Why Tampa Bay Will Win

The defense has been a killer.

As much as the offense has stepped it up over the last few weeks, and as well as the passing game is clicking, it’s the defends that’s taking things to another level – it hasn’t allowed 100 yards rushing all year and forced 12 turnovers in the last ten games.

The Giants are running better lately – coming off a season-high 160 yards against Philadelphia – but that’s not happening this week. But …

Why New York Will Win

The Giant run defense has been terrific, too.

Most of the issues this year have been on the offensive side. The defense has held up well against shots down the field, and the front has only allowed over 100 yards once in the last five games.

There have been just enough takeaways to make a difference. Tampa Bay isn’t giving the ball away – just two in the last five games – but the Giants have to come up with at least two. That’s possible, but … (it’ll be in the What’s Going To Happen)

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Mike Evans, Tampa Bay
Evans has only been targeted twice in each of the past two games. This suggests that Evans’ ankle is not 100%. On the eve of Antonio Brown joining the team, here’s a hunch that Bruce Arians will make a point to feed Evans with a whole lot of targets and a whole lot of production.

What’s Going To Happen

The Giants have a massive turnover problem. They’ve given it up 13 times with three giveaways last week and two or more four times on the year.

The Buccaneer defense isn’t going to give up more than 20 with two takeaways leading to easy points to pull away in the second half.

Everyone is getting fat on the Seattle defense.

Everyone has to bomb away to keep up, but it’s working against the NFL’s worst pass defense.

How bad is it? Minnesota is the only team that failed to throw for 300 yards, and that’s because it was busy powering away for over 200 yards. Jimmy Garoppolo is healthy again and it’s showing with two good performances in a row – blow off the two picks against New England. He should be in for his first 300-yard game of the year.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Brandon Aiyuk, San Francisco
Kyle Shanahan likes to spread the ball around among his RBs and WRs. But due to injuries he is running out of RBs and WRs to spread the ball. Aiyuk is healthy and coming off a huge day against New England with seven receptions for 115 yards. With Deebo Samuel out, it’s Georgia Kittle, and it’s Aiyuk.

What’s Going To Happen

San Francisco will have to deal with an offense.

Russell Wilson won’t get help from the ground game like he did over the last few weeks, but he’s going to spread it around enough to set a pace the Niners won’t be able to keep up with.

Why Chicago Will Win

The defense continues to be fantastic.

It leads the NFL with the fewest touchdown passes allowed, it’s amazing in third down stops, and it’s got the toughness up front to keep the Saints to under 100 rushing yards for the fifth time in seven games.

This is a bend-but-rarely-break D, and New Orleans doesn’t have the consistent home run hitting ability to bust through that. Michael Thomas is still out, and the Bears have the athleticism and tackling in the back seven to keep Alvin Kamara from doing big things on the move on his short catches.

Why New Orleans Will Win

Chicago’s offense is awful.

It can’t run, it doesn’t even pretend to to try at times, and Nick Foles just isn’t good enough to make up for it with a downfield passing game.

The Bears haven’t rushed for more than 65 yards in any of the last four games, and the offense hasn’t pushed past 280 yards in total O in any of the last four games.

Be floored if the Saints allow more than 75 Chicago Bear rushing yards.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB Latavius Murray, New Orleans
Choose to avoid the Bears defense if can, but it gave up an alarming 160 rushing yards last week to the Rams. Of course, the Chicago offense is the Chicago offense and it’ll have trouble scoring. To control the game, Murray should pound away just enough to try giving Drew Brees manageable third down tries.

What’s Going To Happen

Chicago will find a way at home.

The offense still won’t do anything consistently well, and the defense will work wonders with duct tape and a few prayers with a ton of third down stops. New Orleans will seem like it’s in control, but the points won’t match the optics.

Why Los Angeles Will Win

Denver doesn’t have an offense.

It’s had a slew of injuries, and it hasn’t found anything that consistently works, but it isn’t keeping the chains moving and last week’s loss to Kansas City was the first time the O came up with more than 400 yards.

The Chargers are strong enough against the run to make this all about Drew Lock, and he has just one touchdown pass on the year. throw in the team’s 14 turnovers on the year, and the LA D should own this.

Why Denver Will Win

Even though the Chargers have been great in a whole slew of areas, it’s still trying to figure out how to win games.

It took a date against a miserable Jacksonville game to finally get the second win of the season.

