Virginia vs. Ohio odds: Wahoos heavily favored over Ohio in Round 1

Previewing Saturday’s Ohio Bobcats vs. Virginia Cavaliers odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 13-seed Ohio Bobcats (16-7) meet the 4-seed Virginia Cavaliers (18-6) Saturday, March 20 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Indiana for a first-round game in the West Regional. The tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. ET and will broadcast on truTV.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Ohio-Virginia odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Ohio basketball has had a proud history, and who can forget guys like Snoopy Graham, Dave Jamerson and Gary Trent, a.k.a. the “Shaq of the MAC”?

Head coach Jeff Boals, who previously had success at Stony Brook, has the Bobcats back in the Big Dance for the first time since 2012.

The last time Ohio was here they stunned 4-seed Michigan in their first game, and took down South Florida in the third round, reaching the Sweet Sixteen before getting ousted by North Carolina in overtime.

This season the Bobcats rolled through the MAC Tournament with three wins and three covers, including a 15-point win over Buffalo in the final as 2.5-point underdogs.

That avenged a 20-point dusting in the regular-season finale in Athens against the Bulls, the only loss and non-cover for the Bobcats across the past 10.

The last time we saw Virginia, or really, we didn’t see them, was at the ACC Tournament. They topped Syracuse in their opening game in Greensboro, but could not play Georgia Tech in the second game due to a positive COVID test within the program.

After a three-game SU and ATS skid from Feb. 15-24, they have rattled off wins in three in a row, although they still only covered one of those outings.

Remember, too, Virginia is the defending national champion. They cut down the nets in Minneapolis in April 2019. Last season, of course, we did not have an NCAA Tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the ‘Hoos were the last team we saw featured in “One Shining Moment”.

They’re a 4-seed this year, but to be the champs you have to beat the champs, and they won’t likely go quietly into the night.

Loyola Chicago vs. Georgia Tech odds: Loyola slight favorites in Round 1

Previewing Friday’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Loyola Chicago Ramblers odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 9-seed Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (17-8) meet the 8-seed Loyola Chicago Ramblers (24-4) Friday, March 19 in the first round of the Midwest Regional Friday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for a 4 p.m. ET tip-off.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Georgia Tech-Loyola Chicago odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Georgia Tech pulled off the mild upset over Florida State in the ACC Championship Game in Greensboro, N.C. as 4.5-point underdogs, winning the league title for the first time in 27 years. They hadn’t even appeared in the Final since 2010.

The Yellow Jackets had an assist from COVID, as Virginia was forced out of Saturday’s game due to a positive test within the program. But the Jackets beat Miami in the opener, and FSU in the title game, so take nothing away from the accomplishment of head coach Josh Pastner’s bunch.

Overall, the Yellow Jackets have won eight in a row, so they might be the hottest thing going from the ACC right now. They’re also 8-1 ATS across the past nine games overall while hitting the Over in four of the past five.

We all remember Loyola’s run to the Final Four as an 11-seed back in 2018, and who could forget Sister Jean? She is now 101 years old and hopeful of attending despite the COVID-19 global pandemic and restrictions.

Loyola owns an 8-seed this season, higher than their improbable 2018, but will the sequel be as good as the original run?

This team rambled through the Missouri Valley Conference tournament with wins over Southern Illinois, Indiana State and Drake by 10 or more points, covering all three games.

They’re also on a six-game win streak since a 51-50 overtime setback at Drake on Feb. 14. Their last loss in regulation came Jan. 10 at Indiana State.

The Ramblers were cover kings in-season, going 10-1-1 ATS during a 12-game stretch from Dec. 27-Feb. 1. Books adjusted, and the Ramblers hit the rocks, going 1-6 ATS in the final seven games to close out the regular season.

UC Santa Barbara vs. Creighton odds: Creighton moderate favorites in Round 1

Previewing Saturday’s UC Santa Barbara Gauchos vs. Creighton Blue Jays odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 12th-seeded UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (22-4) meet the fifth-seeded Creighton Blue Jays (20-8) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET tip-off as the NCAA Tournament begins March Madness season.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup UC Santa Barbara-Creighton odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

UCSB is a personal favorite of mine, as I watch its games quite frequently, and even rep the school wearing a hat in my home state of North Carolina. The Gauchos quietly picked up 22 victories during the regular season, and they won each of their three Big West tourney games by eight or more points, covering two of the outings. Their last setback was at UC Riverside on Feb. 27, as the Highlanders avenged a heartbreaking loss the night before. Prior to that, the Gauchos hadn’t lost since a back-to-back at UC Irvine Dec. 27-28. UCSB enjoyed a 9-2 ATS run from Jan. 15-Feb. 26 before closing out the regular season on an 0-3 ATS skid.

UCSB is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011. They have won just once in six previous appearances, topping Houston in the first round of the 1990 installment as a 9-seed, 70-66, before bowing out to top-seeded Michigan State by four points in the second round. The past two appearances for the Gauchos have resulted in a pair of losses by an average of 22.5 points.

