Titans RB Derrick Henry calls Nick Chubb best on the planet

Even Titans’ running back Derrick Henry knows the Browns have the best in the game in Nick Chubb

We got a glimpse into the mind of the Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry last night on Monday Night Football. When Mike Tirico asked him “how the best running back on the planet” was, Henry responded that it was Nick Chubb and not him. Even the rushing title winner from 2020 knows the Cleveland Browns have the best running back in the league.

And there is merit to Henry’s word as Chubb is the best all-around back in the league. From his vision to his fast feet, to his brand of physicality, there is no shortage of ways Chubb can win.

Chubb is just 29 yards behind Henry for the most rushing yards in the league in an equal amount of games. The difference? Chubb is averaging nearly a yard more per attempt than Henry as the Browns are giving him a career-high in carries in 2022.

It will be a race to the finish between these two and Saquon Barkley that will be fun to watch until the end.

Rebuilding Panthers not eager to hand Browns a 4th round pick

The Panthers will not start Baker Mayfield, holding a fourth rounder hostage from the Browns.

Baker Mayfield has played just 60 percent of the offensive snaps for the Carolina Panthers this season. After he was traded by the Cleveland Browns this summer, the two sides agreed on the price of a conditional fifth round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft that becomes a fourth rounder should Mayfield take 70 percent of the offensive snaps for the Panthers.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, however, the Panthers will continue to start P.J. Walker despite a tumultuous showing against the Cincinnati Bengals that led to his benching. Mayfield came into the game and played well despite the 35-0 hole in front of him.

It sure seems like the rebuilding Panthers have the snap percentage of Mayfield in the back of their minds.

Browns sign C Jordan Meredith to practice squad, release Brock Hoffman

The Browns have swapped out one center for another on their practice squad, signing Jordan Meredith and releasing Brock Hoffman

The Cleveland Browns have been busy out of their bye week. First, they designated two of their original 53-man players for return from Injured Reserve, and now they have made a move on their practice squad. According to The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook, the Browns have swapped out one practice squad center for another, signing Jordan Meredith and releasing Brock Hoffman.

Hoffman was on Cleveland’s roster throughout training camp, did not make their final roster, and then was signed to the practice squad after a strong preseason. Meredith, an undrafted free agent from the 2021 NFL Draft out of Western Kentucky, has spent time with the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders over the past season and a half.

Baker Mayfield snap tracker: Are the Browns on the way to a 4th round pick?

The Browns can get a fourth rounder instead of a fifth if Baker Mayfield player 70 percent of snaps in 2022. Where do the stand?

There may not have been a trade more under the microscope this offseason than when the Cleveland Browns traded former first overall pick, Baker Mayfield, to the Carolina Panthers. After publicly pursuing other options, Mayfield requested a trade from the Browns. The Browns initially denied his request, then landed their new guy, then sent Mayfield to the Panthers for a conditional 2024 fifth round pick.

The condition of the trade, however, was the fifth rounder could become a fourth rounder if Mayfield plays 70 percent of the offensive snaps for the Panthers in 2022. Where does he sit right now?

Coming into their game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Panthers had played a total of 468 offensive snaps. Mayfield played just 285 of them, sitting him at just over 60 percent of Carolina’s offensive snaps. He did, however, take over for P.J. Walker at halftime of the game after the Panthers fell down 35-0.

So while the Browns’ pick still sits as a fifth rounder, they could be trending back in the direction of getting a fourth instead should Mayfield continue to be the guy moving forward for the Panthers.

Browns boast PFF’s highest-graded offensive and defensive players in 2022

The Browns boast PFF’s highest-graded player on both sides of the football in 2022.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Cleveland Browns have the highest-graded player on both sides of the ball thus far in 2022 according to PFF. Offensive guard Joel Bitonio and defensive end Myles Garrett have performed the best on their respective sides of the ball league-wide through eight weeks this season.

Garrett has graded out at an elite level, scoring 92.9 this season. For the fourth straight season, Garrett has graded out as an elite pass rusher with a pass rush grade over 90. Bitonio, playing through his ninth NFL season, sits with an offensive grade of 91.3. For the third straight season, both his run block and pass block grade are over 80.

As the Browns look to save their season against the Miami Dolphins out of the bye week, they will need both Garrett and Bitonio to continue their dominance.

