Miami Dolphins (9-5) vs Las Vegas raiders (7-7) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Miami Dolphins Will Win

The Miami defense continues to be a wall with the second-best pass defense in the league and leading the way in scoring D and takeaways.

The team isn’t perfect, it needs more downfield offensive pop and a much better ground game, but it’s doing most of the main things right. The one thing the Raiders do just about better than anyone is convert on third downs and keep the chains moving. Now they’re going against the best defense in the NFL on third downs.

Why Las Vegas Raiders Will Win

The Raiders seemed to have found their running game again.

It was lost for about a month, but the ground attack rolled against the Chargers in last week’s overtime loss. As great at the Miami defense has been, it’ll give up enough rushing yards to matter.

As mediocre to bad as the Raider defense has been, the offense is great at generating points off of its chances. The passing game is still bombing away even when the running game isn’t working, and Derek Carr is expected to be back after suffering a groin injury against the Chargers.

College Football Bowl Previews, Predictions

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

TE Darren Waller, Las Vegas
NFL defenses adjust to make sure the guy who went off the week before is held in check the following game, but of course you have to start Waller no matter if it’s Carr or Marcus Mariota throwing it to him.

He’s coming off a 150-yard, one-touchdown day just a few weeks after hitting the Jets for 200 yards and two scores. Miami’s defense might be nasty, but Waller has been targeted 39 times in the last three games and it’s not going to stop now.

What’s Going To Happen

The Dolphins are battling hard to get that seventh and last playoff spot, The Raiders need to win this, win next week, and pray for a whole lot of help. The Miami defense has been too good, too tight, and too consistent.

It’s not going to stop this week against a Vegas team that will be stopped just enough to allow Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphin offense to take advantage of the opportunities.

Arizona Cardinals (8-6) vs San Francisco (5-9) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why San Francisco Will Win

The Niners get to play the role of spoiler in a rare road game that’s not a road game – at least for the moment. They’ve been used to their temporary home in Glendale, and with no crowd, any sort of road advantage for the other side doesn’t matter.

The Cardinals pulled up out of their nosedive with tow straight wins, but the pass defense has bee hit hard for over 300 yards in two of the last three games. The Niners might not be winning, but they’re putting up a ton of yards through the air with close to 900 in the last three games, but …

Why Arizona Cardinals Will Win

San Francisco can’t stop turning the ball over.

All of the injury losses and all of the issues have stacked up in the ugly second half of the season. The defense is still tough, but the offense keeps putting that D in bad position after bad position with mistakes.

San Francisco has turned it over multiple times in each of the last eight games and in ten of the last 11. Arizona seems to find ways to overcome its turnovers, but it’s great when it’s the one forcing the errors going 5-1 when forcing multiple takeaways.

College Football Bowl Previews, Predictions

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

TE George Kittle, San Francisco
Are you really going to trust Kittle in your biggest game of the season? Back from the foot injury that kept him out over the last several weeks. He needs to be a part of the San Francisco midrange passing game that’s generating yards, but not enough success. Kittle only has two touchdown catches and two 100-yard games, but he’ll be targeted at least seven times.

What’s Going To Happen

Arizona desperately needs this to stay alive in the playoff hunt. It’s clinging to the final spot, but San Francisco is just dangerous enough to screw things up with a tough defense and a passing attack that can get hot.

However, the Niners will turn it over just enough to let the Cardinals overcome their own mistakes to get a harder-fought win that they might like.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5) vs Detroit Lions (5-9) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why Detroit Lions Will Win

The Tampa Bay secondary has struggled in a big way over the last several games. The one time it didn’t was when Minnesota spent the game two weeks ago running on the Bucs for the most yards they gave up all year on the ground.

In the other three games in the last four, Tampa Bay was hit for well over 300 yards. Playing Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff had something to do with that, and then Matt Ryan went off last week.

The Detroit passing game has a few issues and concerns – to put it mildly – but the O has hit 240 passing yards or more in eight of the last nine games.

