold on late.

Wyoming (0-0) vs Nevada (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Wyoming Will Win

You sort of know what’s coming. Lather, rinse, repeat …

Play great defense, count on the running game, suffocate the opposing offensive game plan.

The Cowboys will start running and keep running with speed, experience, and power, starting with Xazavian Valladay working behind a line that was banged up last year but is now a whole lot better. The Cowboys, though, will try to win by setting the offense up with good field position from defensive stop after defensive stop.

The Nevada offensive line is experienced, but it wasn’t all that great last year and now has to deal with a terrific Cowboy defensive interior.

CFN Experts Picks: College

Why Nevada Will Win

There won’t be a whole lot to worry about with the Wyoming passing game.

The ground attack will be okay, but the Cowboys don’t have the receivers to push a Nevada secondary that’s fine, but nothing special.

The Wolf Pack has a good young quarterback in Carson Strong and a good-looking 1-2 receiving punch in Elijah Cooks and Romeo Doubs. Wyoming doesn’t have the offense to pull away with this, but Nevada should have the passing game to strike quickly.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Don’t expect Wyoming to change what works. It’ll run the ball, slow the game down, rely on the defense, and try to dominate on third downs. Nevada will have its offensive moments at home, but not enough of them.

The Cowboys will have to press a bit in the second half after the Wolf Pack come up with a few early scores after halftime, but they’ll own the clock and the tempo.

College Football Free Predictions, Previews Winners and Whiners: Week 8

[jwplayer PkCtjTd4-boEY74VG]

From Winners and Whiners

We’re in Week 8 in College Football and that means the Big 10 and Mountain West make open up No. 20 Michigan at No. 25 Minnesota, No. 2 Alabama at No. 21 Tennessee, No. 18 Iowa State at No. 6 Oklahoma State

(note:Some of these picks were made by our Editor and are subject to change)

*Michigan takes on Minnesota on Saturday night as the Big 10 opens their schedule. It’s going to be a cold one from TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. It’s only late October and you can only imagine what it’s going to be like in late November in Minnesota. The Golden Gophers won 11 games last season for the first time since 1904. They face a Michigan team with a question mark at quarterback. Joe Milton and Dylan McCaffrey are 6-5 quarterbacks, but they have little to no experience. The Gophers return QB Tanner Morgan and Rashod Bateman, who caught 60 passes for 1,219 yards and 11 TDs. There are question marks on the Minnesota defense, but that won’t be enough to limit their production. Take the points and the Gophers.

*Alabama showed who the best team was in the SEC last week after an impressive 41-24 win over Georgia at home. Their defense came up big after they struggled against Ole Miss. Now they face a Tennessee team that got destroyed by Kentucky at home last week by 27. Jarrett Guarantano threw consecutive pick-sixes in the second quarter. Expect him to be benched, but Jeremy Pruitt won’t give away who his starter is. Who really wants to play against Alabama? None of the Vols’ quarterbacks unless Peyton Manning has an extra year of eligibility. The Tide wins big on the road, covering the number.

*Iowa State faces Oklahoma State in one of the top Big 12 games thus far. Oklahoma State hasn’t played since Oct. 3 due to some COVID-19 issues. The additional rest should allow them to start Spencer Sanders again at QB, though they have been relying on Shane Illingworth. Mike Gundy said he could play both quarterbacks. Iowa State offers a very good QB in Brock Purdy and an outstanding runner in Breece Hall. They are 3-0 in the Big 12 after opening up with a bad loss to Louisiana at home 31-14. It’s tough to win with rotating quarterbacks and having so many disruptions at practice. Take the Cyclones as the road dog.

Hawaii (0-0) vs Fresno State (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Hawaii Will Win

The show goes on.

The passing game might not be quite as high-flying under new head coach Todd Graham, but it’ll still be front and center for an offense with a whole lot of explosive weapons for QB Chevan Cordeiro to work with.

Transfer Rico Bussey is a true No. 1 as part of a revamped group that will push a Fresno State secondary that has to replace a few key parts. Also, with all five starters expected back, the offensive line should be a plus for a running game that will be utilized a whole lot more under the new coaching staff. However …

CFN Experts Picks: College

Why Fresno State Will Win

Fresno State’s offense should be a lot more interesting under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.

The Fresno State defense has been great over the last few years, and the O will work around RB Ronnie Rivers, but new starting QB Jake Haener – a transfer from Washington – will push the ball down the field more than last year’s offense did.

However, this will be about the Fresno State running game. The Hawaii defensive front couldn’t stop the run last season, and it doesn’t have the experience in place to be great from the start. Overall, the Rainbow Warrior defense needs a bit too much work without a bit of a warm-up.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Expect Fresno State to start being interesting on offense again.

The defense will still be okay, but as long as the offensive line is at least passable, it’ll control the game throughout with its experience and toughness battering away in the second half.

