Notre Dame Baseball drops second game against Louisville

The Irish lose this game late

The Irish were in a pitchers duel for the majority of game two, with John Michael Bertrand leading the way for the Irish for the majority of the game. The Notre Dame ace pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing just one earned run, but the bullpen struggled for the second consecutive day.

The one run given up by Bertrand was the first run of the game, the Irish answering with a run of their own on a Jack Brannigan solo home-run in the top of the 8th. Like game one, the Louisville bats always seemed to answer when the Irish plated a run. The Cardinals scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth, sending Notre Dame to their first series loss of the season.

It marks the first time all season that Link Jarrett’s team has lost two games in-a-row, even though they still hold a very impressive 12-3 records. The final game of the series again Louisville will be played on Sunday at 1:00pm EST.

Notre Dame offensive tackle doesn’t just shine on the field

Making the Irish proud

When Brian Kelly left for LSU and Irish athletic director Jack Swarbrick mentioned that it wasn’t coaches that made the program, it was the players, it really stuck with me. Well, today, Notre Dame offensive tackle Blake Fisher posted a picture on Twitter that backed up Swarbrick’s comments.

The players who shine on Saturday’s have an opportunity to make a massive impact on the community, which is what Fisher has done and will continue to do. Giving back is in his nature, something that he has done since his high school days. That’s exactly what Fisher did today, heading off to a local YMCA and meeting some of the aftercare students.

Not only is Fisher a future star on the field, but he is already a star off it. This is exactly what you want to see from any Irish student-athlete.

Rivals: Star Florida running back will visit Notre Dame for Blue & Gold game

Would be a great addition to the ‘24 class

For many schools their spring game is a recruiting spring board into the fall, as many teams main focus is on the season. Notre Dame is no different as they looking to continue their hot start for the 2023 class and continue to build relationships with 2024 prospects.

Currently, the Irish have yet to get their first verbal commit in the ‘24 class but that could all change soon during the spring. The Blue and Gold game will surely bring plenty of big name recruits to South Bend and according to Rivals Adam Friedman, running back Davion Gause should be making the trip up north from Florida for the spring contest.

Already a top-100 prospect, 67th overall, by Rivals, Gause is a very intriguing option for the Irish. He’s already the size of a big time running back at five-feet-ten-inches and 209-pounds. Gause holds offers from Georgia, USC, Texas A&M and others.

Notre Dame loses to Cincinnati again in fictional ESPN matchup

This would be interesting to see

The Irish and Bearcats faced off against each other during the regular season, with Cincinnati coming out on top 24-13. The lone Notre Dame regular season loss ultimately hurt during Brian Kelly’s final season, the loss keeping the Irish out of the College Football Playoff.

It was a de facto play-in game and in ESPN’s March Madness style fictional CFP 64-team tournament, the two teams faced off against each other once again. Chris Low saw it the way it played out in real life, with the Bearcats again defeating the Irish in the semifinals of the Midwest region.

It was a bit closer this time, Cincinnati winning 24-20, with the difference being Marcus Freeman at the helm instead of Kelly as Low used 2022 rosters instead of last seasons. The Bearcats would then hypothetically go on to lose to Ohio State, who Low has winning the championship against Alabama.

It’s always fun to see how a larger style playoff would play out with college football teams, and unfortunately we are going to have to wait a bit longer for an expanded CFP. It was interesting to see how it could have turned out though.