Myles Garrett set the pass rush quickness standard in win over Bengals

Garrett leads the NFL in fastest pass-rush get off from the snap and built upon that in a dominant performance against the Bengals

Anyone who watched Monday night’s triumphant Cleveland win over the Cincinnati Bengals knew how dominant Browns DE Myles Garrett looked. Thanks to Next Gen Stats, we have even more evidence of just how awesome Myles was on Halloween.

On his way to scaring up 1.5 sacks and six total pressures against Bengals QB Joe Burrow, Garrett proved nobody can generate pressure quicker than No. 95. Per Next Gen Stats, Garrett had the fastest initial pass rush success rate of any player in the NFL all season in the Browns victory. It builds upon a monster season for Garrett in terms of how fast he is off the line.

This is nothing new for Garrett, who also led the NFL in get-off speed last season as well. But he’s getting even quicker, as the Next Gen Stats notes laid out,

“This is even better than last season when Garrett’s average pass get-off was 0.76 seconds.”

Andrew Berry: Win vs. Bengals ‘drastically altered approach’ to trade deadline

General manager Andrew Berry stated the win over the Bengals shifted the priorities of the Cleveland Browns at the trade deadline

As the trade deadline came to a close at 4 PM yesterday, the Cleveland Browns stood pat and did not make a move. Despite getting calls on both running back Kareem Hunt and cornerback Greedy Williams, general manager Andrew Berry stood his ground and retained his talent.

Speaking to the media today, Berry has stated the beatdown win over the Cincinnati Bengals “drastically altered [our] approach” at the deadline. If the Browns would have dropped to 2-6 on the season, they would have been more inclined to sell. Now entering the bye week, the Browns have the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers left before getting their starting quarterback back from a suspension.

If the Browns can find a way to sneak out two wins in this span, matching up evenly with the Dolphins and potentially catching the sluggish Buccaneers, they can head into their last six games with a record of 5-6 on the season.

Browns stay silent at trade deadline, Kareem Hunt remains in Cleveland

The Browns stood pat at the trade deadline, holding on to Kareem Hunt

According to PFF’s Ari Meirov, the Cleveland Browns stood pat at the trade deadline and did not make a move. This includes the swirling rumors around running back Kareem Hunt, who now remains in Cleveland for the last nine games of his contract. Meirov also reports the Browns were looking for a fourth round pick, but Hunt will now contribute toward a compensatory pick when he signs elsewhere this offseason.

Coming off of a win against the Cincinnati Bengals, and now sitting at 2-1 in the division, the Browns may feel like they are in a position to compete again in 2022. Entering their bye week on a high note, the Browns will likely need to win two of their next three to stay in the running for an AFC North title and wildcard contention.

Coming off of a game with 15 touches against the Bengals, Hunt may remain in the plans of the Cleveland offense after all.

Browns continue to get calls on Kareem Hunt as trade deadline nears

The Browns continue to field calls for running back Kareem Hunt but “won’t be giving him away for nothing.”

As the trade deadline races to a conclusion in just over an hour, the Cleveland Browns continue to field phone calls on running back Kareem Hunt. According to The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook, the phone lines are active, but the Browns “won’t be giving him away for nothing.”

Earlier today, Josina Anderson reported the Browns prefer to keep Hunt as well, meaning they have a price in mind. If they are not offered that price, then expect Hunt to play out the last nine games of his contract in an orange and brown uniform.

The NFL has been active today, and with the 4 PM EST deadline looming, more moves are sure to be made. Will Hunt be one of them?

Browns ‘prefer to keep Kareem Hunt’ as trade deadline approaches

As the trade deadline approaches, the Browns do not have any big plans. That includes the rumors surrounding Kareem Hunt.

As the trade deadline is set to strike at 4 PM Eastern Standard Time today, the Cleveland Browns are not expected to be heavy participants. The one name that has circulated a great deal in trade rumors, however, has been running back Kareem Hunt. With just nine games left on his contract, the Browns have been actively listening to offers on Hunt.

However, according to Josina Anderson today, the Browns “prefer to keep Kareem Hunt” with five hours to go until the deadline. Hunt’s touches went back up to 15 in their win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football, and the Browns likely do not risk an injury on a significant amount of snaps if they intended to trade him.

They could still get an offer that exceeds the value of a nine-game rental of a running back, however. For now, it looks like the Browns will breeze past the trade deadline without much activity.
