What Hubert Davis said after UNC Basketball’s win over Tennessee

Here is what UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis said after the win over Tennessee.

The North Carolina Tar Heels hosted No.10 Tennessee Wednesday night, and they sent fans home with biscuits, largely due to their 61 points scored in the first half.

Despite blowing out the Vols 61-39 in the first period, wrapping up the win wasn’t as easy as advertised. They did win by 8 with a final score 100-92, but concern still echoed with the team inability to keep a large lead.

Even with the blown lead, it was still another notable win that can be useful come selection Sunday. The game also showed that UNC can compete with the best of them and how unstoppable their offense can be even against one of the best defensive teams in the nation.

After the dominating win, [autotag]Hubert Davis[/autotag] met with the media to go over what went right for the UNC basketball program as they prepare for conference play on Saturday.

Let’s see what Davis had to say.

Ryleigh Heck’s shootout goals helps UNC capture 11th Field Hockey title

A Maddie Kahn save kept UNC in the NCAA Field Hockey National Championship, then a Ryleigh Heck shootout goal ended it.

If not for a desperation save by Maddie Kahn in the second overtime of Sunday’s NCAA Field Hockey National Championship game, UNC might not be standing where it is now.

Because of that sprawling save, which came on an odd-woman rush for Northwestern, the Tar Heels had a chance to win in a shootout.

That’s exactly what UNC did.

After falling behind by a goal in the overtime shootout, sophomore Ryleigh Heck completed the comeback with a goal of her own, giving the Tar Heels a 2-1 and helping them capture their 11th National Championship.

UNC took a 1-0 lead in the shootout, then missed on its next couple attempts. Northwestern took advantage of this, jumping ahead 2-1 (in the shootout) and needing just one Annabel Skubisz save, to capture its second title in three years.

Carolina tied things up on their next shot, then went into sudden-death shootout mode. Kahn came up with another clutch save, then Heck sent Chapel Hill into pandamonium with her game-winner.

UNC extended its record for most national championships, moving two ahead of Old Dominion and winning it all for the second straight year. What makes this year’s natty that much more impressive however, was that it came in Erin Matson’s first year as head coach.

Matson is arguably the greatest player in program history, plus one of the most decorated Tar Heels across all sports. She helped UNC win the ACC Championships in all five seasons as a player (2018-2022), in addition to four National Championships (2018-2020, 2022).

The fact that Carolina is already finding championship-level success, with a first-year head coach, bodes really well for the future.

But for now, the Tar Heels are going to bask in the glory of their new title.

Tar Heels play Cavaliers Friday for spot in Field Hockey title game

The UNC and UVA field hockey teams split their two matchups earlier this year. When they play Friday, it’ll be for a spot in the title game.

When it comes to consistent success in collegiate sports, there’s few teams better than the UNC field hockey squad.

The Tar Heels (16-3, 5-1) have 10 NCAA Championships, which is most all-time and one spot ahead of Old Dominion. They’ve won four out of the past five national titles, including last year, when they won all 21 games.

Carolina’s ( head coach is Erin Matson, who at 23 years old in her first season as head coach, is the youngest coach in ALL of Division-I sports. Matson is the ACC’s all-time leader in goals (137) and points (337) – a transition to coaching was natural for her.

Matson and the 2023 UNC fockey squad aren’t done yet. They play ACC rival UVA (14-6, 3-3) on Friday at 12 p.m. ET – this time in the NCAA Tourney Final Four – with home-field advantage almost sure to come at Karen Shelton Stadium.

Carolina downed 9-seed Harvard pretty comfortably on Friday, Nov. 10, defeating the Crimson by a 4-2 mark. UVA did the same on Friday, blanking 4-seed Maryland by a 4-0 score.

The Tar Heels and Cavaliers split their two matchups this season – a 3-2, regular-season Cavs win in Charlottesville on Friday, Oct. 20, then a 3-2 Heels victory in the ACC Tourney Semifinals – also in Charlottesville.

