Why Washington Football Team Will Win

It’s all right there for the taking. If Washington wins, it’s in the NFL Playoffs as the No. 4 seed and the NFC East division championship. Lose, and the Dallas – New York Giant winner is in.

The Football Team has done everything possible to blow it over the last few weeks, but it launched Dwayne Haskins, it’s expecting Alex Smith to play, and the defense should be able to take care of the rest.

The two teams are vastly different since the opener – a 27-17 Football Team win – but the defense is solid enough overall – it’s fourth in the NFL – and is great at keeping the chain-moving to a minimum to pull this off.

It’ll come up with a few takeaways against an Eagle offense that couldn’t stop screwing up against Dallas.

Of course they’d rather be in the playoff mix, but to mess up Washington on Sunday night with the whole NFL watching isn’t a bad way to go out.

The Football Team is a bit of a mess. Alex Smith isn’t healthy, but he’s planning on giving it a go. There will be turnovers – even without Haskins – and there will be a whole lot of downfield passing plays. Jalen Hurts isn’t bad at bombing away, and Washington is.

Philadelphia will get the job done.

It hasn’t been able to do much of anything right all year, but the defense that can’t see to do much of anything right lately will bend but not break enough to matter, and Hurts will put on a good enough show to make him one of the hot new NFL stars to build around this offseason.

The Football Team won’t get enough from the ground game to slow things down in the third quarter.

It might seem a bit too rah-rah, but will JJ Watt’s comments do anything to motivate a team playing out the string?

The Texans couldn’t get by Cincinnati last week, but outside of not showing p against Chicago, the team has been close over the last month but with no breaks whatsoever.

The pressure is all on the Tennessee side. The Titan pass defense is lousy – everyone’s bombing away on this group – and for all the problems, Houston is hitting a whole lot of deep passes. The Texans lead the NFL in yards per attempt and Deshaun Watson continues to be brilliant ant taking care of the ball, but …

Why Tennessee Titans Will Win

The Houston defense just doesn’t take the ball away.

The Texan offense really is working just fine – there was even a ground attack against Cincinnati – but the defensive side is getting destroyed. There hasn’t been a takeaway in a month.

The team has gone seven of the last nine games without forcing a turnover, and the Titans have the offensive balance to take over right away and keep on going without worry of making a big mistake.

If Cincinnati can put up 540 yards of total offense, look out.

What’s Going To Happen

Tennessee can’t blow this.

It’s in the playoffs with a win, and it’s almost certainly going to be in with a loss – a Baltimore loss to Cincinnati or Miami loss to Buffalo would do it no matter what.

There won’t be any worries. Houston will make it a fun and will shootout, but the defense won’t have a prayer as the Titan offensive balance takes over in the second quarter. Derrick Henry will be Derrick Henry, but it’ll be Ryan Tannehill who dominates with a terrific day with both his legs as well as his arm.

Why Carolina Panthers Will Win

It’s been a rough year for the Panthers, but they can screw up the Saints in a big way – and it might not be that tough.

New Orleans doesn’t have any running backs.

Literally.

Alvin Kamara is on the COVID-19 list, as is Latavius Murray and the other top backups. Taysom Hill is still around, but it’ll be passing game or bust for a Saint offense that might not be able to get the job done with just Drew Brees going with his short to midrange passes.

Carolina might have a whole lot of problems, but it’s not getting touched too battle through the air and the team is doing a slew of the little things right to pull this off. However …

Why New Orleans Saints Will Win

The Panthers give up way too many deep plays.

It’ll be the Saint defense, though, that should take over against a pedestrian Panther attack that’s stalled. It failed to get to 300 yards of total offense against Washington last week, it’s not going to run the ball all that well against the Saint defensive front, and yeah, Brees can still throw.

He might not be quite right yet, but he the Saint passing game went for 319 yards against the Vikings and the coaching staff will be creative enough to get the O moving.

What’s Going To Happen

Carolina’s big issue is against the run. It got hit hard by the Saints the first time around in a tough 27-24 loss, and now that’s not going to be a concern.

There will be a steady diet of Taysom Hill, and Brees won’t be bad, but it’ll still be a fight.

The Saints can take the 1 seed – which would be a MASSIVE deal considering the running back issues – with a win, a Green Bay loss to Chicago, and with a Seattle win over San Francisco.

That won’t happen, but they’ll lock in the 2 seed with a win thanks to the defense and a huge day from Brees.

The team seems to dig screw up other teams.

Just when you think there’s nothing there and it’s a lost team just going through the motions, it rocks the Rams or shocks the Cardinals.

This is it. This is their bowl game, their playoff, their final game of the year with a chance to make a statement against a team that’s on a three-game winning streak, but is starting to fade in the passing game.

The Seahawks are fighting for a possible massive reward.

They won’t know what’s happening with the Green Bay-Chicago game, and they’ll be scoreboard-watching New Orleans and Carolina, but if the Packers and Saints lose, it’s No. 1 seed time with a win.

At the very least, with the issues with the Saints, a win should get Seattle up into the No. 2 spot.

Why Los Angeles Rams Will Win

Arizona isn’t going to be quite right.

Kyler Murray will play, but he’s fighting through a leg injury, the receiving corps is missing a few parts, and the team that appeared to be a lock to make the playoffs is almost literally limping into this game.

For all of the Rams’ problems, the defense hasn’t been bad – the offense has been the issue. If the LA defense can hold down the Cardinal attack that couldn’t get much moving against San Francisco, and if the passing game can get a good day out of John Wolford, they can pull this off.

All they need is for Chicago to lose.