San Diego State (0-0) vs UNLV (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why UNLV Will Win

Here comes the offense – at least that’s what the Rebels are hoping for with new head coach Marcus Arroyo.

The former Oregon offensive coordinator is going to open things up, utilize a loaded receiving corps that gets almost everyone of note back, and will work around RB Charles Williams to carry the load. At the very least, the ground game should be able to provide a bit of a push.

At the very least, there should be more of an explosive element than last year’s team showed. However …

CFN Experts Picks: College

Why San Diego State Will Win

New head coach Brady Hoke is going to ramp up the offense.

San Diego State – as always – will have a nasty defensive front, but with new quarterback Carson Baker – or possibly Georgia Tech transfer Lucas Johnson, at times – here comes the tempo. However, the Aztecs will run behind what should be an improved line and let the D be the D.

The linebacking corps should be among the best in the Mountain West, and the secondary should be a dominant force.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

UNLV will be more interesting, and San Diego State will come up with more offensive production than it did throughout last season, but it’ll still come down to the defense. The Aztec secondary will take over, and the offense will grind it out, even if it’s not all that smooth.

Air Force (1-0) vs San Jose State (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Air Force Will Win

Air Force already has a warm-up game under its belt – and it was brilliant.

The Falcons destroyed Navy 40-7, controlling the game with 369 rushing yards and looking and playing sharp from the start. The San Jose State defense has been getting better, and there’s experience returning, but it’s about to have problems with the Falcon offense.

Last year, the Falcons rumbled for 382 yards on the ground and 513 yards in all on the way to a relatively easy 41-24 win. The secondary is going to be a strength for the Spartans, but the defensive line will need a while to get going. Air Force won’t give them that.

CFN Experts Picks: College

Why San Jose State Will Win

No, the San Jose State defense isn’t going to dominate the Air Force running game, but the offense has the talent to keep up the pace and make this fun.

The Spartan running backs are great, and the passing game will get going from the start.

The Spartan offense was terrific last year with QB Josh Love at the helm, and now it has Arkansas and Texas A&M transfer Nick Starkel ready to bomb away. The receiving corps is going to be as strong as any in the Mountain West, and the offensive line will give everyone time to work.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

San Jose State won’t be able to keep the offense on the field enough.

Air Force will be sharp, but it’ll have to overcome a few big plays from a Spartan offense that will hit just enough home runs to keep this from getting out of hand.

Boise State (0-0) vs Utah State (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Utah State Will Win

Can the Utah State defensive front get into the backfield from the start? The Boise State offense line isn’t going to be bad, but it has to undergo an overhaul after losing four starters and not having any tune-up time. The Bronco defensive front has to make several changes, too.

Utah State’s offensive line should be among the best in the Mountain West. It’s loaded with veterans, the running game will be good, and Utah transfer Jason Shelley is a strong replacement for Jordan Love at quarterback.

Head coach Gary Andersen has a solid team in place, but …

CFN Experts Picks: College

Why Boise State Will Win

The Utah State defensive front wasn’t quite good enough last year, it struggled against the run, and now it loses a whole lot of key parts.

Yeah, the Boise State offensive line is all but starting over, but RB George Halani should be in for a big game, and QB Hank Bachmeier has a good enough receiving corps to push the Aggie secondary.

The Utah State pass defense wasn’t good enough last year – and should be a bit of a concern early on – to overcome the new parts up front.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

Boise State will take over in the second half.

Utah State will be good. It won’t make a whole slew of mistakes, and the offense will keep up the pace for a while, but the Boise State defensive front will take over as the game goes on.

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

At the very least, the team is rested and fresh with just one game played so far and no games since October 3rd. The offensive line had a good first game in the loss to Charlotte, there weren’t any giveaways, and QB Nick Tronti had a decent first game.

The Indiana transfer only hit 11-of-22 passes, but he threw for two scores and ran for a team-high 94 yards and a score. Marshall has a pass rush, but it doesn’t make a whole lot of plays behind the line. The more time Tronti gets, the better.

Why Marshall Will Win

The Herd have been air-tight so far.

They’ve only turned it over three times, they’re phenomenal on third downs on both sides of the ball, and they’ve been great at maintaining a near-perfect offensive balance – rushing for 854 yards and throwing for 897.

The downfield passing game has been great, but Marshall might make this easy – run, control the tempo, and rely on the terrific midrange passing game to keep things moving.

Marshall has kept the ball for over 34 minutes a game. FAU had it for just over 22 minutes against Charlotte.

What’s Going To Happen

Marshall is rolling.

QB Grant Wells has been great, RB Brenden Knox and the ground attack have rocked, and the lines have been outstanding. FAU is going to be good as the season goes on and the team can finally get going, but Marshall is playing too well.
