Gabriel Osenda is intrigued by last week’s Rutgers football offer

Gabriel Osenda updates his recruitment, talks Rutgers football offer.

On Friday, Rutgers football offered Gabriel Osenda. The offensive lineman from Florida counts Rutgers as his second Power Five offer.

He is a 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle prospect from Clearwater International Academy (Clearwater, Florida). Rutgers joins an offer list that also includes Cal and Nevada.

Last season, Osenda was impressive for a Clearwater team that was 5-5.

Because he is a 2026 prospect, Rutgers was unable to directly communicate the offer to him. Osenda’s coach at Clearwater told him about the Big Ten program offering on Friday

He passed on to Osenda that Rutgers had offered and that it is a “really good academic school.”

Over the weekend, Osenda broke down what he has learned about Rutgers since the Friday offer.

“I’ve done some research on the school,” Osenda told Rutgers Wire.

“I’ve seen it’s on the Raritan River which is pretty cool and seen videos of the campus which looks beautiful.”

Osenda is familiar with the program a bit, having seen some of their games this past season. Rutgers, while playing the second-toughest schedule in college football, finished their season 7-6 (3-6 Big Ten).

[lawrence-related id=33786]

In the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl, they beat Miami in a game where the offensive line was a very effective unit.

“I’ve watched their games – they like to run the ball and I like that the trenches get down and get aggressive,” Osenda said.

“Playing in one of the best conferences in college football – (the offer) it’s a huge accomplishment for me.”

And while Osenda is just starting to learn about Rutgers, he does have some familiarity as well with [autotag]Pat Flaherty[/autotag].

[lawrence-related id=34993,34968]

Now in his second season at Rutgers, Flaherty transformed the Rutgers line in 2023. He inherited a unit that was the worst in the Big Ten (and perhaps in the Power Five) and diligently coached up the group to be a solid group that held their own.

Flaherty has extensive experience as an NFL offensive line coach, with two Super Bowl rings as part of his two decades in the league.

“His resume speaks for itself coaching six different NFL teams and than four Power 5 college teams means he knows how to coach at all different levels,” Osenda said.

“It’s definitely a given that he will develop the players under him.”

Osenda is hoping to visit some schools local to Florida in the next couple of months as he continues to ramp up his recruitment.

[lawrence-related id=34957,34928]

“Not really eyeing any (visits) since I’m still young,” Osenda said.

“So just building relationships now but I’ve gone on visits to University Of Florida, UCF, and Florida State”

Rutgers basketball: Lathan Sommerville is dominant (again) for Richwoods

Lathan Sommerville is having a strong senior season before heading to Rutgers.

It was a strong performance this weekend from Lathan Sommerville as the Rutgers basketball commit (and signee) put together another sparkling performance.

Somerville was dominant as Richwoods (Peoria, Illinois) beat a very solid O’Fallon (O’Fallon, Illinois) 60-46.

The Rutgers basketball center, who signed with the program in December, had 24 points and 12 rebounds to key the win for Richlands. With the win, Richlands is now 20-4 on the season.

Somerville is a big-time get for Rutgers basketball. Ranked a four-star in the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 101 recruit in the nation according to Rivals. ESPN ranks him as the No. 84 recruit in the nation.

When he picked Rutgers, Sommerville did so from a final seven that included Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Bradley, Xavier, Missouri and Virginia Tech. He also had offers from Bradley, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Xavier.

[lawrence-related id=34968,34957]

At 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds, Somerville is the big man of the Rutgers recruiting class. He is a strong rebounder who controls the paint well and can alter shots. Offensively, he is light on his feet and moves well around the basket in addition to having some nice range to his game.

Rutgers sends out a pair of offers over this past weekend

Rutgers football sends out two new offers on Friday.

Rutgers football continued to send out offers, with a pair of new recruits being officially extended over the weekend.

On Friday, Rutgers offered a pair of offensive linemen from Florida. Both recruits are in the 2026 class:

Rutgers has shown some good strength in Florida in recent years since the return of head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag]. During his first rebuild of Rutgers, Schiano leaned on his Florida connections heavily to jumpstart the talent pool at Rutgers.