The Denver offense might not be anything special, but the team overall deserves a bit of a break – being 2-4 stinks, but it faced Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh and Tennessee.

Now the team gets to play someone its own size, and the defense that hasn’t allowed more than 200 passing yards in any of the last three games should be able to hold Herbert in check.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

TE Noah Fant, Denver
Although he only managed three receptions for 24 yards last week, Fant led the Broncos receivers with 7 targets – Drew Lock always tries to find him, especially down the field. With Tim Patrick limited with a hamstring, Fant is a good bet to see 7+ targets against a Chargers D that’s mediocre against tight ends.

What’s Going To Happen

Denver is going to figure out how to pull this off at home, but it’s not going to be anything pretty.

The defense will generate a few key turnovers, the running game will nickel-and-dime its way to enough yards for a ton of field goals from Brandon McManus, and Drew Lock will finally throw a second touchdown pass.

Why Pittsburgh Will Win

The Steeler pass rush is special, and the pass protection has been amazing.

Lamar Jackson continues to be devastating when he gets going outside of the pocket – the Steelers have the guys on the outside to contain him.

Jackson and the passing game have been okay, but he has yet to throw for 300 yards and only hit the 200-yard mark twice. This is a running team that needs to pound away, wait for it … wait for it … wait for it … and then Jackson strikes deep. Pittsburgh’s run defense leads the NFL, allowing 104 rushing yards to Denver and fewer than 100 yards against everyone else.

Why Baltimore Will Win

Baltimore’s ground game leads the NFL, and it’s going to hammer away until the Steelers can stop it.

The Ravens dominate the field position battle, it’s outstanding at generating takeaways, and they’ve got the pass rush to bother Ben Roethlisberger more he’s been hit all year.

This is going to be a physical game all the way around, and the Ravens have had a week off to rest up and get ready, while the Steelers had to deal with a killer Tennessee team.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB JK Dobbins, Baltimore
This should be a defensive struggle, but with Mark Ingram likely out or limited for this match-up, Dobbins is going to get a bigger role no matter what. He only managed nine carries for 28 yards against the Eagles, but Dobbins could get to 15 carries in this one with Ingram doubtful.

What’s Going To Happen

Will the rested Baltimore ground game be able to get going against the red hot Pittsburgh defense that’s stuffing everything? This should be a battle that comes down the slightest error. The Steelers just find a way to get through week after week, but the fresher legs will matter.

Why Los Angeles Will Win

Tua Tagovailoa is going to be a special NFL quarterback who should have a fantastic career as long as he stays healthy.

He’s a rookie in his first start – welcome to Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald.

The Ram defense leads the NFL at keeping the deep plays to a minimum and is good enough overall against the pass to keep the new guy from getting into a groove.

The Dolphins will have to rely on the running game, and take the pressure off No. 1, but the Rams are nasty against the run and allowed just five rushing scores so far.

Why Miami Will Win

Miami wasn’t just Ryan Fitzpatrick.

He was fantastic, and the move to Tagovailoa is a curious one considering how well the team was playing, but the other parts were working, too, winning three of its last four games with all three victories ugly blowouts.

The secondary has been surprisingly solid, and the defense has stepped it up, allowing just 30 total points in those three wins before getting the week off.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

QB Tua Tagovailoa, Miami
All Ryan Fitzpatrick did was throw for over 300 yards in three games in four before rocking the Jets and sitting down so Tagovailoa could come in. No pressure, Tua, but the guy you’re replacing was fantastic. If the former Alabama star can match Fitzpatrick’s numbers, he’s a starter in almost any fantasy format. Don’t bank on that quite yet.

What’s Going To Happen

Tagovailoa will be fine, but he won’t be good enough against this magnificent defense. Miami looked great against Jacksonville and the Jets – and in a weird game by San Francisco – but that’s not happening against this Ram D.

It’ll be a close game at home, but Los Angeles won’t make the mistakes that Miami will.

All things considered, the Jet defense just isn’t all that bad.

It’s not great against the run, and it gives up a whole lot of big pass plays, but it’s okay on third downs and it’s great at taking the ball away. If the running game can get going against a Chief D that allowed was over 100 yards in every game but the win over Buffalo, there’s an outside chance the Jets can at least keep this from getting out of hand.

