Mike Williams hasn’t been seen at Jets practices, here’s why

Mike Williams hasn’t been seen at Jets practices, here’s why

Mike Williams does not appear to be very happy with the New York Jets over the past few days.

Now the cherry on top is Williams sitting out practices this week due to “personal reasons.”

Williams, 30, signed a one-year contract in New York this offseason. He was coming off of an ACL injury last year with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The year prior, Williams had 63 catches for 895 yards and four touchdowns. The Jets signed him to a base salary of $10 million for the season in hopes of getting those numbers… and now he’s clearly going to be departing the team soon.

Late in New York’s 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Williams was blamed by quarterback Aaron Rodgers for an interception he threw.

A day later, the Jets traded for Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro receiver Davante Adams.

Those things are publicly known, let alone what might have happened behind closed doors that we don’t and may never know about.

Regardless, Williams’ frustrations, the team’s, or both have evidently hit a point of no return with him staring at a departure. That could be a trade if a suitor is found… or him being cut from that roster.

Report: Jets could face new starting quarterback vs. Steelers

Report: Jets could face new starting quarterback vs. Steelers

Potentially lost the everything surrounding the Jets this week is this: They might face a new quarterback new week.

In the midst of trading for All-Pro receiver Davante Adams on Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said a head-turning comment.

Per Steelers Wire, their head coach Mike Tomlin said veteran quarterback Russell Wilson is “in consideration” to start against the Jets in Week 7. The two teams faceoff on “Sunday Night Football” next weekend.

“We’re looking hard at it this week and it’s in consideration,” Tomlin said in his weekly press conference. “I’m sure at some point [he’ll get first-team reps]. I hadn’t decided who gets the ball first. That sort of minutiae hasn’t been decided.”

It remains to be seen who does start against the Jets. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Wilson will be the one getting first-team reps in practice this week over Justin Fields who led the Steelers to a 4-2 start to the season.

Jets acquiring Raiders WR Davante Adams for conditional 3rd-round pick

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are back together again as the Jets are acquiring the All-Pro WR from the Raiders

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are back together again. The New York Jets are acquiring the two-time All-Pro receiver from the Las Vegas Raiders in a blockbuster trade.

In exchange for Adams, the Jets will send the Raiders a conditional third-round pick that can become a second-rounder based on performance, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Adams requested a trade from the Raiders two weeks ago and Las Vegas has finally found a team willing to (almost) meet its asking price of a second-round pick.

Adams has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury. He has 18 catches for 209 yards and one touchdown so far this season, struggling to get any sort of consitent play from Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew.

In New York, Adams reunites with Rodgers. The two played together in Green Bay from 2014-2021, a period in which Adams was a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro.

Adams, 31, still has two years left on his contract after this season, with cap hits of $44.1 million in 2025 and $45.1 million in 2026. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Jets will take on all of Adams’ remaining contract.

New York, which is sitting at 2-4 following Monday night’s loss to the Bills, was looking for a spark on offense and now gets one with the addition of Adams.

Haason Reddick’s agency leave him amid Jets holdout

Haason Reddick’s agency leave him amid Jets holdout

Haason Reddick no longer has an agent while he’s right in the middle of holding out from the New York Jets.

In April, the Jets acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2026. Since then, he has refused to report over failed contract negotiations with the team.

With no end in sight, Reddick’s agency has left him according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

Clearly this is a weird look for Reddick.

Reddick’s holdout has cost him plenty. Through various fines including $800K per game missed, it has totaled $9 million.

In August, Reddick requested a trade and the Jets quickly said that’s not going to happen.

After New York fired head coach Robert Saleh this week, team owner Woody Johnson did mention Reddick during his phone conference. Johnson urged Reddick to come out to the team facilities and work this out.

Now Reddick might have to do so alone since he does not have an agent.

Report: Robert Saleh does not plan on coaching in 2024 after Jets firing

Report: Robert Saleh does not plan on coaching in 2024 after Jets firing

Don’t expect to see Robert Saleh on an NFL sideline any time soon.

Following the Jets’ 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season and after a 23-17 loss to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in London, the team fired Saleh. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was named interim head coach.

Saleh had his faults but his bread and butter is defense. He was still good at that and it would not be surprising to see a team scoop him up.

However, a report indicates Saleh is going to wait a bit.

According to Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 45-year-old is going to wait until at least the 2025 season to take a new job. He’s planning on taking the rest of the 2024 season off.

Once next year’s coaching cycle comes around, Saleh’s name is undoubtedly be a hot one relating to defensive coordinator jobs.

