Jaguars open WR Devin Duvernay’s injured reserve practice window

The Jaguars opened wide receiver and return specialist Devin Duvernay’s 21-day injured reserve practice window on Wednesday.

Jacksonville placed Duvernay on its injured reserve Oct. 9 after he suffered a hamstring injury against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, sidelining their primary kickoff and punt returner for at least four games.

Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington and running back Tank Bigsby have largely filled in for Duvernay in those special teams roles.

Duvernay joined the Jaguars on a two-year, $8.5 million free-agency deal this offseason after spending the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens.

Over the first five weeks of the season, Duvernay returned five kickoffs for 20 yards per return, seven punts for 11.6 yards per return, caught one pass for a one-yard loss and rushed three times for 10 yards.

Duvernay logged 94 receptions for 898 yards and five touchdowns, 27 rushing attempts for 219 yards and one score, and averaged 24.5 yards per kickoff return with two touchdowns and 12.8 yards per punt return with the Ravens.

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence to begin Week 10 limited

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence to begin Week 10 limited

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will begin Week 10 limited in practice as he recovers from a left, non-throwing shoulder injury suffered in Jacksonville’s Sunday loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Doug Pederson shared with reporters on Wednesday.

Lawrence took a hit to his left shoulder by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun on a second-quarter scramble but did not miss a play and finished the game., He completed 16-of-31 passes for 169 yards, tossed two interceptions and rushed for two touchdowns.

Pederson described Lawrence as “sore” following Week 9 and expressed uncertainty about the quarterback’s status for Jacksonville’s Week 10 home matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

“Can’t answer that today, not sitting here Wednesday, no,” Pederson remarked.

Lawrence stated shortly thereafter that he hopes to play on Sunday.

“That’s the goal. I’m doing everything that I can to be out there,” Lawrence said.

“And like when I’ve gotten banged up in the past, it’s like, I just try to do everything I can during the week to prepare myself to play Sunday and just put as much time as possible into that, and getting healthy. That’s the way my mind is right now.”

Lawrence missed the first start of his NFL career in Week 17 last season, after injuring his knee in Week 16, his ankle in Week 13, suffering a concussion in Week 15 and hurting his right shoulder in Week 16.

Lawrence has completed 168-of-274 (61.3%) of his passes for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. He has rushed 25 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns.

Jacksonville reunited with former Jaguars backup quarterback C.J. Beathard Wednesday due to Lawrence’s injury, signing Beathard away from the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad.

Jaguars place OL Cooper Hodges on injured reserve

Jaguars place OL Cooper Hodges on injured reserve

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed second-year offensive lineman Cooper Hodges on their injured reserve Monday, effectively ending his season after he suffered a leg injury against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said earlier Monday that Hodges’ injury would “probably” bring his year to an end.

“That was a significant leg injury during the game,” Pederson said Monday. “We’ll miss him.”

Hodges got hurt on Jacksonville’s two-point conversion to make the score 22-16 with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. He was transported to a hospital in Philadelphia after being carted off the field.

From Glen St. Mary, Fla., just outside Jacksonville, Hodges was the Jaguars’ No. 226 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft, out of Appalachian State.

Hodges missed his entire rookie season after dislocating his right kneecap against the Dallas Cowboys during the 2023 preseason. He appeared in nine games this year and made the first start of his career Sunday, filling in for injured starting left guard Ezra Cleveland.

Pederson updates Jaguars OL Cooper Hodges’ ‘significant’ leg injury

Jaguars offensive lineman Cooper Hodges, who made the first start of his NFL career Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, “probably” suffered a season-ending leg injury in the game, Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson revealed on Monday.

Pederson did not offer specifics about the injury.

Hodges went down on Jacksonville’s successful two-point conversion with just over five minutes left in the third quarter and was carted off the field. Pederson said after the game that Hodges was transported to a hospital.

“That was a significant leg injury during the game,” Pederson said Monday. “We’ll miss him.”

Hodges, a seventh-round NFL draft pick by Jacksonville in 2023 and a native of nearby Glen St. Mary, has appeared in nine games with the Jaguars and filled in for left guard Ezra Cleveland against the Eagles and when the starter suffered an ankle injury against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.

Blake Hance, who signed to Jacksonville’s active roster from its practice squad last week, took over at left guard upon Hodges’ exit from the game.

