Several former Alabama players attended big-time AL high school football game on Friday

Several former Alabama players returned to their hometown to watch a big-time high school matchup between Daphne and Saraland.

On Friday, several former Alabama players: Wallace Gilberry, Ryan Anderson, and T.J. Yeldon made their way to the Mobile area to watch the Daphne Trojans take on the Saraland Spartans. Simone Eli of WKRG reported on the Crimson Tide stars’ presence. The Spartans wound up winning the game by a score of 43-23.

Both Yeldon and Anderson played for Daphne High School. On the other hand, Gilberry played for Baldwin County High School in Bay Minette, Alabama. All three are well-known for their play at both the high school and college levels.

Gilberry played for the Crimson Tide from 2004 through 2007. He recorded 188 tackles and 21.5 sacks in his time in Tuscaloosa. He was named to the All-SEC Coaches’ First-Team in 2007. He went to the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Gilberry would then spend nine seasons in the NFL playing for five teams: Bengals, Lions, Buccaneers, Chiefs, and Giants.

Anderson was a dominant outside linebacker for the Crimson Tide from 2013-2016. The last two seasons that Anderson spent at Alabama were perhaps his best. He played in 31 games for the Crimson Tide and recorded 98 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks. After his senior season concluded, he was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. He spent four seasons with the team before spending this past season with the New York Giants. Anderson is currently a free agent.

Many Alabama fans will remember Yeldon for his late-game touchdown in 2012 that helped Alabama defeat the LSU Tigers. He was known for that particular play but was also a very good running back, to say the least. He played for Alabama from 2012-2014. He rushed for over 3,000 yards in that time while having 37 rushing touchdowns. Yeldon was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft.

He went on to spend four seasons with the Jaguars before spending two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. Yeldon hasn’t played since 2020. He is also a free agent.

It is always interesting to see former Alabama players returning to their former high schools and communities.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama football players as well as other former Alabama football players in the NFL.

CFB analyst explains in detail why Alabama has the best LB room in the nation

Alabama Football has the two best linebackers in the country

Alabama Football has produced a plethora of superstars under [autotag]Coach Saban[/autotag] in the past decade. From a receiver room that featured [autotag]Jerry Jeudy[/autotag] [autotag]Henry Ruggs[/autotag] [autotag]DeVonta Smith[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylen Waddle[/autotag] to a running back room that had [autotag]Derrick Henry[/autotag] [autotag]Alvin Kamara[/autotag] [autotag]T.J. Yeldon[/autotag] and [autotag]Kenyan Drake[/autotag], it is safe to say that Saban is used to working with loaded position groups.

However, the 2022 Tide linebackers may be the best unit that Tuscaloosa, and college football for that matter, has ever seen.

247 Sports’ CFB analyst, Josh Pate, discussed the position group today as he said, “I think Alabama has the two best linebacker’s in college football in [autotag]Will Anderson[/autotag] and [autotag]Dallas Turner[/autotag].” The duo amazingly accounted for 20 sacks in 2021 as both were true underclassmen.

Behind the two superstars, is former five-star [autotag]Chris Braswell[/autotag] who would be a premier pass rusher at any other school, says Pate. The Tide also return their leading tackler from the 2021 campaign in [autotag]Henry To’oTo’o[/autotag] and he is joined by veteran [autotag]Jaylen Moody[/autotag]. Having these four on the field at the same time will be a headache for every single opponent this year.

In the waiting, are highly rated recruits such as [autotag]Deontae Lawson[/autotag] [autotag]Kendrick Blackshire[/autotag] and others. However, the real prized possession is IMG Academy’s [autotag]Jihaad Campbell[/autotag] who will likely fill Anderson’s role in 2023.

From starters to what’s coming down the pipeline, we will look back in a few years and certainly discuss the surreal amount of talent in this position group.

Former Giants, Bears CB Prince Amukamara among Saints free agent visits

The New Orleans Saints hosted several free agents, including CB Prince Amukamara, RB T.J. Yeldon, OL J.R. Sweezy, and RB Devonta Freeman.

Multiple free agent tryouts were reported by the New Orleans Saints on Saturday’s update to the daily NFL transactions wire, and some of them may have a lot to offer. You just need to look past initial positions of need and consider the wider scope of the roster as it currently stands. Let’s dig in:

Panthers invite a running back and a kicker for minicamp tryouts

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix isn’t the only free agent getting a tryout at Panthers minicamp this week.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix isn’t the only free agent getting a tryout at Panthers minicamp this week. According to a report by Joe Person at the Athletic, the team has also invited kicker Zane Gonzalez and running back T.J. Yeldon for tryouts.

Gonzalez has 51 games of experience in the NFL between the Cardinals and the Browns. He has successfully converted 78% of his field goal attempts and is 8/13 from 50 yards or more. To earn a place on the 90-man roster, he’ll have to beat out Joey Slye.

Meanwhile, Yeldon will be in the mix for a spot behind Christian McCaffrey. After four years with the Jaguars and two more with the Bills, he’s posted 2,005 rushing yards and six touchdowns, while averaging just 4.1 yards per carry in his career. Yeldon has been somewhat productive as a pass-catcher though, totaling 1,448 yards and seven touchdowns on 185 receptions. Expect him to compete for a third-down role.