The stakes are a little higher this time, with the winner playing in Chapel Hill on Sunday for the National Championship, at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Social media reacts to the Tar Heels’ 90-68 win over Lehigh

The North Carolina Tar Heels won their second game of the season, beating Lehigh 90-68. Social media reacts to the Heel’s win.

The North Carolina men’s basketball program hosted the Lehigh Mountain Hawks for their second game of the season.

After witnessing the football team’s double-overtime win against Duke with fans leaping barricades to celebrate on the field, the Dean Smith Center’s energy was on full display. The Heels looked to continue their new-look offense against the school that lives in the Blue Devil’s nightmares from the 2012 stunning March Madness upset.

Much like game one, UNC showed the ability to run in transition and knock down shots. On the flip side, Radford’s hot shooting touch must have stayed in the away locker room, with Lehigh keeping pace against the Tar Heel’s questionable defense.

However, unlike game one, UNC was able to create distance for themselves early on, reaching a double-digit lead 13 minutes into the first half. Fans also wanted to see if the Tar Heels would fix their turnover issue, which they did, only having 10 compared to the 11 against Radford.

Unfortunately, a struggle from last year reappeared with Lehigh bouncing back in the second half to get the score close. As Lehigh made runs to hang around, fans let out their displeasure. Others took it for what it was, just Lehigh making shots.

The comeback didn’t sustain long after Lehigh cut it down to three with UNC going on a 14-2 run to go back up double digits before hitting cruise control for the rest of the game. RJ Davis and Armando Bacot led all scorers with 22 each. Bacot tacked on 20 rebounds along with his scoring output, and Ingram shined with 14 points and seven rebounds.

It is safe to say after last night’s thrilling win against Duke, followed by another impressive outing by the basketball program, that it’s a great weekend to be a Tar Heel. Let’s look at how social media reacted to UNC’s 90-68 win over Lehigh.

Erin Matson leads Tar Heels to seventh-straight ACC Field Hockey title

Erin Matson is the greatest field hockey player to come through UNC. She just led Carolina to its seventh-straight ACC title as head coach.

Michael Jordan, Mia Hamm and Andrew Miller are just a few of many great athletes to come through UNC.

MJ is widely-regarded as the greatest basketball player of all-time, Mia Hamm is considered the greatest women’s soccer player to walk this earth, while Andrew Miller is arguably the best baseball player to ever don a Tar Heel uniform.

How about 4-time national champion Erin Matson, Carolina’s head field hockey coach, who is the youngest in all of Division-I sports?

Matson won ACC titles in every season as a field hockey player (2018-2022), plus NCAA crowns in four of five years (2018-2020, 2022).

She just led the Tar Heels to their seventh-consecutive ACC title, as they downed archrival Duke, 2-0, on Friday night in Charlottesville, Va.

What Matson did as a player is nonetheless impressive. It might be the greatest collegiate career among a Tar Heel – and that’s really saying something, with all the All-Star athletes to play in Chapel Hill.

What Matson’s done as a coach is just as impressive, if not more than her playing career.

Think of all the Carolina sports you’ve watched over the years. How many coaches come in, especially at the young age Matson (23) is, and find immediate success?

UNC sits at 14-3 heading into NCAA Tournament play, as it’ll play again on Friday, Nov. 10. The Tar Heels went all of September without a loss, winning eight straight games.

Who will Matson coach against next? Find out on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 10 p.m. ET, when the NCAA Field Hockey tournament brackets are released.

Tyler Reddick to drive in Air Jordan 8 paint scheme car

23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick is set to drive in an Air Jordan 8 inspired car for the next race in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

The NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs continue on this week as the field has been cut to 8 drivers and that includes 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick.

The team, co-owned by Michael Jordan, saw Reddick advance into the round of 8 last week and now he begins his quest for the finals. And when he is out there this weekend in Las Vegas, he will do so again in an Air Jordan-inspired paint scheme.