Report: Trio of Jaguars offensive weapons ‘likely’ to play vs. Eagles

Barring any setbacks, the Jaguars expect to have running backs Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring) and Tank Bigsby (ankle) and wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. (chest) available for Jacksonville’s Week 9 matchup against the Eagles in Philadelphia, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Rapoport called each player ‘likely’ to play Sunday, and added that wide receiver Gabe Davis (shoulder) “appears to be more of a long-shot.”

Bigsby, Thomas and Davis each suffered injuries in Jacksonville’s 30-27 loss to the Green Bay Packers at home last week, while Etienne missed Weeks 7-8 after hurting his hamstring in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears.

Bigsby leads the Jaguars with 493 yards and four touchdowns rushing over 85 attempts this season, with Etienne having compiled 230 yards and two touchdowns over 56 carries.

Thomas, the Jaguars’ first-round rookie sensation, paces Jacksonville with 33 receptions for 573 yards and five touchdowns this year. Davis, who has battled shoulder and knee injuries throughout the campaign, has logged 18 catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns.

Jaguars injury updates: Thomas, Scherff, Etienne game-time decisions

Jaguars starters, running back Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring), wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. (chest) and Gabe Davis (shoulder), and right guard Brandon Scherff (knee) enter Jacksonville’s Week 9 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles as game-time decisions, per head coach Doug Pederson.

Starting left guard Ezra Cleveland is “probably not going to make it to this game” after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers, Pederson said.

Like Cleveland, Thomas, Davis and Scherff suffered their injuries against the Packers on Sunday.

Pederson suggested Thomas, who leads Jacksonville with 573 receiving yards and five touchdowns, has handled his chest injury well in practice this week but noted the Jaguars want to be cautious with his injury.

“BT’s done well,” Pederson said. “Look, you know, still need to be cautious with that. We’re gonna make sure that he’s — he’s not going to be 100%, obviously. You know, and nobody is at this time. But we don’t want a setback obviously with him, any of the guys.”

Etienne has missed Jacksonville’s last two games after hurting his hamstring in Week 6 against the Chicago Bears.

Etienne’s replacement at running back the last two weeks, Tank Bigsby, injured his ankle against the Packers and has been limited in practice this week. Bigsby leads the Jaguars with 493 yards and four touchdowns rushing this season.

“He’s fine, he’s fine,” Pederson said of Bigsby. “Ankle injuries, they’re tough. Especially running backs but for all players. He battled through a little bit yesterday and we’ll see where he’s at today.”

Pederson shared that Jacksonville safety Andrew Wingard, who is currently on the injured reserve but returned to practice last week, has progressed this week and could be activated from the reserve before the Jaguars face the Eagles.

“Dewey’s Dewey. He had a better week,” Pederson said. “We’re gonna see today and make a decision today.”

Pederson issues ‘day-to-day’ tags for handful of Jaguars injuries

Pederson issues ‘day-to-day’ tags for handful of Jaguars injuries

The Jaguars are banged up ahead of their Week 9 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. They are navigating injuries to six starters suffered in Jacksonville’s Sunday loss to the Green Bay Packers, to pair with starting running back Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring) missing the team’s last two games.

Cornerback Ronald Darby (hip), wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. (chest) and Gabe Davis (shoulder), and offensive guards Brandon Scherff (knee) and Ezra Cleveland (ankle) evaded long-term injury in Week 8.

However, most of the group enters Week 9 “day-to-day,” per Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson.

“Darby’s good, Darby will be out there. [Thomas], we’ve just got to wait and see. He’s going to be day-to-day. Gabe’s going to be day-to-day. [Scherff is] day-to-day. Ezra, day-to-day, ankle. We’ll see how he is at the end of the week,” Pederson said.

The sixth starter to go down against the Packers, wide receiver Christian Kirk, suffered a season-ending broken collarbone, which was reported late Sunday.

Pederson suggested Etienne, who the head coach considered a game-time decision for each of Jacksonville’s last two games, is inching closer to returning to play this week.

“Yeah, should get him back,” Pederson said. “Looking forward to getting him out there and getting some reps, see how he feels.”

As Jacksonville kicks off its week of practice before facing Philadelphia, Pederson said the Jaguars are leaning on the development of their roster depth this past offseason as they manage their battered lineup.

“Next man up. I mean honestly, it’s easy as that,” Pederson said. “You know, the games are still going to come and the league is still going to continue on, and we’re going to continue on.

“We’ve got to coach. That’s why we develop guys in the offseason, you know, for opportunities like this. So, whether it’s a young player, a rookie, a vet or a practice squad elevation, we’re going to continue to coach everybody and get them prepared for each week.”

