Myles Garrett was snubbed as a Defensive Player of the Year finalist

There was one glaring omission from the list of Defensive Player of the Year finalists.

The NFL has announced its finalists for the Defensive Player of the Year award, and there was one glaring omission. While Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers, Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, and Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs made the cut, the Cleveland Browns saw All-NFL player Myles Garrett get snubbed from being even a finalist for the award.

Despite being third in pass rush win rate, despite being doubled the most of any pass rusher in the country, and despite having more sacks than both Parsons and Jones, Garrett was not even given consideration for the honors. With Jim Schwartz now at the helm, Garrett could reach even newer heights and give the league no choice but to notice him.

Myles Garrett responds to Kyle Allen’s plea for mercy: ‘I’ll lay him down a little gentler’

As the Browns and Texans get set, Kyle Allen spoke to the media this week and asked for mercy from his teammate at Texas A&M Myles Garrett

Earlier this week, quarterback Kyle Allen asked Myles Garrett, his former college teammate at Texas A&M, to “be nice to me” when the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans go to battle. Today, Garrett has responded to Allen’s plea for mercy, stating, “I’ll lay him down a little gentler than others, but he’s going in the graveyard too.”

Garrett currently sits with ten sacks on the season in ten games played for the Browns this season. He may even lead the league in uncalled holding penalties. He will not have an easy matchup this week, however, going against Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil when the Browns and Texans take the field in Houston.

Myles Garrett told he won’t get holding calls by NFL officials vs. Buccaneers

Myles Garrett must lead the league in uncalled holding penalties, and the Browns aren’t getting good enough explanations from officials.

It is quite obvious to anyone who watches Cleveland Browns games that defensive end Myles Garrett gets held a ton. And yet, Garrett hardly ever gets calls in his favor as opposing offensive tackles blatantly tie him to the ground. Despite this, Garrett provided constant pressure in the face of Tom Brady, racking up 1.5 sacks against the Buccaneers. Speaking to the media today as well, Garrett stated that officials have told him the no-calls will continue because he still gets through them.

“You’re fighting through the hold, so we’re not going to call it.”

To get this straight, the NFL told one of the premier pass rushers that he is too good to get a holding call in his favor.

Texans QB Kyle Allen has hilarious request for former Texas A&M teammate Myles Garrett

Kyle Allen and Myles Garrett were teammates back at Texas A&M, and as the Browns and Texans are set to face-off he pleads for mercy

As the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans get set for their Week 13 matchup, quarterback Kyle Allen has a message for his former Texas A&M teammate Myles Garrett. Speaking to the media about Garrett, Allen had a ton of praise for his former Aggie ally:

“I played with Myles in college so I know first-hand how good he is. And he has only gotten better since then… he’s a freak. He’s a good dude. He was the best player on our team then, and he’s one of the best players in the league now.”

Allen then made a hilarious request of Garrett he gets set to play against his former teammate: “Be nice to me.”

Garrett has already eclipsed the double-digit sack mark this season despite missing a game and playing through a mangled shoulder. Already the Browns’ all-time leader in sacks at just 26 years old, Garrett is on pace for another 15-sack season in 2022. How many can he rack up against his former quarterback?

Myles Garrett : ‘lack of importance in practice on forcing turnovers’

Cleveland’s best defensive player has some thoughts on the urgency in practice to force turnovers

This is not the first time that team captain Myles Garrett has sought accountability after a tough loss. And as the Cleveland Browns dropped to 3-7 on the season, losing to the Buffalo Bills, Garrett had more to say on the team’s practice habits. This time, Garrett stated there is a lack of importance on taking the ball away in practice.

Asked about the emphasis on creating turnovers, Garrett stated:

“The lack of importance when we go out there to practice. It just has to be more important to us if we want to force those takeaways in a game. We have goals… and we have to be better. Once we start forcing those takeaways like we have been the last couple of years, then we will see some of the results start to fall in our favor.”

Myles Garrett is really good, in case you need more evidence

In case you need more evidence that Myles Garrett has been one of the best players in the league this year, here you go!

