Maine Celtics guard Tony Snell is on a mission to get back to the NBA

And it is not your typical mission, with Snell hoping to secure insurance coverage for his kids’ Autism Spectrum Disorder.

If you have ever wondered why Maine Celtics wing Tony Snell is still plugging away in Portland as he tries to get back into the NBA, it has everything to do with who he is as a person — and not in the way we tend to mean for most NBA players.

Snell, who was diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder not long ago after trying to learn what might be behind developmental delays in his own children, according to a recent article by Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer. “Of course, I want to come back and play, but I have a bigger purpose now,” said Snell. “It’s not about me anymore. It’s about my boys.”

What the veteran wing is referring to is his push to get back into the NBA in order to get coverage for his children’s diagnosis of being on the spectrum as well.

JD Davison talks his tenure with Boston, Portland on the Maine Celtics podcast

He also gets into how the Maine Celtics have been playing so far this season.

Most fans of the Boston Celtics have become followers of the team-produced podcast “The View From the Rafters,” but you would have to truly be among the most hardcore of Boston fans to know about another team-produced podcast in the greater Celtics orbit.

And that lesser-known podcast is the “Maine Celtics” podcast, which just dropped its fifth episode of the 2023-24 season. In it, hosts Brendan Glasheen and Chris Whitney sat down with two way Celtics floor general JD Davison, who breaks down what it was like in his first season with the Celtics, splitting his time between Portland and Boston.

He also gets into how the Maine Celtics have been playing so far this season, and the crew previews a tilt with the Sioux Falls Skyforce that Portland is slated to play soon.

PHOTOS: Boston vs. San Antonio – Wemby not the victor as Celtics win vs. Spurs 117-98

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in the Celtics’ 41st game of the 2023-24 NBA season vs. the Spurs.

If you squint very hard, you can see the vision for the sort of team that will one day surround San Antonio Spurs rookie wunderkind Victor Wembanyama. But it is very difficult to squint hard for 48 minutes of game time, and that, in a nutshell, is why the Spurs were blown out by the Boston Celtics 117-98 at TD Garden on Wednesday night.

The game was actually competitive early in the tilt, Boston getting separation midway through the first quarter and pulling away for good in the second. The Celtics’ perimeter defense continues to be among the most fearsome in the league as they held another opponent to atrocious 3-point shooting numbers, this time 20.6% for the Spurs. San Antonio losing the rebounding battle by 13 despite having Wemby on the court did not help their case, but San Antonio acquitted themselves by walking a 30-point lead down to a “mild” blowout in the process.

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments captured in images in the Celtics’ 41st game of the 2023-24 NBA season vs. the Spurs.

Cultivating championships in the city of Boston

When it comes to calling a city “title town,” there may be no better metropole than the city of Boston, Massachusetts to lay such a claim.

When it comes to calling a city “title town,” there may be no better metropole than the city of Boston, Massachusetts to lay such a claim. For decades, the city saw the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and Boston Celtics hang banners in their respective leagues.

And while there have been plenty of long pauses for respective clubs in their pertinent sports, Boston as a whole has been among the winningest metropolises in North American sports history. In order to honor that tradition in a moment of transition for New England sports with no head coach having more than three seasons’ experience, the hosts of the WEEI “Gresh and Fauria” show looked to Boston’s past for clues about its future.

To hear what they had to say about the future of championships in the city in their estimation, check out the video embedded below!

Celtics Lab 235: On the Sun at the Garden, Boston’s season so far and more with Brionna Jones

This pod, we linked up with the Connecticut Suns’ Brionna Jones to talk her team playing at the Garden, the rise of the Jays, and more.

There’s a lot of basketball to be a fan of in New England. The Boston Celtics stand as the premier hoopers in the region, but greatness can also be found among the UConn Huskies women’s and men’s programs and the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun in recent years. That history will become even more entangled as the Sun are set to play at TD Garden this summer for the first time ever as the Boston landmark arena hosts its first-ever WNBA tilt.

On the night the news broke, the Celtics played at the Garden, and Sun center Brionna Jones and All-NBA Boston forward Jaylen Brown swapped jerseys. To hear the story behind that exchange, the first-ever WNBA game at the Garden, what she thinks of the rise of the Jays, and Jones’ thoughts on this season’s Celtics, the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with the Sun star.

We also got into the state of Boston’s All-Star vote, the latest details on the Celtics’ trade deadline plans, and more.

Celtics’ Jayson Tatum’s father Justin named Ilwarra Hawks interim head coach

Tatum originally joined the organization as a North American scout and Special Advisor to Basketball Operations.

The NBL’s Illawarra Hawks have decided to part ways with their head coach, Jacob Jackomas, effective immediately, following the team’s disappointing 2-7 start to the NBL24 season, with the team electing to name star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum‘s father Justin Tatum the ball club’s interim head coach according to a release from the league.

Hawks General Manager of Basketball Mat Campbell expressed the difficulty of the decision, acknowledging Jackomas’s hard work and wishing him success in his future coaching endeavors. “The club remains firmly committed to building a basketball program and an organization focused on sustained performance and success,” Hawks CEO Stu Taggart added.

Tatum originally joined the organization as a North American scout and Special Advisor to Basketball Operations. He also served as the associate head coach of the Global Women’s Basketball Association team St. Louis.

Should the Celtics consider signing Kenneth Faried to their open roster spot?

The Manimal is planning an NBA comeback, and will ‘work his tail off’ to do it; does Boston make sense?

From the way the Boston Celtics have been playing over the first four games of the 2023-24 NBA season, it would be hard to identify an obvious area in need of improvement with the Celtics now the owners of the best record in the East and tied for the best in the league with the Dallas Mavericks at 4-0.

But Boston has another 78 games to play to finish the regular season and at least another 16 after that (and probably a lot more) if they want to win a title. So with their big man depth still a bit thin, adding a third frontcourt player able to not only absorb minutes to keep Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford healthy and spry for the postseason but also able to fill in for them in the playoffs if one or both is unavailable seems the last weak link in the roster left for the front office to address.

There has been no shortage of speculation about how the Celtics might address such an issue, with the latest popular candidate being former Celtics center Daniel Theis, currently languishing on the bench of the Indiana Pacers after a strong showing in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Inside Boston icon Kevin Garnett’s new 3-on-3 basketball league, STR33T

Garnett’s involvement as the face of the league adds credibility to what has been a slippery slope for 3-on-3 leagues so far.

Hall of Fame Boston Celtics big man Kevin Garnett’s Big Ticket Sports, in collaboration with the ProLeague Network, is launching a new 3-on-3 basketball league called STR33T. Basketball News’ Alex Kennedy, in a recent interview with Big Ticket Sports CEO George Daniel, discussed how the idea for STR33T came together and the potential of 3-on-3 basketball as it gains popularity, especially with its inclusion in the Olympics.

STR33T will stand out from existing 3-on-3 leagues, such as Ice Cube’s Big3, due to its focus on quick games, adherence to Olympic and FIFA rules, and a lineup of dedicated street basketball players. STR33T also plans to include women’s and co-ed competitions. Garnett’s involvement as the face of the league adds credibility to what has been a slippery slope for 3-on-3 leagues so far.