[lawrence-related id=34968,34957]

And the Rutgers name has a bit of some cache in Florida right now. Six weeks ago, Rutgers defeated Miami 31-24 in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl.

It was the first time in program history that Rutgers football has ever beaten Miami.

Film Review: 2025 recruit Demetrius Campbell received an offer from Rutgers football

Film Review: 2025 prospect Demetrius Campbell received an offer from Rutgers football on Thursday.

2025 prospect Demetrius Campbell received an offer from Rutgers football on Thursday.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive lineman from Orlando Christian Prep High School in Flordia has also been offered by Boston College, Iowa State, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, and Rutgers among others.

Last season as a junior, Campbell guided the Orlando Christian Prep Warriors to a 10-2 record and the No. 1 ranking in Flordia’s 1M District 2 standings.

Film Review

Campbell is a physical left tackle who is strong off the line of scrimmage. He attacks the opposing defense well with excellent leverage and hand placement.

[lawrence-related id=34889]

The 2025 prospect is familiar with a power running scheme, providing aggressive down blocks while moving opposing defenders. He plays whistle to whistle, pounding defenders into the ground. Off double teams, Campbell moves well on his path to the next level. Also, Campbell kicks steps well when pass blocking, slowing down any speed rushers.

[lawrence-related id=34908,34905]

Campbell’s footwork is the area to focus on for this 2025 prospect. He has slow feet when changing directions, making pass protection difficult on the Power Five level. Also, Rutgers Offensive Coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca runs a zone rushing scheme, making technique important when run blocking. Campbell should work on his zone steps and continue to build his lateral quickness as he develops into a Power Five player.

Bergen Catholic’s Anthony Morales on where Rutgers football stands after last week’s PWO offer

Anthony Morales talks recent Rutgers football offer.

Anthony Morales was offered by Rutgers football late last week, an offer that one of New Jersey’s top un-committed players said is very intriguing.

Morales is a 6-foot-2, 240-pound defensive end at Bergen Catholic (Oradell, New Jersey). This past fall, he had a career-high in total tackles (41), tackles for a loss (16.5) and sacks (6.5)..In addition, Morales also had an interception and two fumble recoveries.

He currently holds offers from Marist and Wagner.

The offer on Thursday from Rutgers was a solid get for Morales, who has the ability to make an impact at the FBS level.

“I’m beyond blessed to have received the Preferred Walk On from coach Schiano,” Morales told RutgersWire.

“It means a lot to me and my family. I thank God, my family, and coaches for always being there for me and pushing me to be the best version of myself on and off the field.”

As part of the recruiting process, Morales is being guided by Latish Kinsler, a mentor and advisor for many recruits. Kinsler, a former NFL player, has assisted many of New Jersey’s top players through[lawrence-related id=34928,34902] the recruiting process, including [autotag]Kaj Sanders[/autotag], a four-star defensive back currently enrolled at Rutgers.

Kinsler has a son, Jordan Kinsler, who is a running back at Rutgers.

As for the offer from Rutgers, Morales said that the Scarlet Knights have been doing well in his recruitment.

“I was interested in Rutgers before I got the Preferred Walk On (offer),” Morales said.

“After meeting the coaches and seeing what the culture is like, Rutgers is definitely a top choice right now.”

Toms River North standout Justin Kaye commits to Stony Brook

New Jersey offensive lineman Justin Kaye makes his college commitment.

Justin Kaye committed to Stony Brook on Friday. One of the top offensive linemen in New Jersey this past fall, Kaye held a Preferred Walk On (PWO) offer from Rutgers football.

Kaye is a 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle from Toms River North (Toms River, New Jersey).

This week, Kaye announced a final 10 that included Rutgers along with Boston College, Miami, Northwestern, Penn State and several FBS programs alongside Stony Brook. He made the decision to take the scholarship offer from Stony Book.

Kaye was part of a fearsome Toms River North offensive line that also featured four-star Jaelyne Matthews, a member of the 2025 recruiting class. Matthews received his first Power Five offer from Rutgers and is currently at Tennessee this week on an unofficial visit.

“I made the choice of Stony Brook because on my official visit, they treated me like family and I fell in love with Long Island,” Kaye told RutgersWire this week.