Jets vs. Bills inactives: Jamison Crowder out, Becton and Darnold return against Buffalo

The Jets will be without their No. 1 wide receiver against the Bills on Sunday afternoon, as Jamison Crowder is inactive with a groin injury.

The Jets will be without their No. 1 wide receiver against the Bills on Sunday afternoon, as Jamison Crowder is inactive with a groin injury.

Crowder tweaked his groin in practice during the week and was downgraded to doubtful on Saturday despite practicing on a limited basis on Friday. Crowder caught seven passes for 115 yards and one touchdown against Buffalo in Week 1, so it will be on the likes of Breshad Perriman and Denzel Mims, who is making his NFL debut after being activated from injured reserve, to make up for that lost production.

The Jets are also without Sam Ficken, who sustained a groin injury of his own during the week. Sergio Castillo will make his NFL debut and kick in place of Ficken. Alex Lewis is inactive with an injury, while Cameron Clark remains out of action despite being activated from injured reserve on Saturday. Jordan Willis has been traded to the 49ers, but is inactive, as the deal is not yet official, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

On a positive note, Crowder being sidelined coincides with Sam Darnold and Mekhi Becton’s return to the starting lineup. Becton missed New York’s last two games with a shoulder injury and its offensive line struggled mightily over that span, allowing 13 quarterback hurries, 10 quarterback hits and five sacks. The Louisville product will assume his starting spot at left tackle and is tasked with slowing down Mario Addison and Jerry Hughes as he did in Week 1. The Jets’ offense sputtered with Darnold on the sideline, as Joe Flacco underwhelmed and posted only 10 points in two starts under center.

As for the Bills, they will be without starting wide receiver John Brown and running back T.J. Yeldon, who took on an increased role in Buffalo’s ground game the last two weeks.

Bills Wire’s Week 5 Player of the Game: RB T.J. Yeldon

As the Bills lost their first game of the 2020 season, there was a challenge in finding a Bills Wire Player of the Week.

As the Bills lost their first game of the 2020 season, there was a challenge in finding a Bills Wire Player of the Week. No one on the Bills played particularly… well… in a 42-16 loss.

However, the player that showed the most spark throughout the evening was running back TJ Yeldon. The unlikely choice for a Player of the Week nod led the team in rushing yards, with 52, and caught a 22-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.

Buffalo hopes to rebound next Monday against the Kansas City Chiefs and get back on track after this bump in the road after a wishy-washy game.

Watch: Josh Allen delivers rocket to T.J. Yeldon for Bills’ TD

Josh Allen delivered a strike to T.J. Yeldon in the back of the end zone.

Josh Allen had plenty of time to deliver the dime in the fourth quarter. The Bills’ QB threw a strike to T.J. Yeldon in the back of the end zone to bring Buffalo within 28-16.

The two-point conversion failed and the Bills’ unbeaten season to date appeared in jeopardy.

T.J. Yeldon’s roster spot with Bills could be in jeopardy

Former Alabama RB TJ Yeldon made the 53-man roster for the Buffalo Bills, but that could be in jeopardy if they decide to add Lamar Miller.

Former Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon has not had the easiest time in the NFL. After being a star at Alabama, and being selected No. 36 overall in 2015 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, he has been forced into the role of ‘next man up.’ Now, there is a risk Yeldon could enter the 2020 season without a team.

The former Crimson Tide running back made the 53-man roster for the Buffalo Bills, and currently sits as the third-string running back in a positional group of four on the recently released depth chart.

He is listed behind the starter, Devin Singletary, entering his sophomore season with the team after a strong collegiate career under Lane Kiffin at FAU, and 2020 third-round selection Zack Moss.

The only running back below Yeldon is veteran Taiwan Jones.

While these are the current depth chart standings, changes could be made due to cuts and new additions to the team, like a late signing before the season gets under way.

ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that veteran running back Lamar Miller, who played at the University of Miami and has bounced around three different teams during his seven-year career, will be visiting and working out with the Buffalo Bills.

The report was confirmed by the Bills’ general manager, who claims the team has invited Miller to work out, but has not yet met with him.

“We have not visited with Lamar, but he is coming to town at some point. We’ll get him in here, we’ll talk to him, and if there’s a fit, we’ll see where it goes,” Beane said. “Long way to go before we know if we’ll add him to our roster.”

Miller, who missed all of 2019 with a torn ACL, is looking for a chance to revitalize his career. A veteran with plenty of experience as the lead back could be beneficial to the development of Singletary’s young career.

If the Bills like what they see, they could bring him on board, but would likely have to let go of a running back on the roster.

When looking at the contracts, Jones is owed almost $400,000 more than Yeldon in 2020. Both contracts expire at the end of this season.

Production wise, both backs haven’t seen the field much. however, Yeldon has seen more carries in recent years, but in a role that doesn’t rely on him too heavily.

At the end of the day, it would come down to who they feel would bring the most amount of value to the team on, and off the field.

Yeldon hasn’t been given too many opportunities with Buffalo in his one season with the franchise. In 2019, the 26-year old saw 17 carries and 13 receptions for a total of 187 yards from scrimmage and zero total touchdowns.

As of right now, Yeldon holds a spot on the Buffalo Bills roster, but that could all change with the work out of Lamar Miller and the way the coaching staff views the running back room.

Roll Tide Wire will keep you updated on Yeldon as he looks to begin season No. 6 in the NFL.
