Portal Update: LSU DE Da’Shawn Womack planning to transfer

Five-star LSU DE Da’Shawn Womack is hitting the transfer portal

The transfer portal news continues out of LSU where defensive end [autotag]Da’Shawn Womack[/autotag] is the latest Tiger to hit the transfer portal.

Womack was a five-star recruit in the class of 2023. Womack didn’t take long to enter the rotation as a true freshman. He finished with eight pressures and two sacks in 79 snaps last year.

In 2024, Womack took a step forward but didn’t start with [autotag]Bradyn Swinson[/autotag] and [autotag]Sai’Vion Jones[/autotag] holding down the starting edge spots. Womack totaled 13 pressures and two sacks in 100 snaps this year.

Womack’s talent is undeniable. When he’s on the field, he has all the tools of a future first-round pick. LSU doesn’t want to lose a guy like this, especially with Womack preparing to enter his junior year. If Womack puts it all together, he’s going to be a serious player.

LSU was deep at the defensive end this year, thanks to guys like Womack providing depth. Swinson and Jones are off to the NFL now while Womack looks for another home.

It’s a clear position of need for LSU as we enter the transfer season.

Texas A&M is reportedly a contender to land former 5-star wide receiver

Former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson has entered the transfer portal, and the Aggies are in the mix

When wide receiver Micah Hudson committed to Texas Tech over Texas A&M this time last year, many predicted that his time in Lubbock would depend on his first-year production, which came to 8 receptions and 123 yards through the air.

Unsurprisingly, Hudson has entered the transfer portal and will be one of the more coveted players by nearly every wide receiver-needy program, including Texas A&M.

Rated as a top-30 ranked prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the Aggies came very close during Jimbo Fisher’s final season in landing Hudson, but A&M’s in-season failures likely resulted in the Temple, Texas native staying the course and signing with the Red Raiders.

Underutilized in Texas Tech’s offense, Hudson is too talented to sit and wait on any roster. Given the Aggies’ 2024 issues in the passing game due to a lack of playmaking talent in the wide receiver corps, Hudson’s speed, versatility, and route running skillset would be a no-brainer addition.

According to Rivals’ Adam Friedman, Micah Hudson’s top contenders include Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Colorado, and Texas A&M. I expect the Aggie coaching staff to be very active with Hudson over the next month.

LSU starting wide receiver CJ Daniels entering transfer portal

LSU’s offense took a hit on Tuesday with a top receiver entering the portal

LSU football took its most significant transfer portal yet on Tuesday with reports indicating wide receiver CJ Daniels plans to transfer.

The transfer portal officially opens next week, but names are flooding the market already.

Last week, LSU head coach Brian Kelly said the Tigers expected Daniels to return in 2025. He spent one year in Baton Rouge after transferring from Liberty.

2025 will be Daniels’ sixth year of college football. He has a COVID redshirt and took a redshirt in 2022, only playing four games.

Daniels dealt with an injury throughout 2024 but was a real contributor when he was in the lineup. He caught 42 passes for 480 yards and didn’t find the end zone.

In 2023 at Liberty, Daniels was one of the most efficient receivers in the country. He caught 55 passes for 1,067 yards, putting him at an average of 19.4 yards per catch. He caught 10 touchdowns too.

This is a loss for an LSU offense that looked a lot more stable with Daniels in the lineup.

So far, four Tigers are set to enter the portal. With the season just getting underway, there will be more.

MSU DE, former 4-star recruit Ken Talley to enter transfer portal

DE Ken Talley is the first known Spartans player to enter the transfer portal and leave the program since the regular season ended

The first ripple of a potential wave of players entering the transfer portal for Michigan State football has struck.

Defensive end Ken Talley made it known on Tuesday that he will enter the transfer portal when it officially opens next week. The postseason transfer portal will open on December 9, and Talley is the first known Spartan to announce he’ll enter the portal.

Talley is a former four-star prospect who originally committed to Penn State out of the 2022 class, but transferred to Michigan State prior to ever playing for the Nittany Lions of the 2022 season. In his two seasons with the Spartans, he appeared in 15 games and recorded 11 tackles — three were for loss and 1.5 were sacks.

Talley will have two years of eligibility remaining for wherever he lands out of the portal.

Alabama cornerback, former Top 50 recruit to reportedly enter transfer portal

A third Alabama player has now announced their attentions to enter the transfer portal.

According to a report Tuesday afternoon from On3’s Pete Nakos, Alabama Crimson Tide redshirt freshman defensive back Jahlil Hurley plans to enter transfer portal when it officially opens later this month.

Hurley, who was in his second season at Alabama, had only one tackle for the Crimson Tide so far this season across nine games, which came in the Missouri game. That was also the lone stats that Hurley has accumulated during his Alabama career so far.

A former four-star prospect, Hurley originally came to Alabama as a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2023 recruiting class out of in-state Florence High School. There, Hurley ranked as the nation’s No. 50 overall player in the cycle according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 5 overall cornerback nationally.

Hurley is now the third Alabama player to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal so far this season, joining Jehiem Oatis and Keanu Koht.

Jimari Butler to enter transfer portal

Another Nebraska defender has entered the transfer portal

On Monday, the parade of players into the transfer portal included Cornhuskers junior defensive lineman Jimari Butler. The Mobile, Alabama native joins Huskers defenders Mikai Gbayor, Stefon Thompson, and Vincent Jackson as Blackshirts to hit the portal.

Butler finished his fifth regular season with the program this fall after arriving in Lincoln prior to the 2020 COVID season.

