Jaguars place DTs Brian Price, Dontavius Russell on injured reserve

The Jags got a little thinner at the DT spot Sunday after placing Brian Price (knee) and Dontavius Russell (hip) on injured reserve.

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed defensive tackles Brian Price (knee) and Dontavius Russell (hip) on injured reserved the team announced Sunday. With the Jags making the decision to remove both off the active roster, it put them at 78 players upon both transactions.

Price, 26, joined the team last October through their practice squad. In late December, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Jags and looked to be a candidate for the practice squad again this regular season.

Russell, 24, was drafted by the Jags in the seventh-round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Auburn. He participated in three games last season and registered four tackles. With the team losing Al Woods due to his decision to opt-out, Russell had a good chance to make the team so hopefully his injury doesn’t keep him down too long.

Jags CB D.J. Hayden activated off Active/PUP list

The Jags are getting back their highest-graded player (per PFF) back of the PUP list.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew and safety Andrew Wingard weren’t the only players the Jacksonville Jaguars added to the active roster Tuesday morning as one other player joined them. They also got their highest-graded defensive player back off the Active/ Physically Unable to Perform list in nickelback D.J. Hayden.

Hayden, 30, was placed on the Jags’ Active/Physically Unable to Perform list alongside tight end James O’Shaughnessy on August 1. Per coach Doug Marrone, the reason for his placement on the list was because he had a minor procedure done during the offseason, but wasn’t able to see the team doctors in the process to monitor his progress.

“D.J. [Hayden] had a minor procedure done, in the offseason, we knew about it. If we would have been able to bring him in here [he could have rehabbed here] but because of the pandemic we were not able to do that,” Marrone said to the media Monday. “Obviously, we are just being cautious with that and making sure that he’s fine.”

Hayden, who battled a neck/shoulder injury in 2019, will be coming off a solid season where he was able to help in a variety of ways, totaling 41 tackles (five of which were for loss), two sacks,  and six pass breakups. He looked about as good as any starting nickelback in the league, which also helped him to be named to Touchdown Wire’s top-101 players list last week.

With the Jags secondary being young, it’s good to see that Hayden is trending in the right direction. He’ll now be set to take the field with rookie corner C.J. Henderson on one side and Tre Herndon or Rashaan Melvin on the other.

Jaguars inactives: 2 key players to miss season finale

The Jaguars will be without these two veteran leaders as it was announced that both players will be inactive against the Colts Week 17.

In a season filled with adversity and inconsistency, Leonard Fournette and AJ Bouye have been two of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ most reliable players. Unfortunately, the Jaguars will be without these two veteran leaders as it was announced that both players will be inactive against the Indianapolis Colts Week 17.

Fournette, a player often criticized for his injury history, played in 15 regular season games and one could argue he has been the team’s MVP in 2019. The former fourth overall pick has galloped on his way to 1,152 yards rushing as well as 522 yards receiving, both career highs for the young halfback. He has become the team’s best playmaker over the course of the year. However, he announced that he came down with the flu Saturday, which means Ryquell Armstead will start in his place.

Bouye has had quite the season. Early on fans were expecting him to be a cap casualty because of Jalen Ramsey needing a contract extension. That, of course, wouldn’t be the case as Ramsey was dealt to the Los Angeles Rams, catapulting Bouye to the Jags No. 1 corner spot. Overall, the former All-Pro has performed well, covering opposing team’s best receivers. Unfortunately, the team will be without him in their last game of the season as Bouye has been dealing with a wrist injury.

Both injuries definitely don’t help the Jaguars’ cause as they will could surpass their 2018 win total with a win. Still, in a divisional game, crazy things can happen as we’ve already witnessed with the Miami Dolphins upsetting the New England Patriots Week 17.

As for the Colts, here are their inactives for the season finale matchup.

Leonard Fournette, A.J. Bouye to sit in Jags’ regular season finale vs. Colts

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a change in status for two starters on their Week 17 injury report Saturday. Running back Leonard Fournette (illness) was downgraded to doubtful, which means he was believed to have a slim chance to play. However, he …

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a change in status for two starters on their Week 17 injury report Saturday. Running back Leonard Fournette (illness) was downgraded to doubtful, which means he was believed to have a slim chance to play. However, he eventually came out to reveal that he will miss the game due to having the flu.

Cornerback A.J. Bouye was the other player who had a change in status as he was downgraded to out with a wrist injury.

Fournette’s situation sets rookie tailback Ryquell Armstead up for a grand opportunity as he’ll be starting in his first game. He hasn’t received a lot of opportunities with Fournette as the No. 1 tailback and will enter Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with 25 carries for 75 yards and a receiving touchdown.

As for Bouye, rookie Brandon Watson or Parry Nickerson could play in his spot. Nickerson is the most experienced of the two with two starts in his NFL career, while Watson has yet to register a career start.

Gardner Minshew, Leonard Fournette amongst 6 players ruled as questionable vs. Colts

The Jacksonville Jaguars only ruled out one player for their season finale against the Indianapolis Colts in receiver Michael Walker (hamstring), but there were several starters ruled questionable. On the offensive side, Gardner Minshew II (shoulder) and Leonard Fournette (neck) will be game day decisions, while A.J. Bouye (wrist) will be one on the defensive side.

Fournette and Walker didn’t practice Friday, however, Bouye and Minshew were limited. That’s likely not a good sign for Fournette, who has played in all of the Jags’ games this year and has done a good job staying healthy. If he’s unable to play, rookie Ryquell Armstead and Devine Ozigbo are the only two other tailbacks on the roster, while Nick Foles would replace Minshew and Brandon Watson or Parry Nickerson would get an opportunity in Bouye’s place.