“It’s the best fit for me because I have a great offensive line coach in coach Bache (Chris Bache) and it’s a program in a rebuild and I want to be part of that. Also a young and ambitious head coach in coach Cosh (Billy Cosh).”

He will be signing his National Letter of Intent (NLI) on February 7.

Stony Brook opens their season on Aug. 31 at Marshall. The Seawolves are very much in a rebuild, coming off an 0-10 season.

Rutgers football lands in the top five for elite New Jersey playmaker Cameron Miller

Cameron Miller has a top five that includes Rutgers football.

Cameron Miller has Rutgers football making his latest cutdown. Friday’s top five from Miller is good news for the Scarlet Knights as they pursue one of New Jersey’s top recruits.

Miller, a defensive back from Winslow Township (Atco, New Jersey), is a four-star recruit according to On3. He is a consensus top-10 player in New Jersey.

The cutdown to five schools sees Rutgers in the mix along with Kentucky, Michigan, Syracuse and Wisconsin.

He recently spoke to RutgersWire about his recruitment, including his thoughts on the Scarlet Knights.

Some significant programs such as Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Penn State did not make Miller’s cut down.

He posted his decision on social media on Friday afternoon, saying that these are the programs that he will be focused on in his recruitment moving forward.

At Winslow, Miller is coached by [autotag]Bill Belton[/autotag], a former standout running back at Penn State. Belton is a young, rising mover in the New Jersey high school coaching ranks.

[lawrence-related id=34889,34885]

Myles Nash, a former Rutgers defensive lineman, is Winslow’s defensive line coach. Winslow’s linebackers coach is Quanzell Lambert, a former Rutgers defensive lineman who was a multi-year All-Academic Big Ten selection.

Rutgers football sends out an offer to Demetrius Campbell

Rutgers football has offered class of 2025 offensive lineman Demetrius Campbell.

Class of 2025 offensive lineman Demetrius Campbell was offered by Rutgers football on Thursday. The offer from Rutgers puts the Big Ten program into a growingly crowded recruitment.

An offensive tackle from Orlando Christian Prep (Orlando, Florida), Campbell has an offer list that includes Boston College, Iowa State, Louisville, Maryland and Miami and now Rutgers.

He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds.

Rutgers has had success recruiting Orlando Christian before. Vilay Nakkoun Jr. was a quarterback and a defensive back with the program who was part of the Scarlet Knights’ 2023 recruiting class.

He held several offers including from South Florida. Nakkoun took a redshirt last season.

Campbell posted about the Rutgers offer on Thursday via his social media channel:

The past week has been a busy one for Campbell, with the offer from Rutgers his latest in a flurry of schools entering the picture. In the past week alone, Maryland, Miami, Boston College and Louisville all offered Campbell.

[lawrence-related id=34889,34885,34879]

Rutgers is coming off a 7-6 (3-6 Big Ten) season where they won the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl in a 31-24 game against Miami.

The Rutgers chopper (and Greg Schiano) check in with one of New Jersey’s best on Thursday

Sah’Nye Degraffenreidt got a chopper visit from Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano this week.

Sah’Nye Degraffenreidt got a visit from Rutgers football head coach Greg Schiano on Thursday. And Schiano certainly made an impression, with the head coach using a helicopter to land at the prospect’s high school.

One of the top players in New Jersey in the class of 2025, Degraffenreidt (nicknamed ‘Ice Cup’) is a hot name on the recruiting trail.

A 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver at Atlantic City High School (Atlantic City, New Jersey), Degraffenreidt is a three-star wide receiver but his offer list is that of an elite prospect.

Rivals ranks him as the No. 17 player in New Jersey and the No. 98 wide receiver in the nation. However, it is clear that Degraffenreidt has big play potential every time he touches the ball.

An explosive player,  Degraffenreidt has speed and agility that make him explosive with the ball in his hands in the open field.

[lawrence-related id=34885]

He holds offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Penn State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.

[lawrence-related id=34831,34820]

Use of the helicopter by Schiano and staff comes from a private fund and personal donations. No public funds (athletic department or Rutgers University funds) are used to cover the expense of the helicopter.
