Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings Game Preview

Why Green Bay Packers Will Win

The Packers have the defense to hold up against what’s coming.

While everyone in the NFC North is trying to get more pop to the attack, Green Bay has bee beefing up the other side. That’s about to pay off with a great group of corners in a pass defense that’s going to take the ball away in bunches.

The high-powered receivers might not be there with Davante Adams living his best life in Vegas, Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to turn the ball over, he’ll manage the game just fine, and the defense should be able to take care of the rest.

Week 1 CFN NFL Expert Picks

Why Minnesota Vikings Will Win

Are you buying into the new offense, the new coaching staff, and all the high-powered big things about to come with all of it?

Head coach Kevin O’Connell and offensive coordinator Wes Phillips are going to open it up more, and the weapons are there to do it.

Justin Jefferson doesn’t get quite enough love in a league that gushes over top receivers, but he’s about to take his stats and game up a few notches.

Kirk Cousins is better than you think – really, do the side-by-side stat comparison with the reigning MVP on the other side – and there’s a chance Minnesota just comes out and cranks up too much offense for Green Bay to keep up.

Week 1 NFL Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Minnesota will be flashier, the big plays will be there, and Cousins will put up big numbers …

And then 12 will have the ball late and he’ll pull this out of the fire.

It’ll be more of a slow-and-steady-wins-the-race thing for the Packers. A good mix of the ground game, tempo, clock possession, and third down conversions will overcome the haymakers from the other side.

Green Bay won’t be as exciting, but it’ll still look and play like the star of the North.

Why Green Bay Will Win

Green Bay fired at will in the opener.

Minnesota might have put up a few late yards and points, but Aaron Rodgers was phenomenal in the 43-34 win that wasn’t even that close.

The passing game continues to be tremendous, the running game was good enough without Aaron Jones, and the Minnesota pass defense hasn’t been a whole lot better.

Rodgers is about to throw for 300 yards again and keep the chains moving at will.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Minnesota Will Win

Minnesota might not do a whole lot of things right defensively, but it’s strong on third downs. It gives up too many big plays, but getting Rodgers off the field is everything this week.

Green Bay does a lot of things right defensively, but taking the ball away isn’t one of them. There have been four takeaways spread out over the season, but not enough to make all that much of a huge difference. Kirk Cousins might throw way too many picks, but the offense has been entertaining and the running game is usually fine.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Davante Adams, Green Bay
No one on the Vikings roster is capable of covering Adams. He had a monster 13-catch, 196-yard, 2 TD performance last week against the Texans, and he rocked the Vikings in Week 1. Even if Minnesota focuses on him, it shouldn’t matter fantasy-wise.

What’s Going To Happen

Aaron Jones ripped the Vikings to shreds in the first game and he’s out – it won’t matter all that much. Minnesota’s offense is making way too many mistakes with 12 giveaways so far, and Green Bay will get two takeaways in a game for the first time this season.

Prediction

Vikings 23, Packers Bay 20

Moneyline (?)

Minnesota is the only team in the league that is unbeaten at home this season (6-0) and has protected their home-field advantage extremely well, winning games by 16, 20, 18, 10, 6 and 13 points. That can explain why they have a big moneyline number (-239). The Packers are getting a good number (+190), and it’s rare for any 11-3 team to get that kind of love from the sportsbooks. We would lean toward the Vikings, but not by much given the return to go with Green Bay and the lack of it for Minnesota.

Against the Spread (?)

Minnesota has blown out the 3.5-point number all season and are the favorite despite giving up the points (-139). The money is going on Minnesota, which explains the spread, but if you’re willing to give Aaron Rodgers and the PACKERS +3.5 (+115) that many points, it’s hard to deny taking him. Go with the visitors.

New to sports betting? Every $1.15 wagered on the Packers moneyline will profit $1 if they don’t lose by 4 or more points or win outright.

Over/Under (?)

The Vikings and Packers tend to play games close to the vest and work the clock with long drives that drain the clock. Both defenses have been strong in the red zone and forced teams to settle for field goals more often than touchdowns. The Over 46.5 (+100) is getting better odds than the under (-121), but this one has the smell of a tightly contested, conservative game plan for both offense, which lends itself to lower scores. Take the UNDER 46.5.