Another key player who surfaced on the injury report was receiver Dede Westbrook (neck/shoulder), who didn’t practice Friday after fully participating Wednesday and Thursday. If he can’t play, the Jags will have DJ Chark Jr., Chris Conley, Keelan Cole, C.J. Board available at the receiver position.

As for the Indianapolis Colts, they ruled two players out in cornerback Quincy Wilson and tailback Jordan Wilkins. However, it hasn’t been revealed as to what players have been ruled questionable, but we’ll provide an update on their full report when it becomes available.

RB Leonard Fournette, WR Michael Walker both sit out of Jags’ practice session Thursday

The Jacksonville Jaguars had two players sit out of practice Thursday in receiver Michael Walker (hamstring) and tailback Leonard Fournette (neck). The session marked Walker’s second consecutive day of missing practice, while Fournette was limited on Wednesday.

Aside from those two, 13 players surfaced on the injury report, 12 of whom were limited. Receiver Dede Westbrook (neck/shoulder) was the only player  who was a full participant on the day.

The starters who were limited included quarterback Gardner Minshew II (right shoulder), Cam Robinson (knee), Brandon Linder (knee), and DJ Chark Jr. (ankle) on the offensive end. On defense the starters who were limited included Taven Bryan (elbow), Abry Jones (elbow), Calais Campbell (back/shoulder), A.J. Bouye (wrist) and DJ Hayden (knee). Rotational pass rusher Josh Allen (shoulder) was also limited.

As for the Indianapolis Colts, their full injury report for Thursday is as follows:

Jaguars inactives: DJ Chark set to play vs. Falcons

As expected, DJ Chark will take the field with his comrades Sunday as he wasn’t listed amongst the team’s seven in active players. That’s certainly good news for the Jags, who will need all their best hands on deck to keep pace with Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons’ high-powered passing game.

Chark missed the Jags’ last game against the Oakland Raiders with an ankle injury he sustained the week prior against the Los Angeles Chargers. It initially looked to be a concerning injury as he left the facility in a boot, however, he resumed running and cutting this past Monday and was limited in practice all week.

Chark’s status is also a big deal because he’s just 44 yards away from 1,000 on the season. If he’s able to hit that number, he’ll be the first receiver to do it since Allen Robinson in did in 2015. He’d also join Robinson as the youngest player to achieve the feat at 23 years of age.

As for the Falcons inactives, they are as follows:

DJ Chark ruled questionable vs. Falcons

The Jacksonville Jaguars had full participation at practice for the second consecutive day and only one player surface on their final injury report. That player was receiver DJ Chark Jr., who was limited all week. Chark, who injured his ankle …

The Jacksonville Jaguars had full participation at practice for the second consecutive day and only one player surface on their final injury report. That player was receiver DJ Chark Jr., who was limited all week.

Chark, who injured his ankle against the Los Angeles Chargers Week 13, began cutting and running this week. That was excellent news for the fanbase when considering he was seen leaving Week 13’s game in a boot.

With the Falcons passing defense being ranked 24rd and their offense being one of the top passing units, the Jags could use Chark desperately to help them in a battle that could get ugly if the Jags start slow.

The Jags’ Week 15 opponents, the Atlanta Falcons, only had one player to surface in the status column and it was guard James Carpenter (concussion), who was ruled out for Sunday and eventually placed on injured reserve. However, starters Julio Jones (shoulder),  Ricardo Allen (shoulder) and kicker Younghoe Koo (left foot) all will take the field Sunday.

Injury report: Jags have full participation in practice Thursday

The Jags didn’t have a single player miss practice Thursday ad veterans Brandon Linder and Calais Campbell returned to the field.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had two players to miss practice Wednesday in center Brandon Linder (knee) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell (back) but both returned to the field on a limited basis, giving the team full participation.

The injury report for Thursday overall was pretty easy to breakdown as receiver Dede Westbrook (neck/shoulder) was the lone member who was a full participant and the rest of the players listed were limited. Thursday marked his second consecutive day of fully participating and it appears he’ll do the same Friday.

Receiver DJ Chark Jr., who missed the Jags’ last game, was once again limited due to the ankle injury he sustained Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers. In all probability, that’s a good sign that he may be ready to take the field Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew II (shoulder), cornerbacks A.J. Bouye (hamstring) and D.J. Hayden (knee), offensive tackle Cam Robinson (knee), and pass-rusher Josh Allen (shoulder) were some other notables who were listed on the injury report.

On the Falcons’ end, receiver Julio Jones (shoulder) and safety Ricardo Allen remained limited just as they were Wednesday. However, kicker Younghoe Koo was upgraded too full.

Their full injury report can be seen here.

WR DJ Chark returns to practice on a limited basis Wednesday

After missing Week 14’s game against the Oakland Raiders, it appears receiver DJ Chark is trending in the right direction with his ankle injury. The second-year receiver returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, which could point to him playing against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.

Chark sustained his ankle injury Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth quarter and it resulted in him leaving the game in a boot. However, he resumed cutting and running Monday, so it was expected that he’d practice Wednesday.

The Jags only had two players to sit out of Wednesday’s practice session in Calais Campbell (back) and Brandon Linder (knee), who typically don’t practice to start off the week. Both will probably gradually be brought back and will be ready to go for Sunday’s game.

The Jags had just one full participant on the day and that was receiver Dede Westbrook. Cornerbacks A.J. Bouye and D.J. Hayden, offensive tackle Cam Robinson, and pass-rusher Josh Allen were some other notables who were listed as limited.

As for the Falcons, Julio Jones (shoulder), Younghoe Koo (left foot), and Ricardo Allen were amongst the notables to surface on their injury report. Their full report can be seen here.
