Titans players held workout against NFL protocol leading up to COVID outbreak

There are multiple reports the Tennessee Titans got together for an illegal practice last week due to COVID-19 protocols.

The NFL has been stern about its COVID-19 protocols. Now, we may get to see how firm the league is going to be if a team violated them. According to a report, Tennessee Titans players got together for a practice last week when they were supposed to be only working remotely because of a coronavirus outbreak within the organization. At this time, a total of 22 Titans players and staff members have tested positive for COVID, by far the most of any NFL team. Two more players tested positive this week, putting the team’s Sunday game against the Bills in serious jeopardy.

Per PaulKuharsky.com:

A group of Titans worked out at Montgomery Bell Academy on Sept. 30 despite an NFL directive not to hold such get-togethers while team headquarters was closed because of a COVID-19 outbreak, according to sources who saw players there.

A league source said that once the Titans building was closed down on Sept. 29, the franchise was told there were to be “no in-person meetings, workouts or activities at the facility or elsewhere.”

Students at the private school saw a large group of adult football players they identified as Titans working out on the school’s field during classes in the middle of the day. Another source said he saw Ryan Tannehill there.

The league has threatened teams with loss of draft picks or the possible forfeiture of games if they are found in violation of the COVID-19 rules.

Players reacted:

A.J. Brown tweeted and then deleted:

A jury couldn’t convict to say that is us in that photo. I plead the fifth . Y’all stay safe out here https://t.co/KFp5jgE3N8

NFL tells Pittsburgh Steelers to proceed with game prep

The Steelers have been told to proceed with game prep for Sunday’s game with Tennessee.

The Tennessee Titans have been impacted by a COVID-19 outbreak. After the news went public, the Titans and their opponent in Week 3, the Minnesota Vikings shut down in-building operations.

The league, however, has told the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are scheduled to play the Titans in Tennessee in Week 4, to continue with their preparations.

The first major hurdle toward a clean NFL season amid the COVID-19 pandemic surfaced.

According to reports, three Tennessee Titans plays have tested positive for the coronavirus. Additionally, there are five personnel positives.

The Titans are suspending in-person club activities as are the Minnesota Vikings, who played host to Tennessee on Sunday.

The NFL issued a statement saying both the Titans and VIkings are working with the league and the NFLPA and medical officials “to evaluate close contacts, perform additional testing and monitor developments … with health and safety as our primary consideration.”

The Titans are scheduled to play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a battle of unbeatens in Week 4. The Vikings are scheduled to play at Houston.

The Vikings released their statement on the situation:

Per ESPN:

The Titans were without outside linebackers coach and defensive playcaller Shane Bowen for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings due to the COVID-19 protocol. Bowen was placed in protocol after getting test results back Saturday before the team left for Minnesota.

The team was already without offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson, who was placed into the COVID-19 protocol earlier this month. Coach Mike Vrabel had said he hoped Wilson could return to the practice field this week.