Why Tampa Bay Buccaneers Will Win

Detroit has hit a wall.

It was bad before, and now Matthew Stafford is questionable at best, interim head coach Darrell Bevell is out, and the team continues to have defensive issues. How bad have things been? The NFL’s worst scoring defense has allowed 30 points or more in each of the last four games.

Tampa Bay can’t do too much maneuvering in the playoff chase, but a win makes the 5 seed possible. As long as Tom Brady and the passing game stay hot – not a problem against this Detroit secondary – this should be a breeze.

College Football Bowl Previews, Predictions

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

WR Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Can Godwin finally break out? He’s way, way, way over due for a big game with just four touchdown catches and no 100-yard days on the year. Mike Evans has been a force, Antonio Brown caught a big touchdown last week, and Rob Gronkowski has been a bigger part of the puzzle. If you’re ever going to play Godwin, this would be the week against this Detroit D.

What’s Going To Happen

Detroit is going to be plucky. It’s fighting, it’s been a different-energy team since Matt Patricia was fired, and …

It’s been awful.

The defense is struggling way too much, the offense shouldn’t be able to keep up if Tampa Bay gets off to a decent start, and the Bucs and Brady should stay hot.

Minnesota (6-8) vs New Orleans (10-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on the NFL, go to BetMGM

Why New Orleans Will Win

The Chicago Bears ran on the Minnesota Vikings.

Yeah, yeah, yeah the Bears are starting to run a little bit better, but whatever – there’s a problem if you’re getting hit for close to 200 yards by the Bears.

The Saint running game didn’t really work with Drew Brees under center, but that’s about to change. Expect more Alvin Kamara, more packages with Taysom Hill, and more of a commitment to the ground game that hit the 200-yard mark before the last two weeks.

Why Minnesota Will Win

The Saints have lost their mojo.

Drew Brees looked like a future NBC No. 1 analyst in last week’s loss to the Chiefs, the defense struggled against the run in the loss to the Eagles, and now the team gets a desperate Minnesota team that has to win and hope for a whole lot of luck.

For all of the good things the Saints do defensively and overall, the secondary can get popped. The stats are skewed because of the game against a quarterback-less Denver – and Kirk Cousins and the passing game are going to bomb away.

College Football Bowl Previews, Predictions

Fantasy Football Player To Watch

QB Drew Brees, New Orleans
Is Brees startable in your fantasy football playoff? Don’t just assume he’s done – assume he was rusty and still trying to come back after getting knocked out for a month. He only completed 44% of his passes against Kansas City, but still threw for 234 yards and three touchdown passes. He’s a risk in your big game, but if you get a chance to start a top quarterback against the Viking secondary, you do it.

What’s Going To Happen

The Vikings have a way of pulling out a brilliant performance from nowhere to screw up someone’s narrative, but the defense is struggling too much and it’s giving up too many big plays.

At home on Christmas after losing two straight, the Saints will get a good game out of Brees, a great game out of Kamara, and a win to stay in the hunt for the No. 1 seed.

With Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin not playing, the game plan for the Bucs was that Breshad Perriman would be the number one receiver for the team when the Houston Texans came to Tampa.

Perriman, coming off of a game where he had five catches for 113 yards and three touchdowns in the Bucs’ 38-17 win over the Detroit Lions, was not slowed down by the Texans defense either. Perriman saw 12 passes come his direction, and was able to haul in seven of them for 102 yards.

Throughout the game, Perriman had a series of toe-tapping catches on the sidelines and was clearly Jameis Winston’s go-to in the passing game. Fellow wide receiver Justin Watson saw 10 targets come in his direction and caught five of them for 43 yards and a score. When a team is missing their top receiver, there is usually a significant lull in the offense, let alone missing the top two targets, both of whom are over 1,000 yards receiving on the year. To have someone like Perriman that is capable of stepping up and filling the shoes left by Evans and Godwin, and effectively filled the void, is a blessing for any team.

