Kentucky vs Missouri Game Preview

Why Kentucky Will Win

Missouri’s offense isn’t Tennessee’s.

Kentucky actually did a better job defensively than the 44-6 loss to the Vols might indicate – that’s looking DEEP for a positive in that – keeping the high-powered attack to 422 yards. It was only the second time all year the Vols didn’t get to 500.

For all of the good things Missouri is doing, the offense isn’t going off. It only got past 270 yards against Abilene Christian and Louisiana Tech, the offensive line allows way too many plays behind the line, and turnovers have been a massive issue until …

Why Missouri Will Win

The South Carolina game. That might have been the big pivot the program needed.

The Tigers went to the other SEC Columbia and came out with a sharp 23-10 win, getting a decent day out of the passing game and a brilliant day from the SEC’s third-best defense.

Florida and Kansas State were the only teams easily able to run against this bunch, and that’s because their quarterbacks took off – that’s not Will Levis.

Even with the possible No. 1 pick in the draft under center, the Kentucky offense isn’t going off – it only came up with 98 passing yards against Tennessee’s then second-worst pass defense in the nation.

The Wildcats are going to struggle to get to 100 yards on the ground, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Missouri can play Kentucky’s game – it’s great at slowing things down a bit and controlling the clock.

It’s going to be about the turnovers. Kentucky has given it up multiple times in five of the last six games, and Missouri has forced two takeaways in three of the last four games.

Can the Tigers keep the mistakes to a minimum after giving it up seven times against Florida and Vanderbilt? Kentucky doesn’t do enough to force turnovers.

Missouri vs South Carolina Game Preview

Why Missouri Will Win

The Mizzou defense has been terrific. It’s generating pressure, it’s strong on third downs, and it’s been able to hold up well since the 40-12 debate against Kansas State.

The loss to the Wildcats was more on the offense – more on that in a moment – but the Tigers haven’t allowed more than 26 points to anyone in the last five games, including Georgia.

On the other side, South Carolina doesn’t generate much of a pass rush, it’s not going to have the ball for more than about 27 minutes, there will be turnovers.

The Gamecocks will give it up twice getting off the bus. However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why South Carolina Will Win

That’s baked into the cake. We know South Carolina will turn it over multiple times because it has done it in every game so far.

When Missouri turns it over, though, the mistakes come in bunches and are far more painful.

The O made the 17-14 win over Vanderbilt way harder than it had to be with four turnovers, and that’s coming off the three-giveaway game in the 24-17 loss to Florida. All of that is a few games removed from the fumble in overtime in the loss to Auburn.

South Carolina helps make up for its own mistakes with takeaways, generating ten in the last four games.

Yes, the competition had something to do with it – the losses came against Georgia and Arkansas – but the Gamecocks are now 5-0 when coming up with a turnover and 0-2 when they don’t. The Georgia game was the only time Mizzou got through a game turnover-free with multiple giveaways against every other FBS team.

All that, and …

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

South Carolina is finding a way.

QB Spencer Rattler isn’t always sharp, but he’s able to hit a big throw here in there – that arm is amazing – to change things up. No, there isn’t a pass rush, but the D has been solid enough against the run, and it’s not doing a ton of breaking to go along with all that bending.

That will all happen in this, too.

The passing game will be a bit better than it was in last week’s win over Texas A&M, the defense will hold up well enough, and to hammer this home, the turnovers – they’ll be there for both sides. The home team will benefit from that.

Vanderbilt vs Missouri Game Preview

Why Vanderbilt Will Win

It’s been a rough three weeks for Vanderbilt, but that’s what happens when you play at Alabama, Ole Miss, and at Georgia.

Now the team gets a pitch it can hit.

It starts with an offensive line that’s doing a decent job. The running game is okay when it’s not going against an elite team, and the pass protection is there – defensive fronts aren’t getting behind the line.

That line has to get the running game going. Mizzou might have been close in the last three games, but it still lost to Auburn, Georgia, and Florida – closing is not this team’s strong suit.

Auburn couldn’t run, but Georgia moved a bit and Florida ripped off yards in chunks. As long as the Commodores can average over four yards per carry, they should be able to stay in it. However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 7

Why Missouri Will Win

Missouri might not let Vanderbilt stay on the field long enough to matter. The offensive side doesn’t have to take a whole lot of risks against a Vandy D that’s getting lit up by everyone.

The Tigers are hardly perfect, but they’re fantastic at controlling the clock and own the time of possession battle. The Commodores allowed over 1,200 passing yards in the last three games and 300 or more five of the last six. QB Brady Cook doesn’t have to go off, but he should be able to hit the third down throws.

Do that, rely on the defense to bend but not break as it gets off the field on a consistent basis, and all should be fine.

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Is Missouri the type of team that plays up or down to its competition, or can it come out and blast away in a game against a Power Five team it’s supposed to easily beat?

The defense has been getting the job done, but this is when the offense gets to eat. It’ll be balanced, there won’t be a slew of mistakes, and again, the time of possession battle will matter.

Florida vs Missouri Game Preview

Why Missouri Will Win

There hasn’t been a lick of luck over the last few games, but the Tigers are playing well.

They had the win six inches away against Auburn, but RB Nathaniel Peat dropped the ball before crossing the goal line in the 17-14 loss.

It always felt like Georgia was going to rise up and get the job done in Columbia, but Mizzou gave the defending national champ a whale of a fight last week in a 26-22 loss.

What’s it doing right?

The offense hasn’t been anything special, but it didn’t turn it over against the Bulldogs and there was just one giveaway before Peat’s fateful final dash against the Tigers.

The defense has been terrific against the run, it has been great on third downs, and overall the team is able to control games by owning the clock – Mizzou leads the SEC and is fifth in the nation in time of possession.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Florida Will Win

There’s the Anthony Richardson we’ve all been waiting for.

He didn’t throw a touchdown pass over the first three games, and then he unleashed his skills with 453 yards and two scores in the wild loss to Tennessee.

He didn’t have to do much in the Sunday morning blowout over Eastern Washington, but he’s playing well enough now to start doing even more with the passing game.

The Gator offensive line – helped by the system – is keeping defenses out of the backfield, Richardson is hitting the big shots down the field, and the running game is ripping off yards in chunks.

However …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Florida defense isn’t coming up with enough third down stops, the offense will be on the field for about 25 minutes – Missouri will always seem like it has the ball – and coming off a short week won’t help.

It’ll be a fight. Missouri will once again get into the fourth quarter with a shot at pulling this off, and once again, it’ll come up just short.

It won’t be a pretty or even performance from Florida, but it’s still trying to put it all together in a must win with LSU, Georgia, and Texas A&M up next.