Myles Garrett has been with the Cleveland Browns for so long now, what he does on a week-to-week basis has begun to look mundane. He did it again in the Monday Night Football win over the Cincinnati Bengals as well, racking up another 1.5 sacks, including another spectacular spin move sack.

ESPN’s Seth Walder continues to bring insightful data to the forefront as well, as he charts pass rush win rate and double team rate of every edge rusher. And there are only two at the top: Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons and Garrett. Leading the league in double-team rate, Garrett still sits second in the league in win rate, just behind Parsons. There is nobody even close to them at the top.

As he gets set to take on Terron Armstead and the Miami Dolphins after the bye week, the Browns will need another superhuman effort from Garrett to help keep their season afloat.

Myles Garrett set the pass rush quickness standard in win over Bengals

Garrett leads the NFL in fastest pass-rush get off from the snap and built upon that in a dominant performance against the Bengals

Anyone who watched Monday night’s triumphant Cleveland win over the Cincinnati Bengals knew how dominant Browns DE Myles Garrett looked. Thanks to Next Gen Stats, we have even more evidence of just how awesome Myles was on Halloween.

On his way to scaring up 1.5 sacks and six total pressures against Bengals QB Joe Burrow, Garrett proved nobody can generate pressure quicker than No. 95. Per Next Gen Stats, Garrett had the fastest initial pass rush success rate of any player in the NFL all season in the Browns victory. It builds upon a monster season for Garrett in terms of how fast he is off the line.

This is nothing new for Garrett, who also led the NFL in get-off speed last season as well. But he’s getting even quicker, as the Next Gen Stats notes laid out,

“This is even better than last season when Garrett’s average pass get-off was 0.76 seconds.”

Myles Garrett is PFF’s highest-graded defender in Week 6

There was not a defender in the entire NFL with a higher grade than Myles Garrett in Week 6

Sure, PFF grades are just one piece to a larger puzzle that also includes film, but not a single defender earned a bigger grade in Week 6 than Myles Garrett did when the Cleveland Browns took on the New England Patriots. On the day, Garrett finished with a grade of 93.9, marking his second-highest grade on the season behind his Week 1 showing against the Carolina Panthers.

He finished with a pass rush grade of 94.3 and a run defense grade of 72.5. All-in-all, Garrett took care of business in both phases of the game. And it showed up on tape as well, as he racked up a massive eight pressures, two sacks, and forced one turnover for the Cleveland defense.

While he left the game after banging up his already tender shoulder, Garrett had negative x-rays and is expected to play against the Baltimore Ravens this week. The Browns will need another superhuman effort as they look to get back on track and advance to 2-0 against AFC North foes.

Myles Garrett gets good news on tender shoulder after leaving game vs. Patriots

The Browns and Myles Garrett get good news on his shoulder, as his x-ray came back negative after leaving the game vs. the Patriots

Despite a car accident three weeks ago, pass rusher Myles Garrett missed just one game, suiting up and making an impact against both the Los Angeles Chargers and the New England Patriots. It has been evident, however, that Garrett is still working through a tender shoulder after he sprained it in the accident.

After wrapping up Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe for his second sack of the game on a crucial third down, Garrett stayed down in obvious pain. The same can be seen on the tape against the Chargers. Today, however, Garrett and the Browns were gifted with good news as an x-ray on his shoulder came back negative according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

With the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals up next, the Browns will need Garrett to continue to be superhuman to keep their season alive.

Browns Film Room: Weekly Myles Garrett impact tracker vs. Patriots

How did Myles Garrett fair against the New England Patriots? Cory Kinnan takes a look at the impact he has had on the Browns defensively.

The Cleveland Browns have lost their third straight game (this time at the hands of the New England Patriots), and the defense gave up over 30 points in back-to-back weeks. This has put this side of the football under a microscope, specifically the Browns’ All-Pro pass rusher in Myles Garrett.

For back-to-back weeks, Garrett has come under fire from the fanbase for not doing enough. At this point, these Garrett film rooms are going to become a weekly occurrence to dispute or confirm any claim made against him.

Here we will look at how Garrett is analytically viewed, how he looked as a pass rusher, and how he faired as a run defender as well.