On March 14, 2019, the Buccaneers brought in Perriman on a one-year contract for $4 million and he has shown what he can do for the team when he is utilized. This puts the Bucs in an interesting position on what to do with him going forward, but smart money says to bet on the team offering him another deal and get a full year of Evans, Godwin and Perriman in the Bruce Arians system, now that the team has seemingly fully bought in.

While Godwin has not been officially placed on IR alongside Evans, it’s assumed that Perriman will see the lions’ share of targets for the Week 17 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Instant Analysis: Winston’s four interceptions the difference in loss to Texans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw their four game winning-streak come to an end Saturday as they fell 23-20 to the Houston Texans.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw their four-game winning-streak come to a screeching halt today against the Houston Texans, falling to the now-AFC South Champions 23-20.

The Bucs got off to a rough start again, courtesy of quarterback Jameis Winston, who had two interceptions on the team’s first two drives, putting Tampa Bay in an early 10-0 hole. While the Bucs’ defense did a great job containing Deshaun Watson, it wasn’t enough to overcome the mistakes of the Bucs offense.

With that, here are some initial thoughts on today’s loss.

Winston continues to befuddle

While he may be dealing with a thumb injury, Winston’s interception problem isn’t something new. What’s most concerning is that he tends to have a knack for turning the ball over almost immediately in a game. The Bucs constantly seem to be playing from behind because of their quarterback. Granted, Winston can put up huge numbers, and his 335 yards today gives him 4,908 on the season. But, what good are big numbers if you’re going to turn the ball over so much? The team has decided to bring Winston back in 2020, but you can be sure they’ll find a backup quarterback capable of pushing Winston. (As I said the other day, Winston can thank Blaine Gabbert’s injury for his return to the Bucs.)

Jason Pierre-Paul shines

Pierre-Paul had three of the team’s five sacks today on Watson, who was held to just 184 yards passing with zero touchdowns and a pick. For JPP, it was the third three-sack game of his career, and the first since Week 6 of the 2017 season when he was with the New York Giants. Tampa Bay’s defense has been coming on strong in the second half of the year, and Pierre-Paul has been a big reason why. JPP is set to become a free agent at the end of the year, so these could very well be the last few games he plays for the Bucs. Nice to see he’s giving it his all.

Missed opportunities

The Bucs turned the ball over five times today (four interceptions by Winston and a lost fumble by running back Peyton Barer), yet still only lost by three points. For once, their defense was carrying this team, holding the Texans in check. But, Tampa Bay’s offense, which was playing with a depleted receiving corps, was unable to capitalize. In the end, the absence of playmakers coupled with the injury to Winston was just too much for Tampa Bay to overcome. Yet, despite all their mistakes, they still had a chance to win it in the end. And, as tough as the loss may be, that says a lot about this team and their ability to compete.

Buccaneers’ Week 16 inactives

Take a look at the list of inactives for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they head into today’s Week 16 matchup against the Houston Texans.

Here are your inactives today for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they prepare to take on the Houston Texans at home.

The Bucs will be playing on NFL Network, meaning they have a chance to show a national audience that they are the real deal after winning four-straight games. They’ll face the daunting task of trying to extend their winning-streak without their top two receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, both of whom have been sidelined for the remainder of the year with hamstring injuries.

That means Jameis Winston will be working with a bunch of unknowns. Winston is chasing history as he’s looking to become just the eighth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 5,000 yards in a season. The good news for Winston is that statistically, he’s performed well in Week 16 games. The bad news, however, is that the Bucs are 0-4 in those games.

With a win today, Houston will clinch the AFC South and punch their ticket to the postseason. They have more on the line than the Buccaneers, and given Tampa Bay’s depleted offense, the Texans may have the advantage today over the red-hot Bucs.

Behind Enemy Lines: 5 questions with Texans Wire ahead of Week 16

Find out what you should be on the lookout for in Week 16’s game between the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kick off Week 16 of the NFL season when they host the Houston Texans on Saturday.

