Michigan State basketball keeps winning, but, despite the winning streak, they are still showing enough flaws that I’m surprised Izzo still has hair left. That was the story again on Wednesday night when the Spartans took down Nebraska at home despite coughing up 19 turnovers on the night.

After the game, Tom Izzo spoke to the media. You can find his best comments below, recorded on Twitter by Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press.

Michigan State jumps into the top ten for the first time this season in latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

After starting the season unranked, Michigan State basketball has now officially jumped into the top ten in the latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports. The Spartans now sit at No. 10, up from No. 12.

Of course, MSU hasn’t played since Dec. 11’s win over Penn State, so this jump in the rankings was more about the play of two teams, primarily: Alabama and Villanova. Those two teams have both seen precipitous drops in the polls following some ugly losses.

Tom Izzo knows his team had a down year last year and has started to lose some of the shine he had fought to earn. This was never more evident than when the preseason AP poll came out and the Spartans were no where to be found in the top-25.

That makes this season an important one for a Michigan State basketball program looking to regain some of the respect they had earned.

Michigan State basketball guard Davis Smith put on scholarship

Michigan State basketball guard Davis Smith put on scholarship

No matter what, it’s always cool to see a walk-on player earn a scholarship. Some fans might get frustrated by that at times, hoping that scholarship could be used on a talented recruit or transfer, you have to be happy for someone like Davis Smith, a former walk-on with Michigan State basketball who is now officially on scholarship with the Spartans.

Tom Izzo delivered the news in his preseason press conference on Wednesday. He also made sure to note that Smith didn’t get handed the scholarship because his dad is Spartan legend Steve Smith:
