Michigan State signs Chicago defensive lineman Mikeshun Beeler

Chicago defensive lineman inks his NLI with Michigan State

The second, and final National Signing Day is today. That will put the conclusion to the 2024 recruiting classes across college football, seeing several recruits finally sign on the dotted line. Standout Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive lineman Mikeshun Beeler officially signed with Michigan State after committing to the program two days ago.

Beeler ended up selecting Michigan State over a pretty impressive offer list. The Chicago native held scholarship offers from the Spartans, Oregon, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Arizona State, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Purdue, and Indiana.

He also held other offers from Wyoming, Marshall, Toledo, Miami (OH), Ohio, Central Michigan, Kent State, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Akron, Buffalo, Ball State, Bowling Green, Dartmouth, Lafayette, Howard, Fordham, Illinois State, Southern Illinois, and Jackson State. Beeler’s offer list has especially expanded over the last couple of months.

The 6-4, 280-pound defensive end ranked as a three-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. ESPN has Beeler pegged the highest, sitting as the No. 70 defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class, including being ranked as the No. 26 player in the state of Illinois.

In ten games as a senior, Beeler led Simeon with 14 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He also recorded 36 total tackles and forced two fumbles.

Beeler became the 20th signee in the 2024 recruiting class for Michigan State. He was the second defensive lineman to join the program in 2024, joining Hawaii edge defender Kekai Burnett.

Michigan State signs Texas wide receiver Jaylan Brown

Spartans added a wide receiver from the Lone Star State.

The second and final National Signing Day took place today, putting the bow on recruiting classes across college football. Although most players signed back in December, there are several who waited to officially sign on Wednesday. Standout 2024 Nacogdoches (Texas) High School wide receiver Jaylan Brown, who committed to Michigan State a couple of weeks ago, finally put pen to paper and signed with the Spartans.

Brown opted for Michigan State over other offers from Washington State and North Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit by On3, 247Sports and Rivals. 247Sports has him pegged as the No. 60 player in the state of Texas in the 2024 class, a state that traditionally puts out talent at an extremely high level.

The 6-4, 185-pound pass catcher was the leading receiver for the Nacogdoches Dragons as a senior. In 10 games as a senior, Brown hauled in 55 receptions for 908 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging a healthy 16.5 yards per reception. The Texas native also recorded an interception on limited reps defensively.

Heading into the day, Michigan State is currently ranked as the No. 37 overall team in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings. Brown becomes the 19th player to sign with the Spartans in the 2024 class. He is the third wide receiver signee in the class, including four-star Michigan star Nick Marsh and Ohio standout Austin Clay.

LOOK: Michigan hockey coaches don’t join handshake line with Michigan State

Michigan’s coaches didn’t join the handshake line following a weekend series with Michigan State:

Anyone who knows the game of hockey understands that the handshake line after a series, whether its the playoffs in the NHL or a weekend series in college and all different forms in the sport, is a tradition that is held with the highest respect. The handshake line tradition is sacred to the game of hockey and shows the upmost respect, sportsmanship and integrity to the game of hockey.

After Michigan State and Michigan’s series ending game on Saturday in Ann Arbor, a game the Spartans won to split the weekend series, the Michigan coaching staff did not join the traditional handshake line at center ice with the Michigan State players.

An unfortunate display after a hard fought rivalry series.

Though, it wasn’t easy, and it was a roller coaster ride in Ann Arbor for Spartan fans on Saturday.

It was another horrid start for Michigan State, going down 4-1 early into the second period, but the switch flipped. When that switch flipped, it flipped in a big way.

The Spartans responded with 6 unanswered goals, four of which coming in a seven minute span to end the second period, taking a 5-4 lead.

The Big Ten leading Spartans will be back in action at Munn Ice Arena next weekend against Minnesota.

After demolishing Baylor, does Tom Izzo have Michigan State back in business?

Tom Izzo and Michigan State blasted Baylor on Saturday, is this the turning point of the college basketball season for the Spartans?

On Saturday the Michigan State Spartans and Baylor Bears met at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit for a non-conference battle.

Coming into the game Baylor was undefeated at 9-0 and No. 6 in the Coaches poll, while Michigan State was 4-5 and had not received a single vote in the latest poll, despite being ranked No. 4 in the preseason.

You’d be forgiven for thinking those roles were reversed after the Spartans jumped out to a 45-17 halftime lead and coasted to an easy 88-64 win, securing their biggest margin of victory over a top 10 ranked opponent in program history.

“It was a step in the right direction,” coach Tom Izzo said after the game. “It shows you what we can be against a very, very good team.”

Spartans guard Tyson Walker finished with 25 points including 18 in the first half – literally outscoring the No.4 ranked offense in the entire country (per KenPom) by himself.

Is this the marquee win Izzo and the Spartans need to get their act together and become that top-five caliber team they were billed as in the preseason?

“We aren’t giving up on ourselves,” Izzo said. “We’re not dead yet.”

If this is the turnaround point for Michigan State, it likely means this team will be much better at shooting the deep ball going forward – an area they massively struggled to begin the campaign but went 8-12 (66.7%) on Saturday.

The Spartans host Oakland on Monday evening, followed by Stony Brook on December 21 and Indiana State to close out the year on December 30.

A trio of relatively easy non-conference games could keep the momentum going for Michigan State heading into Big Ten play, where they remain a strong contender to finish in the top five even after dropping their first two league games to Wisconsin and Nebraska.