Doug Pederson addresses Jaguars OT swap vs. Packers

Doug Pederson addresses Jaguars OT swap vs. Packers

The Jaguars made a surprising change to their offensive line against the Packers in Week 8, opting to play Walker Little at left tackle over the position’s eight-season starter, Cam Robinson, despite the latter player being active and available.

Robinson spent most of last week in the NFL’s concussion protocol but was cleared in time for the game and was observed in pads before kickoff. Little filled in for Robinson after he suffered his concussion against the New England Patriots and held onto the job against the Green Bay Packers.

Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson mentioned Monday that he will continue to evaluate Little and Robinson in practice this week before determining who will start at left tackle against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 9.

“Undecided right now,” Pederson said Monday. “After the first couple series [Little] settled in and did some good things. We’ll see how it goes this week.”

But this story is about more than just an in-season position battle, especially as the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline approaches, next Tuesday.

Mike Dempsey, the host of Jaguars Today on 1010XL, the Jaguars’ flagship radio station, reported Monday that Robinson was informed he would not start in Week 8 right before the game.

It was Jacksonville offensive line coach Phil Rauscher, not Pederson, who informed Robinson of the move, per Dempsey. He added that Robinson expressed frustration with the decision at the time.

“What I’m told is that Cam Robinson was pretty surprised not to be starting yesterday, and that he found out that he wasn’t starting from his offensive line coach, not his head coach. You know, he’s been a starter here for a long time, and may have voiced his displeasure about that decision,” Dempsey said.

Dempsey made the point that when the Jaguars lost left guard Ezra Cleveland for the rest of the Packers game due to an ankle injury, Jacksonville kept Robinson on the bench rather than utilize his experience, even though Little has playing experience at guard.

Second-year Jaguars lineman Cooper Hodges, who had one career offensive snap before Week 8, was inserted at guard instead.

“And you noticed later in the game, Ezra Cleveland leaves, you’re thinking, ‘Well, I know Walker Little’s not a great guard necessarily. But is our best option Cooper Hodges or is it to slide Walker Little in and put Cam Robinson, who has been your starter all year until he got a concussion last week?’ ” Dempsey pondered.

“And on top of that, Doug Pederson when asked about [injured running back] Travis Etienne Jr. was heard to say you can’t lose your job because of injury. Isn’t that how Walker Little got in, because of injury last week? So that’s a situation I think to keep an eye on over the next several days … I don’t know of anything in the works or anything like that. It just seems to me that, it wouldn’t surprise me if we got a change of scenery.”

Pederson denied knowledge of a spat between Robinson and Rauscher when asked about the interaction on Monday, suggesting he was unaware of any argument.

“Did you see one?” Pederson asked the inquiring reporter, who said they were also informed about the conversation. “Well, anytime you have a conversation, there’s words exchanged. No, that’d be news to me.”

Time will tell if Jacksonville and Robinson could be in for a split. But at a minimum, the Jaguars are currently considering their options at left tackle, with both Robinson and Little in the final season of their contracts with the club, the latter on his rookie deal.

Both have something to play for if they intend to stick with the Jaguars.

Jaguars WR Christian Kirk addresses season-ending injury

The Jaguars lost wide receiver Christian Kirk to a season-ending injury for a second consecutive season this past Sunday, with their starting slot going down with a broken collarbone which requires surgery.

Kirk shared a message with Jaguars fans via Instagram Tuesday, promising to return to football “better than ever” once he recovers from his latest hurt.

Defining moments like this in our lives provide an opportunity to show who we are in our core. The “obstacle” is always the way, and that’s how I choose to attack it. My journey is far from over in this league, and know I’ll be back better than ever.

To Duval, my teammates, coaches, and family, I’m sorry that I won’t be out there for the rest of the season. I’ve loved every moment of being apart of this organization, and hopefully will spend many more Sundays in a Jags uniform.

I love this game more than anything.. I promise you will see the best version of myself come next season… until then.

Kirk experienced the injury while attempting to catch a pass on 3rd and 11 in the fourth quarter against Green Bay on Sunday. He landed on his left shoulder as Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper fell on top of him attempting to make a tackle.

Last season, Kirk suffered a season-ending core muscle injury in Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kirk finished the 2024 season with 27 receptions for 379 yards and one touchdown, bringing his three-year, 37-game line with the Jaguars to 168 receptions for 2,274 yards and 12 touchdowns.
