Florida vs Missouri Game Preview

Why Missouri Will Win

There hasn’t been a lick of luck over the last few games, but the Tigers are playing well.

They had the win six inches away against Auburn, but RB Nathaniel Peat dropped the ball before crossing the goal line in the 17-14 loss.

It always felt like Georgia was going to rise up and get the job done in Columbia, but Mizzou gave the defending national champ a whale of a fight last week in a 26-22 loss.

What’s it doing right?

The offense hasn’t been anything special, but it didn’t turn it over against the Bulldogs and there was just one giveaway before Peat’s fateful final dash against the Tigers.

The defense has been terrific against the run, it has been great on third downs, and overall the team is able to control games by owning the clock – Mizzou leads the SEC and is fifth in the nation in time of possession.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 5

Why Florida Will Win

There’s the Anthony Richardson we’ve all been waiting for.

He didn’t throw a touchdown pass over the first three games, and then he unleashed his skills with 453 yards and two scores in the wild loss to Tennessee.

He didn’t have to do much in the Sunday morning blowout over Eastern Washington, but he’s playing well enough now to start doing even more with the passing game.

The Gator offensive line – helped by the system – is keeping defenses out of the backfield, Richardson is hitting the big shots down the field, and the running game is ripping off yards in chunks.

However …

What’s Going To Happen

The Florida defense isn’t coming up with enough third down stops, the offense will be on the field for about 25 minutes – Missouri will always seem like it has the ball – and coming off a short week won’t help.

It’ll be a fight. Missouri will once again get into the fourth quarter with a shot at pulling this off, and once again, it’ll come up just short.

It won’t be a pretty or even performance from Florida, but it’s still trying to put it all together in a must win with LSU, Georgia, and Texas A&M up next.

Florida vs Missouri Game Preview

Why Florida Will Win

Florida is still good.

It might have been a disaster against South Carolina, and the Samford game was way too much of a problem, and …

The offense still works, and the Missouri defense doesn’t.

Oh sure, there are massive issues – more on that in a moment – but the Gators are able to run well, the offense has the ability to push for close to 500 yards if the passing game is clicking, and the Missouri defense gives up lots and lots and lots of yards.

It did a nice job against South Carolina, but it got thrown on by Georgia, run on by Vanderbilt and Texas, and it has a problem on third downs against just about everyone.

This is going to be a shootout, and Florida knows how to keep up. However …

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 12

Why Missouri Will Win

The Florida defense has decided to take the rest of 2021 off.

It was a bit problem in key moments in 2020, but that was 2020 – whatever. But LSU hasn’t been able to run on anyone, and it cranked up over 300 rushing yards in the win over the Gators a few weeks ago.

South Carolina hasn’t been able to consistently run on anyone, and it ran wild on in the 40-17 win. And then came last week – Samford threw for over 400 yards and kept pushing in the 70-56 loss.

Mizzou QB Connor Bazelak might still be a bit banged up, and he throws for too many picks, but he should have a good day, and RB Tyler Badie – with three 200-yard days in the last five – should go off.

NFL Expert Picks: CFN Week 11

What’s Going To Happen

Here’s the thing about Missouri over the years. It usually beats the teams it’s supposed to, it usually loses to the teams it’s supposed to, and then it all comes down to the 50/50 games.

It lost the 50/50 game at Boston College, and it couldn’t hold up on the road against Kentucky and Tennessee. Now it gets a trending-down Florida team at home with a shot at getting bowl eligible, and the offense will go off.

Don’t watch this if you like defense in any way. It might be a last-at-bat-wins sort of shootout.

Why Florida Will Win

The Missouri offense is a mess.

Kelly Bryant hasn’t been healthy for weeks, was out in the shutout loss to Georgia, and while he’s playing agains the Gators, he hasn’t been himself.

Ever since the 38-27 win over Ole Miss, the Tigers managed just 21 points over the last three games, getting stuffed by Vanderbilt and Kentucky teams that aren’t good enough to be stopping anyone cold.

What’s been the problem? The running game has come to a dead stop.

So far this year, Mizzou is 5-0 when running for 165 yards or more, and 0-4 when being held to fewer. The Florida defensive front got rumbled on by LSU and South Carolina in back-to-back weeks, but those are the only two times it allowed more than 140 yards.

On the other side, the Missouri pass rush isn’t there to provide any consistent pressure on Kyle Trask. The Tiger D overall has been good, and the pass defense works, but as long as the Gators have time to work, the passing attack will be effective enough.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Missouri Will Win

Mizzou is at home.

It’s partly because almost all of the good games have been on the road so far, and partly because the team appears to be a different sort of animal in Columbia, but it’s 5-0 at home, and 0-4 on the road. Now the team is finally back after three weeks away from Faurot Field.

How much will the weather matter? It’s high 70s all week in Gainesville, it’s supposed to be in the 60s this weekend, and it’s expected to be in the 40s in Columbia at game time.

On the field, Florida has a turnover problem. It turned the ball over 21 times so far with there giveaways against Vanderbilt last week. That hardly mattered in a 56-0 win, but considering the problems lately for the punchless Tigers, being up in the turnover battle is a must.

The team is +6 in the five wins, and -5 in the four losses. However …

What’s Going To Happen

Almost no one is better than Florida at taking the ball away.

Missouri pulled off one of the bigger stunners of the 2018 SEC season with a 38-17 win in Gainesville, but that’s hardly anything new. The Tigers are 5-3 all-time against the Gators – starting with the win in the 1966 Sugar Bowl – and have won two straight in the series.

This time around, though, Mizzou just doesn’t have enough offense to pull off the upset against a defense that’s too tough against the run and won’t give up enough big plays against the struggling passing game.