PLAY in the USA TODAY Sports’ bracket sweepstakes! Printable brackets. Private groups. Prizes. And mobile users can play USA TODAY Sports’ Couchketball virtual hoops challenge – the interactive basketball game where your skills determine the outcome!

Creighton came up short in the Big East final, falling hard to Cinderella story Georgetown and head coach Patrick Ewing by a 73-48 score. It was easily the worst loss of the season for the Blue Jays, who also fell by seven at home to the Hoyas back on Feb. 3. The Blue Jays spent plenty of time in the rankings this season and were in the NCAA Tournament regardless, but the loss to the Hoyas was rather alarming. They’re just 3-3 SU across the past six, with three of those losses by eight or more points.

The Jays haven’t had a very good recent history in the NCAA Tournament, at least against the number. They’re just 1-5-1 ATS in the past seven as a favorite in the Big Dance, and 1-10-1 ATS in the previous 12 appearances overall in the tournament.

Wisconsin vs. North Carolina odds: Tar Heels favored in March Madness Round 1

Previewing Friday’s Wisconsin Badgers vs. North Carolina Tar Heels odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The 9-seed Wisconsin Badgers (17-12) meet the 8-seed North Carolina Tar Heels (18-10) in an NCAA South Region First Round game on Friday. The game tips off at 7:10 p.m. ET at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Wisconsin-North Carolina odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Wisconsin has had an up-and-down season. The Badgers went 10-10 in conference play. They bowed out of the league tournament after one win and are just 2-6 in their last eight games. UW has shot just 39.2% from the field over that stretch.

The Badgers play a slow-paced brand of basketball, and they take good care of the rock. Wisconsin has one of the best turnover rates in NCAA-I. UW plays low-scoring games and the Badgers are 14-14-1 O/U in its 29 games.

North Carolina went 10-6 in ACC play, finishing fifth in the 15-team circuit. UNC trots out a big lineup (four players 6-foot-10 or bigger in the rotation), one accomplished on the boards (best in the nation on the offensive glass), and on the inside game.

But, the Tar Heels struggle from distance (31.7% on 3-point attempts), and they can be inconsistent with their overall shooting. North Carolina often shoots over 50% from the floor or under 44% but rarely something in between, which is where most teams live.

UNC has won seven national championships (1924, 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, 2009, and 2017). Winning as an 8-seed would be a longshot: BetMGM odds for UNC winning it all are +5000 (50-to-1).

Oral Roberts vs. Ohio State odds: Ohio State expected to roll in Round 1

Previewing Friday’s Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Oral Roberts Golden Eagles odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (16-10) meet the Ohio State Buckeyes (21-9) at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday for a 3 p.m. ET tip-off.

Tennessee vs. Oregon State odds: Tennessee favored in March Madness Round 1

Previewing Friday’s Tennessee Volunteers at Oregon State Beavers odds and lines during their March Madness Round 1 matchup.

March Madness begins and the No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers (18-8) vs. No. 12 Oregon State Beavers (17-12) tangle Friday, March 19. The full game schedule has yet to be released.

Below, we look at the early March Madness Round 1 matchup Tennessee-Oregon State odds and lines. Will one of these teams end up as this year’s National Champion? Don’t forget to check out all of the teams’ March Madness odds.

Tennessee, who led the SEC in defensive turnover rate, started hot, going 10-1 to begin the season but didn’t live up to it down the stretch, going just 8-7 in their final 15 games of the season.

The Volunteers were 10-7 in conference play. Forward John Fulkerson‘s status is up in the air, per The Tennessean, after suffering a facial fracture, which required a procedure to address it Sunday morning, and a concussion Friday vs. Florida, which hurts Tennessee’s chances. Tennessee lost in the SEC tournament semifinals to Alabama without Fulkerson Saturday, 73-68.

Oregon State, who was 10-10 in conference play, was a mild surprise, winning the Pac-12 tournament championship largely on the strength of their 3-point attempts — 44% during the tournament, up significantly from the 33% they shot during conference play. They’re getting hot at the right time, going 6-1 in their past seven games.

Favorites to win March Madness Tournament

Which teams do the sportsbook oddsmakers think have the best chance of winning the March Madness tournament?

The March Madness tournament is in motion, as the first round was released earlier today during Selection Sunday. With it, the March Madness favorites have been set by sportsbooks. In short order, round one will begin and a field of 68 teams will battle it out in the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament to see which team will be left standing.

The early top-three National Champion favorites include Gonzaga +275 (bet $100, profit $275), Baylor +350 (bet $100, profit $350) and Michigan +600 (bet $100, profit $600) per the oddsmakers at BetMGM Sportsbook.

Rounding out the top five includes Illinois (+900) and Ohio State (+1400).

New to the world of sports betting? An early wager offers solid profit if you’re correct; the odds will only get shorter as the tournament continues and teams are knocked out.

If you can nail a long-shot, the returns become even better. Think Alabama (+1600) can win it all? A $100 wager on Alabama returns a $1,600 profit if you’re correct and they win the championship. How about Indiana (+3500)? A $100 wager there returns a $3,500 return if Indiana wins the National Championship.
