WATCH: Caleb Williams connects with DJ Moore, Cole Kmet at Bears OTAs

Caleb Williams connects with his new veteran teammates, including DJ Moore and Cole Kmet, in these Bears OTA clips.

The Chicago Bears kicked off organized team activities this week at Halas Hall, where they conducted two voluntary practices on Monday and Tuesday.

Before the Bears return to the field Thursday for their third practice, the team’s social accounts released some quick videos from the first two days.

That included a first look at rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who was dropping dimes to his new veteran teammates including receiver DJ Moore and tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett.

There was also a glimpse of third-year cornerback Kyler Gordon during drills.

The Bears will continue OTAs on Thursday (with media in attendance) before additional practices May 28-29 and May 31. They’ll wrap things up with mandatory minicamp on June 4-6 before breaking for the summer ahead of training camp in mid-July.

The Chicago Bears kicked off organized team activities this week at Halas Hall, which has consisted of two voluntary (and closed) practices on Monday and Tuesday.

We finally got a first glimpse of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams in action throwing to his veteran teammates in this first video from OTAs, where Williams scrambles and drops a dime to tight end Gerald Everett with cornerback Kyler Gordon in coverage.

It’s the first of what’s sure to be many plays by Chicago’s No. 1 overall pick, who has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal between DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet and Everett.

We also caught a first glimpse at All-Pro cornerback Jaylon Johnson sporting his new number.

Caleb Williams could be different than those Bears QBs who came before him

The hope is Caleb Williams can be the franchise quarterback that the Bears have been craving for a long time.

The Chicago Bears are expecting a lot out of Caleb Williams, who they selected first overall in the 2024 NFL draft. They could have had any player that they wanted, and they went with him. The hope is that he can be the franchise quarterback that this team has been craving for a long time.

There are a lot of Bears fans that feel like they’ve been down this road before. Whether it was Mitchell Trubisky or Justin Fields. While those guys had their moments, they didn’t prove to be the long-term answer.

Williams needs to be different than those who came before him. He just might be, too. Williams showed a lot of promise during his college career at USC (and Oklahoma before that). He’s also the undisputed number one guy heading into his rookie season.

This is also a much better situation for Williams than his predecessors. This might be the greatest collection of weapons that a No. 1 pick quarterback has ever had. Chicago already had receiver DJ Moore and tight end Cole Kmet on the roster. But they added receivers Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze, along with running back D’Andre Swift. This offense is going to score some points if Williams plays well.

Williams has a chance to be different, and he knows it. If he embraces this and uses his talents to his advantage, the Bears will be a great football team in short order. Don’t let the past dictate the future.

Predict Bears’ win-loss record for 2024 NFL season

The Bears have revealed their 2024 schedule. What are your early predictions for Chicago’s record?

The Chicago Bears have revealed their 2024 NFL schedule, which features some intriguing matchups in a favorable slate. The Bears’ over/under total has been set at 8.5, according to DraftKings.

In addition to facing their NFC foes twice, the Bears will play the NFC West and AFC South next season, which includes home games against the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars, as well as away games against the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans.

With Chicago finishing fourth in the NFC North, they’ll also face the same-place finisher in the NFC East and NFC South. With that additional 17th game, they’ll host the AFC East same-place finisher.

For the third consecutive season, the Bears will open the season at home when they host the Tennessee Titans in a matchup that will feature Caleb Williams’ rookie debut in front of the Chicago faithful. The Bears will close the season against the Packers at Lambeau Field, for a second straight year, in a game that could have playoff implications.

The Bears have three prime-time games: Week 2 at Houston Texans, Week 15 at Minnesota Vikings and Week 17 vs. Seattle Seahawks. They’ll also face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving and host the Jacksonville Jaguars in London during Week 6.

While it’s certainly too early to predict where the Bears will finish in 2024, that’s exactly why this schedule release exists. Now that you’ve had time to digest Chicago’s 2024 slate, what do you think the Bears will finish this season?

What’s the latest with the Chicago Bears?

The Bears unveiled their 2024 regular-season schedule this week, where we finally learned when Chicago will face their opponents. That includes kicking off Week 1 at home against the Tennessee Titans, three prime-time games, a holiday game and no division games until Week 11.

Here’s a look at the most recent and relevant Bears stories for the week of May 12.

The importance of the Bears’ Week 1 opener vs. Titans

The Bears have a chance to start the 2024 season on a high note with a win against the Titans in Week 1.

The Chicago Bears will open the 2024 season against the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field, which gives Chicago a chance to start the season on the right foot.

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams will make his NFL debut in a favorable matchup, which already feels like a must win during the early part of their schedule.

On the other side is quarterback Will Levis, who the Titans drafted in 2023. The Bears’ defense has an opportunity to make an early statement, which would support the new-look offense on its first day in action.

Chicago needs to get a win in this game. It would set a positive tone for the start of the season during what’s a favorable slate. Last season, the Bears’ suffered a rough loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, which set the tone for what was a rough first half of the 2023 season.

Opening with a win against Tennessee would also help going into a big Sunday Night Football matchup against C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in Week 2. That will be a huge test against an elite team. Chicago can’t afford a possible 0-2 start.

Bears sign EDGE Austin Booker to rookie contract

The Bears signed fifth-round edge rusher Austin Booker to a four-year rookie deal.

The Chicago Bears have signed edge rusher Austin Booker to his four-year rookie contract, the team announced Thursday.

Chicago selected Booker in the fifth round in the 2024 NFL draft. While they originally traded away their fifth-round selection to the Buffalo Bills, they traded back into the draft to land Booker (receiving their original selection from Buffalo).

“You turn on the tape and you see everything you need to see,” Bears scout John Syty said. “I mean, the way this kid wins, the way he’s able to win with speed outside, the way he’s able to come underneath with the counter and then deceptively one of his best attributes is this kid’s ability to win with power.”

Booker has a rather limited sample size having played just one full season (with one start) at Kansas. But he has high upside with explosiveness, athleticism, length and pass rush talent that makes him a really appealing developmental prospect in Matt Eberflus’ defense.

Booker is the third member of Chicago’s five-player 2024 draft class to sign his rookie contract. The team previously signed punter Tory Taylor and offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie to their rookie deals.
