Maryland basketball fans frustrated with Michigan State successfully recruiting in DMV

Maryland basketball fans are getting frustrated by Tom Izzo’s recent recruiting successes on their home turf

Michigan State basketball landed a big commitment on Thursday night from 4-star small forward Jordan Scott. They are rumored to be closing in on a commitment from 4-star power forward Cam Ward. Both players are from the DMV area and both players were also offered and a big priority for Maryland.

This would be a big victory by Tom Izzo and Co. if he’s able to grab two top prospects from his Big Ten opponent’s noses, and Maryland fans are starting to get frustrated.

Tom Izzo joins Detroit Pistons vs. Phoenix Suns TV broadcast, talks Devin Booker’s recruitment

Tom Izzo joined the Pistons vs. Suns TV broadcast and talked about his recruitment of Devin Booker

The Phoenix Suns are in East Lansing tonight to play the Detroit Pistons in a preseason exhibition, which means Grand Rapids local and NBA superstar Devin Booker is back in his home state. Of course, Tom Izzo was also in the building, and he joined the TV broadcast to talk about the game, and specifically, the recruitment of Devin Booker.

Booker, who was wearing Michigan State gear in warm-ups, has recently confirmed that he almost committed to the Spartans before choosing Kentucky at the last minute, and Tom Izzo talked about that on the broadcast. He said that Booker also came and watched practice, talked to the team, gave them free shoes, and he also called Booker ‘a great kid.’

Tom Izzo tells media he has no plans of retiring anytime soon

Michigan State basketball’s legendary coach Tom Izzo is apparently far from the point of hanging it up

Michigan State basketball’s legendary coach Tom Izzo is apparently far from the point of hanging it up.

Izzo met with the media on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming season and trip to Northern Michigan this weekend for an exhibition game at his alma mater. As part of Tuesday’s press conference, Izzo stated he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

Below is the exact quote from Izzo — courtesy of the Detroit Free Press’ Chris Solari:

Izzo has been at Michigan State since 1983 when he joined the program as an assistant coach. He became the Spartans head coach in 1995 and will enter his 30th season as Michigan State’s head coach this season.

There has been no indication that Izzo plans to retire, but it’s still refreshing for fans to know that’s not something he’s considering at this time.

Michigan State basketball head coach Tom Izzo discusses when it will be time to retire

Tom Izzo gave another update on what would lead him eventually retire

It feels like every few months for years now, the question has come up: When will Michigan State basketball head coach Tom Izzo retire?

Izzo was asked that question again this week by Bleacher Report’s Seth Davis, and he gave an interesting, but predictable answer.

Izzo, who also revealed that he underwent hip surgery this year, said that it won’t be age or illness that drives him to leave the sport, but it would be the state of college sports itself that eventually will make him retire, likely alluding to the state of NIL and the transfer portal.