Under Saleh’s watch, New York’s defense ranked last in the NFL in yards allowed per game in his first season with the team. However, the unit rebounded to finish fourth and third in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The Jets currently rank third (255.8 YPG).

Time will tell if he ever gets a sniff at a head coaching gig again.

Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich strips Nate Hackett of play calling, goes to Todd Downing

Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich strips Nate Hackett of play calling, goes to Todd Downing

The New York Jets will no longer have Nate Hackett calling their plays on offense.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has announced that Hackett has been stripped of his duties as the play caller for the team’s offense. During Jets’ 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season, that side of the ball has struggled in a big way, leading to the firing of head coach Robert Saleh earlier this week.

It had been reported that Saleh had been considering making changes of his own to the coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball, but he never got the opportunity to do so before being dismissed.

Evidently, Ulbrich had something similar in mind.

With Hackett no longer calling the plays, passing-game coordinator Todd Downing will now do so. The same prior mentioned report on Saleh said he wanted to make this same move.

Hackett will remain with the team but will have a different role moving forward.

Ulbrich announcing the change can be found below:

Reports indicate Robert Saleh would make change on offense before firing

Reports indicate Robert Saleh would make change on offense before firing:

The finer details are a bit conflicting, however, it appears that Robert Saleh was aiming toward making some sort of change to the New York Jets’ offense before being fired by the team.

On Tuesday, the Jets decided to move on from Saleh.

Prior to that, reports indicate that Saleh had wanted to make some changes regarding New York’s offense moving forward. That appears to be certain, but exactly what the change would have been is what’s in the gray.

According to CBS Sports, Saleh had been toying with the idea of firing offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett:

But SNY has reported that the move would not have been that drastic. Instead, Saleh was considering taking play-calling duties away from Hackett in favor of Todd Downing, who is the Jets’ passing-game coordinator and quarterbacks coach:

Whichever report holds more truth isn’t all that important, because regardless, it sounds like Hackett was going to be demoted in some capacity. Moving forward, the same could still happen but that’s a decision for Jeff Ulbrich, who was named New York’s interim head coach.

Robert Saleh releases statement after abrupt Jets firing

Robert Saleh releases statement after abrupt Jets firing

Robert Saleh has broken his silence.

Following the New York Jets’ 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season and after a 23-17 loss to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in London, the team fired their head coach

Saleh, who was hired in 2021 and had a 20-36 overall record.

Then a lot of speculation swirled. What security used to escort Saleh from the team’s facility? Would there be bad blood because he reportedly felt “blindsided” by the decision?

From Saleh’s perspective, evidently no.

Saleh, 45, released his first statement since his dismissal. He kept it classy.

Saleh thanked the team and his players. Considering he specifically pointed out the players, it might be true that he did not get an opportunity to address them before he left. However, that’s pure speculation.

Saleh’s full statement released to the media can be found below:

“To the Jets Organization, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many incredible people,” Saleh said in a statement shared with SNY’s Connor Hughes. “I will always be appreciative of the love and support from everyone at 1 Jets Drive.”

“To all of the players, I truly love and appreciate every single one of you. The character of the men in the locker room made coaching you guys the ultimate privilege. Through all the ups and downs, each and every one of you showed up everyday and attacked every moment.

“To my fellow coaches and staff, it has been an honor to work with all of you. Every one of you were “all in” and made sacrifices for one another that will never be forgotten. I wish you all the very best of luck for the remainder of the season.

“To the most passionate fan base in the NFL, thank you for embracing my family. It has been a pleasure calling New York our home and we will forever appreciate all of the memories that were created here.

“With Love and Regard,

“All Gas No Brake!!!”

There were conflicting reports on what happened after the Jets fired Robert Saleh

There were conflicting reports on what happened after the Jets fired Robert Saleh

The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and then a bit of a circus unfolded.

Or did it?

We have conflicting reports.

On Tuesday, Saleh was let go by the Jets after a 2-3 start to the season.  The coach who was hired in 2021 and had a 20-36 overall record. The firing took place amid apparent disagreements with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The team had informed Saleh of their decision in a meeting which included owner Woody Johnson.

Saleh eventually left the building. That’s what happens when you’re fired. But was he escorted by security?

That was reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz and Pro Football Talk:

Doing so seems a bit… unusual. It wouldn’t really be the best look for the Jets, either.

If that’s what happened.

Follow-up reports from ESPN and SNY then stated a bit of the opposite:

The two sides of the reporting seems to be clearly coming from two different sides. Pro-Saleh and Anti-Saleh. Regardless, with this one, we’ll likely never really know exactly what this situation looked like.