After playing in just two games in 2021 as a redshirt freshman, Butler became a key part of the Husker’s defense starting in 2022. He would play in 34 games over the course of the 2022-2024 seasons. In his 37 career games played, Butler totaled 65 tackles, including 17 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.

Butler was a consensus three-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle. After originally being committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, Butler committed to Nebraska during the early signing period.

Washington is gearing up to spend heavily in the transfer portal

Jedd Fisch appears to be prepared to invest heavily in the transfer portal.

After finishing the regular season at 6-6, Jedd Fisch knows that he needs to make major upgrades to his roster in order for the Washington Huskies to compete in the Big Ten in 2025. He has a talented young quarterback in Demond Williams Jr. but knows he needs to invest around the rising sophomore moving forward.

Throughout his first year in Seattle, the head coach has repeatedly stated that the Huskies need to get bigger, faster, and stronger along both the offensive and defensive lines, but in the new world of college football with NIL and the transfer portal, it takes a premium price to reel in productive trench players.

According to Colin Cowherd and John Middlekauff on an episode of the Colin Cowherd Podcast, the Huskies are willing to pony up the funds necessary to pull in top-end talent.

“At Washington, Jedd Fisch can recruit and he’s going to get that puppy to nine wins fast,” Cowherd said.

“I’ve heard they didn’t use much NIL money [for the 2024 season] because they wanted to take a deep breath,” Middlekauff added. “They’re going to be blowing it this year, so they will be aggressive.”

As players begin to announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal before it officially opens on December 9, the Huskies should be expected to be competitive in the recruitment of all the top names, especially in the trenches.

DL Gage Keys enters transfer portal after one season in Auburn

Keys, who transferred to Auburn from Kansas last cycle, is searching for his fourth collegiate home.

This week is important in terms of shaping the 2025 roster for the Auburn Tigers. In addition to the early signing period, the transfer portal is beginning to field names before its opening day of Dec. 9.

Three players from Auburn’s 2024 roster: QB [autotag]Holden Geriner[/autotag], TE [autotag]Micah Riley[/autotag], and OL [autotag]EJ Harris[/autotag] have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal when it opens next week, and a defensive lineman is set to join them.

[autotag]Gage Keys[/autotag], a junior defensive lineman from Hilliard, Ohio, announced Monday that he will enter the transfer portal after spending one season with the program. Keys will be searching for his fourth home, as he made stops at Minnesota and Kansas before joining Auburn’s roster last cycle.

Keys transferred to Auburn in hopes of cracking the rotation on the Tigers’ defensive line. However, he managed to play in just two games, totaling 18 snaps in Auburn’s wins over Alabama A&M and New Mexico. He failed to record a tackle during his time on the Plains but registered a quarterback pressure in Auburn’s season-opener vs. Alabama A&M according to Pro Football Focus data.

Keys is the fourth Tiger to declare his intention to enter the transfer portal Several others could follow him once the early signing period begins Wednesday and concludes Friday. Check Auburn Wire for updates as transfer portal news continues to pour in.

Why LSU should target former NC State receiver in transfer portal

Names are already flooding the transfer portal. Should LSU target a former NC State receiver?

Transfer portal season is about to kick into high gear. With LSU football out of the playoff discussion, the Tigers can turn their attention to building for 2025.

LSU wasn’t aggressive in the portal last year, but Tigers’ head coach Brian Kelly told fans to expect a different approach this year. LSU is going to be active in the portal.

The portal officially opens next week, but a handful of players already announced their intention to transfer.

That list includes NC State wide receiver Kevin Concepcion.

Concepcion broke out as a true freshman in 2023 with the Wolfpack. His 845 yards and 10 touchdowns were some of the best marks in the country among underclassmen receivers.

He returned with high hopes in 2024. but the entire NC State offense struggled, including Concepcion.

Concepcion caught 53 passes for 460 yards in 2024. His yards per catch was down an entire three yards and his catch rate was down 8%.

But NC State saw a lack of production across the board and the talent is still evident.

LSU is losing receiver [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] but may return [autotag]CJ Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Aaron Anderson.[/autotag] The Tigers could use a true X receiver and Concepcion fits that mold.

I’d expect LSU to target a receiver if the fit makes sense and it does here.

Alabama reportedly among list of teams for elite transfer wide receiver

Alabama reportedly a team to watch for elite transfer portal wide receiver.

While the transfer portal has yet to officially open, there are still many names across college football who have already in fact announced their intentions to enter when the window opens.

Among that group are numerous players who will certainly be sought-after in the portal as well, one of which is NC State wide receiver Kevin Concepcion.

Having recently declared for the portal as well, Concepcion also reportedly has a list of teams that he is now expected to look at according to On3’s Pete Nakos, one of which is the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Alongside the Crimson Tide, Nakos also mentions the Auburn Tigers, Colorado Buffaloes, Kansas State Wildcats, and Penn State Nittany Lions among the teams the wide receiver is expected to look at.

A transfer from NC State, Concepcion has been one of the ACC’s top wide receivers across the last two seasons where he has hauled in a combined 124 receptions for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns. Concepcion has also rushed for 356 yards and two touchdowns on 60 attempts during that span, while also seeing time on special teams.

This season, Concepcion hauled in a combined 53 receptions for a NC State team that went 6-6 during the regular season, which translated to 460 yards and six touchdowns. Concepcion also rushed for 36 yards and two scores on 19 attempts, as well as returned five punts for 45 yards.

At the moment, Concepcion ranks as the No. 2 overall player available in the transfer portal according to 247Sports, trailing only Alabama defensive lineman Jehiem Oatis.

As the portal officially opens in the coming week, keep an eye on the NC State standout as a potential Alabama target.
