Top-ranked Tennessee victorious against Old Dominion.

The top-ranked Tennessee men’s tennis team kept its perfect record intact with a 4-0 victory over Old Dominion in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament at Knoxville’s Goodfriend Tennis Center.

The Volunteers (5-0) set the tone early and made short work of the Monarchs (1-2).

Tennessee claimed the double by sweeping two matches.

The Vols’ tandem of Pat Harper and Adam Walton defeated Younes Lalami and Oliver Nolan, 6-1.

Tennessee notched another doubles win as Johannas Monday and Martim Prada teamed to defeat Francois Le Tallec and Yevhen Sirous, 6-2.

In singles, Monday defeated Lalami, 6-1, 6-4. Monday, a second-year player for the Vols, is ranked No. 10 in the nation. Lalami is the No. 91 player in the nation.

Emile Hudd, No. 51 in the nation, defeated Codie Van Schalkwyk, 6-1, 6-1.

Freshman Shunsuke Mitsui defeated Nolan, 6-1, 6-3. Mitsui is ranked No. 125 in the nation.

No. 1 Tennessee defeats Wake Forest to remain undefeated.

The top-ranked Tennessee men’s tennis team remains undefeated following a home victory Tuesday against No. 10 Wake Forest.

After conceding a doubles point, No. 1 Tennessee rallied for a 4-3 win. The match was the Demon Deacons’ first loss of the 2022 spring dual season.

Wake Forest (7-1) claimed a doubles point by winning two out of three matches.

The Vols’ lone doubles victory came when Emile Hudd and Shunsuke Mitsui defeated Eduardo Nava and Jurabek Karimov, 6-1.

In singles competition, Tennessee’s Adam Walton, the No. 39 player in the country, defeated Nava, 6-3, 6-1.

Sophomore Johannus Monday, ranked No. 10, defeated Karimov, 6-1, 6-1.

Hudd and Mitsui also captured singles wins for the Vols (4-0).

Georgia defeats Ice Vols

Georgia defeats the Ice Vols.

Tennessee opened its 2022 spring semester schedule with a 9-2 loss to Georgia Saturday at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

The Ice Vols faced a 4-1 deficit at the end of the first period.

Drew King and Pete Bunch each scored a goal for Tennessee.

King, a native of Marietta, Georgia, is a junior for the Ice Vols. He has 12 goals for Tennessee this season. He recorded 20 goals last year after scoring 10 as a freshman.

Tennessee will host Georgia Sunday at 2:30 p.m. EST. Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker will make the honorary puck drop.

Vols set personal best marks at Hokie Invitational.

In the second meet of the 2022 indoor track season, Tennessee recorded top marks on the first day of the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia Friday.

In the 600-meter run, Alex Kay won the event with a time of 1:18.41, Joe Hoots was second (1:18.63) and Justin Swann came in sixth (1:20.22). All runners recording personal best times.

In the 1-mile run, three Tennessee athletes had career-best times as Tim Thacker completed the race in 4 minutes, 5.00 seconds. Matthew McMillan recorded a time of 4:22.89 and Fuji Anday finished in 4:19.50.

Eli Nahom had a personal best time of 8:27.22 in the 3,000-meter run.

The first half of the pentathlon was contested Friday and Ethan Robinson posted career-best marks including the 60-meter run (7.07 seconds), the long jump (6.74 meters), the shot put (11.40 meters) and the high jump (1.91 meters).

Peyton Davis posted his personal best efforts in the 60-meter run (7.40) and the high jump (1.97 meters).

Yariel Soto had a personal best effort in the long jump with a leap of 7.40 meters.

The heptathlon and the meet conclude Saturday.

Ice Vols set to host Georgia

The Ice Vols are set to host Georgia.

The Ice Vols will resume its 2021-22 season Saturday.

Tennessee will host Georgia at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum in the first contest of a two-game series. Puck drop is slated for 10:45 p.m. EST.

The Ice Vols and Bulldogs will play following the Knoxville Ice Bears’ game against Vermilion on Star Wars night. Puck drop is slated for 7:35 p.m. EST.

Tennessee and Georgia will conclude their series Sunday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Troy Fleming added to Knoxville Catholic’s staff

Former Vol Troy Fleming added to Knoxville Catholic’s staff.

Troy Fleming has been hired to Knoxville Catholic High School’s coaching staff.

Fleming will serve as defensive line coach under second-year head coach Korey Mobbs.

“Coach Fleming will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the young men in our program as he dons the green and gold,” Mobbs said.

Fleming played running back for the Vols from 1999-2004. He was selected No. 191 in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL draft by Tennessee.

The former Vol played for Tennessee (2004-05), Denver (2007) and Carolina (2008) during his NFL career.

Dave Parrington adds Colin Zeng to Tennessee staff.

Tennessee diving head coach Dave Parrington announced the addition of Colin Zeng to his his coaching staff as a graduate assistant.

Zeng is a former Tennessee diver.

He was a three-time NCAA champion and two-time CSCAA Diver of the Year. Zeng is the only Vols’ diver to ever win a national championship in two different events.

He holds the program record in the 3-meter (495.15) and the platform (507.15). Zeng is the only UT diver to post a mark of 500 or more in program history.

Zeng was a two-time SEC Diver of the Year with the Vols and won medals at the conference championships.

Prior to his arrival at Tennessee, Zeng competed for three years with Ohio State, where he was a Big Ten and NCAA champion.

Tennessee ranked No. 1 in ITA rankings

Tennessee is ranked No. 1 in the ITA rankings.

Tennessee men’s tennis team is ranked No. 1 by the International Tennis Association.

The Vols were ranked No. 4 in the ITA’s spring preseason poll.

Tennessee has defeated then-No. 5 TCU and victories against East Tennessee State.

The Vols won at TCU as junior Angel Diaz defeated Lui Maxted in three sets.

Diaz, who has a perfect 2-0 record in singles dual play in 2022, notched a comeback victory over Maxted, ranked No. 33 nationally.

Maxted won the first set before Diaz rallied back to claim a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win.

Other Vols with singles wins against TCU include Adam Walton, Johannus Monday and Shunsuke Mitsui.

Tennessee cancels Tennessee Tech match and reschedules contest against Wake Forest.

The Vols were scheduled to host a dual match Jan. 23 at Goodfriend Tennis Center against Tennessee Tech.

The scheduled dual match has been canceled. A second match against Wake Forest has been rescheduled for Jan. 25 with first serve slated for 1 p.m. EST.

The match will be the 18th meeting between Tennessee and the Demon Deacons. The series dates back to 1975.

The Vols will enter its dual match with a 3-0 record. Tennessee swept a double header against East Tennessee State and were victorious at TCU.

Tennessee victorious at TCU.

No. 4 Tennessee (3-0) claimed its first road victory of the spring season, defeating No. 5 TCU, 4-3, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Tennessee clinched its win when junior Angel Diaz outlasted No. 33 Lui Maxted, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The Horned Frogs (2-1) claimed a doubles point winning a pair of matches from Tennessee.

The third doubles match was unfinished when Diaz clinched the win for Tennessee. TCU’s tandem of Juan Carlos Aguilar and Tomas Jirousek had a 6-5 win against Mark Wallner and Johannus Monday.

In singles, Walton, ranked 39th in the country, defeated the Horned Frogs’ Luc Fomba, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

No. 10 Monday downed Aguilar, 6-2, 6-4, and Shunsuke Mitsui claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jirosek.