It’s going to take a whole slew of big stops and a few massive Kansas City mistakes to pull this off, but …

Why Kansas City Will Win

Kansas City doesn’t turn the ball over enough to matter.

It hasn’t given away more than one turnover in any game, and it’s not going to hand the ball off to the Jets four times to make up for the miserable O on the other side.

New York’s passing game hasn’t hit 200 yards since the opener against Buffalo, and it only came up with 91 in the rematch with the Bills last week. The Jets are last in the NFL in third down conversion, last in third down conversions, last in total yards, last in town field passing, and last in closing out drives with scores.

Two Chief drives could finish this off.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB Le’Veon Bell, Kansas City
You don’t think Mr. Bell wants a touchdown against his old team? Bell’s debut last week against the Broncos yielded promising early returns with 39 yards on six carries. This is still Clyde Edwards-Helaire’s running games, but Bell might just be the story.

What’s Going To Happen

Just how much does Kansas City want to rub it in?

It would be the upset of all upsets for the Jets to pull this off, but it’s still an NFL team full of NFL players with enough of a defense to keep this from getting totally ridiculous. The Chiefs will have this won after the first quarter and coast the rest of the way.

Why Green Bay Will Win

Green Bay fired at will in the opener.

Minnesota might have put up a few late yards and points, but Aaron Rodgers was phenomenal in the 43-34 win that wasn’t even that close.

The passing game continues to be tremendous, the running game was good enough without Aaron Jones, and the Minnesota pass defense hasn’t been a whole lot better.

Rodgers is about to throw for 300 yards again and keep the chains moving at will.

Why Minnesota Will Win

Minnesota might not do a whole lot of things right defensively, but it’s strong on third downs. It gives up too many big plays, but getting Rodgers off the field is everything this week.

Green Bay does a lot of things right defensively, but taking the ball away isn’t one of them. There have been four takeaways spread out over the season, but not enough to make all that much of a huge difference. Kirk Cousins might throw way too many picks, but the offense has been entertaining and the running game is usually fine.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Davante Adams, Green Bay
No one on the Vikings roster is capable of covering Adams. He had a monster 13-catch, 196-yard, 2 TD performance last week against the Texans, and he rocked the Vikings in Week 1. Even if Minnesota focuses on him, it shouldn’t matter fantasy-wise.

What’s Going To Happen

Aaron Jones ripped the Vikings to shreds in the first game and he’s out – it won’t matter all that much. Minnesota’s offense is making way too many mistakes with 12 giveaways so far, and Green Bay will get two takeaways in a game for the first time this season.

The production might not be consistent, but the lines are still great, the defense continues to be outstanding – it’s the second-best in the league – and now the offense is going against a defense that allows a whole lot of first downs. Indy will keep the chains moving.

Why Detroit Will Win

What happened to the Indianapolis running game?

It has an amazing offensive line and Jonathan Taylor to handle the work, but the ground attack has gotten progressively less productive in each of the last five games. Detroit’s run defense has stepped it up over the last few weeks.

It helped to play Jacksonville and Atlanta, but the D has been stronger, it has taken the ball away seven times in the last four games, and the team has won three of its last four games by allowing fewer than 24 points in all three.

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

RB Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis
Encouragingly, Taylor enjoyed his most prolific receiving day against the Bengals before the bye, catching all four of his targets for 55 yards. Although the Colts remain committed to getting other RBs involved, Taylor is the clear alpha male – he’s fresh-legged enough to push past 100 yards.

What’s Going To Happen

Detroit is finding ways to survive and win games – like the miraculous comeback victory over Atlanta – but now it’s going to have problems with the Indianapolis lines. It won’t be anything pretty, but the Colts will keep things moving with a balanced attack to grind their way to a win.

Why Cleveland Will Win

It’s time to get the running game going again.

Cleveland was among the best running teams in the NFL, but it failed to get to 100 rushing yards in each of the last two games. It’s about to change this week against a Las Vegas defense that’s been okay against the run lately, but is dead last in the NFL in touchdowns allowed on the ground.

Not having Nick Chubb around has been a problem, but the passing game has made up for it. Getting to 400 yards won’t be an issue against this D.

Why Las Vegas Will Win

The passing game continues to be terrific. It’s not turning the ball over with just two picks, Derek Carr is a rock for 250 yards a game or more, and the offense will keep on pressing a secondary that allows 240 passing yards or more in three of the last four games.