This week, Reddick will drive in a paint scheme that pays homage to the classic Air Jordan 8 model. The multi-color paint scheme features black, purple, orange, and teal among other colors:

It also has the Air Jordan 8 emblem with a circle and the Jumpman logo splitting the purple, teal and grey. That emblem is on the Air Jordan 8 tongue and is an awesome addition.

Driving in Air Jordan-inspired paint schemes is nothing new for Reddick either as last week he drove in one that paid homage to the Air Jordan 5 “Grape” colorway.

NCAA reverses Tez Walker ruling, grants UNC wideout eligibility

After earlier denials, the NCAA granted UNC WR Tez Walker immediate eligibility for this season after new information from school.

The NCAA has reversed its controversial Tez Walker ruling, saying the North Carolina wide receiver could play effective immediately on Thursday after receiving new information from the school.

NCAA President Charlie Baker and Division I Board of directors chair Jere Morehead, in a joint statement, said they wanted to honor Walker’s right to privacy with the nature of the new information, but the statement said “It is unfortunate that UNC failed to provide this important information previously.”

Walker had previously been denied eligibility for the 2023 season twice, once in August and again in September. Tar Heels head coach Mack Brown released a statement after the second ruling, saying the committee should be ashamed of themselves for caring more about the process than about their athletes.

The committee that oversaw the decision responded days later, saying members had been receiving violent threats but defended the decision as a popular policy Brown and others voted on. The interaction did not go unmentioned in Thursday’s release.

“UNC’s behavior and decision to wage a public relations campaign is inappropriate and outside the bounds of the process UNC’s own staff supported,” Baker and Morehead wrote. “Had the UNC staff not behaved in this fashion and submitted this information weeks ago, this entire unfortunate episode could have been avoided.”

Brown released another statement in light of Walker’s new status.

“We’re so happy for Tez. Everything that’s transpired over the last few months has been with the sole purpose of helping and supporting him, and now he’s going to have a chance to live his dream,” Brown said.

Walker’s first game available for the Tar Heels will be Saturday against Syracuse.

Social Media reacts to Raising Cane’s coming to Chapel Hill

Social Media reacts to Raising Cane’s coming to Chapel Hill and the first looks inside the restaurant.

Chapel Hill is home to the best UNC-themed restaurants; now, a new one has come to town.

The highly anticipated Raising Cane’s restaurant will find its new home in Chapel Hill, and the first looks have fans mouth-watering. The restaurant was initially set to open in the spring but ran into some delays, keeping fans waiting longer.

Jeremy Strayhorn took to social media to showcase the inside of the new-look restaurant, informing locals that they would be opening their doors soon and that they were “currently hiring top talent.”

The tweet shared on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, garnered over 135K views, with fans highlighting the UNC décor. Bringing raising canes to Chapel Hill only helps add variety to the scene while introducing a popular franchise to the Tar Heel faithful.

It will likely lead to more NIL deals for student-athletes as well. There was not much criticism of this move but more excitement for what was coming. The restaurant will be located at 101 E. Franklin Street. Let us look at how social media reacted to Raising Cane’s first looks in Chapel Hill.

Tez Walker named honorary UNC Hockey captain

Tez Walker named honorary captain ahead of UNC Hockey Saturday night match-up against ECU.

The fight to let Tez Walker play continues to play out, and many are hopeful that we may see him play this season after the NCAA granted Minnesota two-time transfer Craig McDonald a waiver request.

While we await a hopeful change in the Walker verdict, the spotlight remains on the transfer wide receiver. Walker has had his name echoed throughout Kenan Stadium and “FREE TEZ” signs and chants on college football’s GameDay.

The UNC hockey program is joining the party, announcing that Walker will be an honorary captain for their Saturday night match-up against ECU.

The post garnered its highest view count in over ten days, with more than 7k views on the announcement.

It is always great to see UNC programs joining together for the bigger picture. After losing their exhibition opener, the Tar Heels are on a three-game win streak, and with Tez in the building, that could be enough of a spark to ignite their fourth win.