Why Arizona Cardinals Will Win

Arizona is in with a win and it’s out with a loss. It’s that simple. The Bears are almost certainly going to have problems with the Packers, but Arizona should be able to take care of business against a shell of a Ram team.

The main running backs are likely out, Jared Goff won’t play, and the offense that was sputtering and coughing will have an even tougher time against a defense that’s keeping the big pass plays to a minimum.

The Cardinals are still running well, the offense is still among the best in the NFL – ranking second overall – and the run defense will shut down a banged up Ram backfield.

There will be some scoreboard watching going on. In a dream world for the Rams, Green Bay gets up 24-0 on Chicago and this becomes stress free, because they’re about to have a rough day.

The LA D will do what it can, but the O won’t provide a lick of help. It’s going to be a low-scoring fight with a whole lot of stress and strain in a win-or-go-home situation for the Cardinals.

They’ll go home, only because they’re playing on the road. They’ll win, Chicago will lose, and they’ll get in.

The Jaguars have the No. 1 pick. They have Trevor Lawrence, they might have Urban Meyer, or Dabo Swinney, or any one of a slew of coaches who might want to take over with a generational talent coming in at quarterback. They can turn it loose and try to screw up the Colts.

For all of the problems the Jaguars are having, they’re not as bad as Indianapolis is dealing with against anyone who can throw a forward pass. All of a sudden, the defense that was so nasty throughout the year is getting touched through the air, giving up over 300 yards in each of the last four games and in four of the last five.

The Jaguars are missing way too many parts with RB James Robinson out, DJ Chark and a few receivers not around, and the offense isn’t likely to do much after struggling to score over the last three games.

Indianapolis has to care. After choking away last week’s game to Pittsburgh, this will be a fully-focused Colt team that should be fine from the start and will be balanced against a Jaguar defense that’s getting bombed on.

Indianapolis has to win and then hope for Baltimore, Cleveland or Miami to lose. Part One won’t be a problem, and either Buffalo will take care of Miami and/or Pittsburgh will stop Cleveland.

Here’s the concern – the Colts will know where they stand. If Baltimore, Cleveland and Miami all win in the early games, will they show the fight needed once they play in the afternoon if they’re out of the playoffs?

There won’t be any issues. The Colts will take care of business fast and will get in after getting a little help.

It’s a push to say that Chicago just quit in the 41-25 loss, but the defense made a whole lot of business decisions.

Yeah, the Bear offense is better, the Green Bay run defense isn’t great, but none of that matters because Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are playing at an otherworldly level.

The Packer offense is toying with teams now, including through the snow in last week’s win over Tennessee.

Yes, Chicago is playing a whole lot better, but it was against Houston, Minnesota and Jacksonville. Green Bay is a whole different animal.

Green Bay cares.

It would’ve been a much easier task for Chicago if the Packers had the No. 1 seed locked up, but it has to win to lock it in. Lose, and they could miss on the all-important bye week if the Saints and/or Seahawks win.

There won’t be a problem.

Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers don’t lose big games against Chicago.

The Bears will play inspired for about a half, and then Rodgers and the passing game will go on two straight scoring drives to take over and end the drama.

Again, as good as Chicago has looked, it’s because it went against bad teams. Green Bay is just that strong.

Why Tampa Bay Will Win

The Bucs are in the playoffs and are all but locked in as as the 5 seed. Even so, they still need a win or risk dropping if the Rams beat Arizona.

Atlanta isn’t playing for anything and the defense is still going to be a problem. The Falcons balled out against Kansas City last week in a 17-14 loss, but it gave up over 300 yards to Tom Brady and the Bucs just two weeks ago.

The Buccaneer passing attack has been unstoppable over the last month, the team seems like it’s getting better as the season goes on, and Atlanta – on a four-game losing streak – doesn’t have the running production to slow things down and the healthy parts at receiver to keep up.

Why Atlanta Will Win

There’s nothing to lose except a few spots in the draft order. It’s got the No. 3 overall pick coming its way with a loss, but could potentially sink to at least the six with a loss.

The passing game still keeps on bombing. The defense did a great job of battling with Kansas City and keeping it close until late, it found a way to prevent Patrick Mahomes from going off, and it held the Tampa Bay running game in check two weeks ago.

Yeah, the Falcons are losing, but it’s been close game after close game.

What’s Going To Happen

Atlanta can’t really play the spoiler role in any way, so this is one of those pride games to try setting a good tone going into the rest of 2021.

It won’t happen.

Tom Brady is looking to get to 40 touchdown passes, the passing game is playing just well enough to keep on pressing, and the Tampa Bay defense that’s No. 1 in the NFL against the run isn’t going to allow a thing.

Brady will outduel Matt Ryan, but it’ll be a bit of a grind against the plucky Falcons.

New York isn’t getting much out of the offense lately, but the passing game has been okay, the Dallas run defense is still a disaster, and there’s a shot at home to keep the score low and the game at their level.

The Giants haven’t been able to get the ground attack going, but really, the Dallas run D is awful. It’s the worst in the NFL, allowing 125 yards or more in six of the last seven games. It’ll do that again.

The Giant offense hasn’t just stopped, but it’s stopped doing much of anything with just 26 points in the last three games and not hitting 20 points in any of the last five.

Dallas has gone on a three-game winning run with takeaways, coming up with ten in the last three games all while getting the passing game going again. It might not be like it was with Dak Prescott, but Andy Dalton is starting to crank up the attack.

What’s Going To Happen

The Washington game against Philadelphia isn’t until Sunday night. Before that, Dallas will keep its offense going, the Giants won’t be able to get enough out of the passing game to keep up, and even with well over 150 yards on the ground, it won’t be enough.

Dallas willet the win, and that it’ll get the Football Team pom-poms out.
