What Lance Zierlein says about UNC offensive lineman Asim Richards

Here is what NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlen had to say about UNC football offensive lineman Asim Richards.

North Carolina offensive lineman [autotag]Asim Richards[/autotag] is getting praise from NFL insider Lance Zierlein months ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

The 307-pound lineman has been a center stone for UNC’s offensive line, starting 38 of 39 games in the last three years. Last season, Richards spent most of his time at left tackle, with 1,049 snaps played at that position. He was great at pass blocking, allowing only three sacks in 14 games.

Richards has a 6.15 prospect grade with potential playing a significant role in his draft stock. As the NFL draft slowly approaches, Zierlein talked about Richards and what he brings to the pro level.

“Richards is thick-hipped with good lower-body power fueling above average drive-blocking potential.” Zierlein said. “He clears space when he’s centered into opponents, but he lacks the body control and hand consistency to do so on a regular basis. Pass protection concerns will be diminished with a move inside, but there will still be work needed when it comes to getting his feet in position to slow interior rushers. Richards’ drive blocking and potential position versatility give him a shot at a backup role with upside.”

Richards was the 17th-ranked offensive tackle in the combine, receiving a production score of 60. As it stands, Richards is projected to go in the sixth round, putting another Tar Heel in the NFL.

Twitter reacts to UNC’s big win against Virginia

The North Carolina Tar Heels delivered a season-saving statement win over No. 6 Virginia, and here is how Twitter responded to it.

The Dean Dome rocked Saturday night as the North Carolina Tar Heels hosted the No. 6 Virginia Cavaliers and came away with a big win to save their NCAA Tournament hopes.

UNC had its backs on the wall as the uncertainty of an NCAA Tournament bid built over the last few weeks. As a result, it has not been on the better side of Joe Lunardi’s ESPN bracketology, listed among the first four out teams in the last update.

North Carolina entered the game in win-now mode, coming right out of the gate with an offensive explosion. The ball movement was the best it had been all year, and the open looks were falling.

Pete Nance played a significant role in that success, scoring 14 of UNC’s 42 first-half points. As Nance lit it up, UNC fans chanted the famous Tar Heel chant echoing a change of direction for the North Carolina basketball program.

The second half was a little rocky, but UNC could steer the ship, beating UVA, 71-63. This game showcased one of North Carolina’s best performances this season, and social media had much to say about it.

Let us look at how Twitter reacted to North Carolina’s big win.

Former UNC standout Brad Daugherty gets a Daytona 500 win

Former UNC basketball star Brad Daugherty made history at the Daytona 500 this past weekend.

Former North Carolina big man Brad Daugherty made history on Sunday in Daytona, Florida.

With Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s win in the Daytona 500, Daugherty became the first Black owner to win the Daytona 500. The win came under caution on Sunday night.

Daugherty is co-owner of JTG Daugherty Racing, which fields one car in the NASCAR series. That car and driver, Stenhouse Jr., delivered in a big way on Sunday night.

Daugherty had a standout career at North Carolina, playing four seasons with the Tar Heels. He was named a two-time All-ACC first-team selection and a first-team All-American under Dean Smith.

He was drafted No. 1 overall in the 1986 NBA draft and played with the Cleveland Cavaliers before retiring in 1996.

It will be a big weekend in Raleigh for the NC State Wolfpack and North Carolina Tar Heels. After the two women’s basketball programs met on Thursday night, the men’s basketball programs are going to battle in a big ACC game on Sunday.

And they will do so in style.
