Report: Robert Kraft close to avoiding trial in prostitution case

According to a report, it appears as if the prostitution case against Patriots owner Robert Kraft will be dropped.

Robert Kraft may have to live with the embarrassment of his February 2019 arrest in Florida. However, the New England Patriots’ owner appears on his way to escaping prosecution in the prostitution case.

An appellate court Wednesday upheld a lower court decision to toss video evidence that allegedly captured him paying for sex inside a Jupiter, Fla. spa last year,,

Legal experts told the Boston Globe this should lead to charges being dropped against Kraft.

He was charged based largely on secret video recordings a judge had authorized under a “sneak-and-peek” warrant.

The ruling from Florida’s Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal “is a fatal blow to the State’s case,” said Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor who also served as enforcement director of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, via e-mail. “With no video evidence, there is no case, and absent an appeal to the Florida Supreme Court, I expect the prosecution to dismiss the charges soon.”

The Globe spoke to multiple legal eagles.

Defense lawyer, Mark J. Geragos, whose high-profile clients have included pop stars Chris Brown and Michael Jackson, left no doubt about his opinion.

“A case that never should have been brought will now die a quick death,” Geragos said via email.

He also faulted prosecutors.

“The Trial Court made the correct ruling by tossing the so-called evidence,” Geragos said. “Frankly the arguments by the Prosecutors were rather sophomoric and the Appellate Court called out the State for the circular arguments. Every Judge who has looked at this has been outraged and so should the public.”

Birthday boy Tom Brady takes followers through career of NFL haircuts

Tampa Bay Bucs QB Tom Brady treated his followers to a career of hairstyles on his 43rd birthday.

Tom Brady had some fun at his own expense on his 43rd birthday Monday, taking a look at the hairstyles the former New England Patriots and current Tampa Bay QB has had through the years.

Let’s try the real thing through images:

Starting with the NFL Combine, a half-year before his 23rd birthday:

What version of the iPhone does Bucs’ QB Tom Brady use?

Tom Brady’s ‘outdated’ iPhone sent Twitter into a flurry.

There was an uproar on social media after Tom Brady posted a video showing allowing users to see what version of the iPhone the Bucs’ QB uses.

Why should anyone be surprised the G.O.A.T. has stuck with the iPhone 6 Plus? Obviously, he’s comfortable with the version that matches the number of Super Bowl rings he earned with the New England Patriots.

And should he add another this season with the Bucs, would anyone be shocked if Brady stepped up to an iPhone 7?

The other possibility is Brady is waiting on … an iPhone 12. Or he will receive a new phone as a gift for his 43rd birthday, which is Monday.

Antonio Brown shifts gears, posts he wants to return to NFL

A couple days after saying he was done with football, Antonio Brown apparently wants back in the NFL.

Antonio Brown can’t make up his mind. Two days after saying he was done with football, the wayward wideout posted on Instagram he is ready to get back in the game …

The commentary runs next to a video of Commissioner Roger Goodell talking about the resources available to Brown and how the league and NFLPA want to get him on the right track.

I have complied with each and every ask of your investigations throughout the past 11 months. You have had access to all of my phones, you know what the deal is in each and every situation that the media has distorted. I have been seeing the therapist you asked me to, I have worked on all aspects of my life this past year and have become a better man because of it. The fact that you refuse to provide a deadline and the reason for the fact you won’t resolve your investigations is completely unacceptable. I demand you provide me clarity on this situation immediately if you really care about my wellbeing. My legal team continues to ask and you provide no answers. How is it that the league can just drag it’s feet on any investigation it chooses on players and we just have to sit there in limbo? Need an update so I can talk to these teams properly, they’re waiting on you @nfl let’s get this thing moving! We’ve got history to make!! #Himmothy

This comes two days after this series of tweets:

The strange saga that has seen Brown go through the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders, and New England Patriots continues … sadly.

CBS Sports’ Leslie Visser: I’ve witnessed harassment in the NFL for four decades

Former Boston Globe columnist Leslie Visser wrote a strong column on harassment in her former paper.

Leslie Visser is one of the pioneers when it comes to sports journalism in print and on the broadcast side.

The CBS Sports broadcaster went back to her roots Tuesday, writing a column for the Boston Globe, her former employer, on experiences with harassment and what women have had to deal with in the field of sports journalism.

Visser told one story of interviewing then-Baltimore Colts quarterback Bert Jones:

Anyone remember Bert Jones? A legend out of LSU, he was following iconic Johnny Unitas as quarterback for the Baltimore Colts. After a game in Foxborough against the Patriots, he asked me if I’d like to come to Baltimore. He offered to send me a round-trip ticket. I went into my Gloria Steinem routine, “Absolutely Not! This is my job!” He finally cut me off with a laugh and said, “Hey, you’re not that great anyway.”

It wasn’t only the players who took an unfortunate tone with  the first woman to cover the NFL as a beat — in 1976 for the Globe:

At training camp, I ventured my first question to coach Chuck Fairbanks. He looked at me like Vulcan, the Roman god of fire. “What?” he said. I repeated my question about a linebacker. Fairbanks narrowed his eyes and said, “Why don’t you go to lunch with my daughter? You’re about the same age.”

Abominable and unacceptable.