The Texans can clinch the AFC South with a win, while the Bucs can push their season-long winning-streak to five. Tampa Bay will have to attempt to do so without their top two receivers as both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have been shut down with hamstring injuries.

While this game certainly means more for the Texans, the Bucs are that team you don’t want to face in December. We talked with Mark Lane of Texans Wire to get a better idea of what to expect from this Houston team.

Houston can win the AFC South with a win. What would you say the level of urgency is for the Texans heading into Saturday?

Very motivated and very urgent. The Texans would rather get the AFC South locked up and not have to face the Tennessee Titans in a win-and-get-in game in Week 17. Houston’s destiny is in their own hands. There’s a recency bias because they dropped a 38-24 home game to the Denver Broncos and rookie quarterback Drew Lock, trailing by as many as 31-3 at halftime, but they didn’t really have much to play for compared to Week 16. In that game, a win wasn’t going to help their bid to secure a first-round bye. There was nothing to clinch. When the game started to get out of hand, they kind of packed it in. Houston is going to be too motivated to let another blowout happen again at this stage in the season.

The Bucs will be without their top two receivers. How confident should the Texans secondary feel about slowing down Jameis Winston?

Very confident. The Texans’ secondary has a bevy of top flight cornerbacks in Johnathan Joseph, Bradley Roby, Gareon Conley, and Vernon Hargreaves. Now, the term “top flight” here means that they are either Pro Bowlers (Joseph) or first-round picks. It’s a lot easier to cobble together solutions working with blue chip talent such as that compared to the usual cornerback group. Safety Justin Reid has been an excellent leader on the back end in his second pro season, and safety Tashaun Gipson can guard any tight end in the game. The Texans’ coverage has been their strength on pass defense this year as opposed to the pass rush, which has historically been their strength.

Every year around this time we talk about the future of Bill O’Brien in Houston. Should we expect to see him back again in 2020 if the Texans have an early-round exit in the playoffs?

Somehow he’s sold the McNairs on his Patriot Way of doing things. When they fired general manager Brian Gaine on June 7, the Friday before mandatory minicamp, that was a battle O’Brien won. Since then, he’s mortgaged the future to afford necessary pieces such as left tackle Laremy Tunsil, receiver Kenny Stills, and made decent veteran acquisitions such as running back Carlos Hyde. And all of O’Brien’s trades have worked. They would have to be totally out-classed in the wild-card round for the McNairs to consider canning him. Right now, one could argue they need to replenish the pass rush and let the offensive line really jell before they can bid for a first-round bye.

What’s the one matchup we should be watching out for?

Jameis Winston versus the Texans’ secondary. If they are unable to capitalize on one of Winston’s giveaway throws, then it’s going to be a shootout, or at least a lot closer than folks are expecting, more along the lines of the -3.0 Texans that the odds-makers are giving this game. It’s entirely possible, by the way, because the Texans only have eight interceptions on the year, tied for the fifth-fewest in the league.

Who wins and why?

The Buccaneers are battered and playing for pride. The Texans are relatively healthy and playing for a playoff spot. I think Houston capitalizes on Tampa Bay’s turnovers and forces Winston to play from behind the whole game. Texans 26, Buccaneers 21

Find out how you can watch and listen to all of Week 16’s action between the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There are only two games left in the regular season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and, fortunately, both those contests will be at home.

Tampa Bay had one of the toughest schedules at the beginning of the year, playing five-straight games on the road, which included trips to Los Angeles, New Orleans, London, Tennessee and Seattle.

The Bucs went just 1-4 on that stretch, but they’ve gone 5-1 since returning home in Week 10. At 7-7, they have a chance to finish with their first winning record since 2016 if they can win out. They’ll be put to the test in Week 16 when the Houston Texans come to town. The Texans are looking to clinch a postseason berth still, while the Bucs will look to play spoiler down their top two receivers in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