Visser says women need three elements to succeed, knowledge, passion and stamina — but no one prepares you for humiliation.

She says times have come a long way from the days when, “The credentials I wore, with no irony, said, “No Women or Children in the Press Box.” Without a ladies room in said press box, I’d have to take the elevator down and sprint across the field like Usain Bolt to find the public restroom and try to get back before the Patriots punted.”

But there remains a long ways to go.

Watch: Bill Belichick downs Footlong while filming Subway commercial

Bill Belichick feasted on a Footlong while doing a Subway commercial in Connecticut.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick isn’t hungry just for a ninth championship ring. Looks like Mr. Eight Rings has an appetite, too, for Subway footlongs.

Check out Belichick as he chows down on a big sandwich while taking a break during a commercial shoot Wednesday in Connecticut.

Report: Patriots reach financial settlements on Antonio Brown, Aaron Hernandez

The Patriots have settled grievances with WR Antonio Brown and the late TE Aaron Hernandez

The New England Patriots have come to agreements on the financial grievances they were facing with wide receiver Antonio Brown and the late tight end, Aaron Hernandez, per a report.

Per ESPN:

The Patriots had owed receiver Brown $9 million, and as part of the settlement, he will instead receive $5 million, per sources.

… In addition to that $4 million credit on the Patriots’ cap, the club received a $2.55 million credit after settling a long-running compensation grievance with the late Hernandez, per sources.

The settlements created $6.55 million in cap space, giving the team an available $7.79 million. Prior to the settlements, the Patriots had the least amount of cap space in the league.

In the case of Hernandez, who was released in January 2013, compensation was sought for the final installment of his signing bonus ($3.25 million), his 2013 base salary ($1.32 million), his 2014 base salary ($1.14 million), and his workout bonus ($500,000). He was released in January 2013.

Hernandez committed suicide in prison in April 2017. He was serving a life sentence for murder in the first degree of Odin Lloyd, having been convicted on April 15, 2015.

Josh Gordon to have his New England Patriots, Super Bowl LIII ring auctioned

Josh Gordon has decided to part ways with his Super Bowl LIII ring, earned with the New England Patriots

Josh Gordon was on the Super Bowl LIII champion New England Patriots for 11 games, making 40 catches for 720 yards. Now, the wide receiver is going let someone else grab his championship ring as it is being put on the auction block.

Heritage Auction is pitching it as the sixth and final ring of the Tom Brady era. Its value is labeled at $100,000-plus. The ring was earned when the Patriots defeated the Rams, 13-3. Gordon was no longer with the team for the playoff run

On Dec. 20, 2018, Gordon announced that he would step away from football to focus on his mental health. The NFL later stated that Gordon faced an indefinite ban for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the NFL drug policy.

The details:

This particular example was issued to the man who caught Brady’s 500th career touchdown pass on October 4, 2018, a thirty-four-yard connection that was Gordon’s first trip to paydirt with the Pats.

… the ring’s design is effectively an upgrade of the 2016 model, adding that sixth figural Lombardi Trophy to a face utterly coated in diamonds, with blue and red stone providing color to the Patriots logo. “Word Champions” thunders in bold text at each vertical edge. Left shank identifies its recipient by name and diamond-studded jersey number, while still more diamonds frame Gilette Stadium’s signature view lighthouse and bridge. The text “6X” requires no further explanation.

The right shank provides even more diamond studs framing text reading, “Patriots, Still Here” and the logo and final score of Super Bowl LIII. The years of the previous five Super Bowl victories span the bottom of the band, which measures to a size eleven and a half (11.5) and contains Robert Kraft’s simple but effective slogan, “We Are All Patriots.” Total weight is eighty-seven grams (87 g.). Total gem carat weight is a remarkable 9.85. Crafted in ten karat (10K) gold by Josten’s.

The ring should set the winner back at least six figures. So, before you decide to bid make sure to check your deep bank account.

Watch: Russell Wilson throws deep ball to Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown found another workout partner. This time, it was Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

The road back to the NFL for Antonio Brown won’t be easy. The troublesome wideout has a lot of bad history to overcome off the gridiron. On it, he seems to have plenty of quarterbacks willing to help him practice.

The latest — Wednesday — is Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. Check out the touch on the deep throw to the former Steeler, Raider and Patriot.

Who would like to see this on Sundays 🤔 ? that was fun !!!!!!!!!! Brown posted on his Instagram account about the workout in San Diego.

Football fans would love to see it. However, Seattle Seahawks opponents certainly would not.

Seattle had another receiver who has had issues in the past, Ben Gordon, who is currently a free agent, in 2019. Imagine if he finds his way back to the Seahawks and Pete Carroll & Co. take a chance on Brown. That would give Wilson his choice of Gordon, Brown, Tyler Lockett as a Big Three.

Brown has also caught passes in workouts from Washington’s Dwayne Haskins and NFL MVP Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

Tom Brady reminds Julian Edelman no one can take his place … in his heart

Tom Brady has a clever response — per usual to Julian Edelman welcoming Cam Newton to New England.

New England Patriots wide receiver and former Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman was quick to welcome Cam Newton to the team via his Instagram account.

Of course, Edelman’s former quarterback, Tom Brady, was quick to remind the wideout who will always have his heart.
