Jacksonville Jaguars second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence was injured on the last play of the first half of a Week 13 game against the Detroit Lions.

Lawrence, 23, was twisted down on a sack and stayed down on the field as time ran out in the second quarter. After an extended period, Lawrence was able to stand and walk off the field on his own.

After halftime, Lawrence exited the tunnel and jogged back to the sideline where he warmed up and continued playing in the second half.

While the Jaguars went to halftime trailing 23-6 against the Lions, Lawrence was playing well early with 124 passing yards on nine completions. On his first drive back in the game, Lawrence led the Jaguars down the field for their only touchdown of the day.

Lawrence struggled in the month of October, but has been playing the best football of his career in the last few weeks. In three games in November, Lawrence threw six touchdown passes with zero interceptions, and completed 76.9 percent of his passes. On Sunday, he added another touchdown without throwing an interception.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard is the Jaguars’ backup quarterback. He started 12 games in four years with the 49ers, but has only thrown two passes in his two seasons with the Jaguars. Beathard warmed up in the second half, but didn’t play until the final minutes of the blowout loss.

Travis Etienne ‘insists’ on playing, but Jaguars will lean on medical staff

Travis Etienne Jr. wants to return to action, but Jaguars coaches say that’s up to the medical staff.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. has made it clear that he feels ready to return to action after missing almost all of Week 12 due to a foot injury. The coaches aren’t making any guarantees, though.

“He certainly insists he’s playing,” Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor said of Etienne on Thursday. “We’re going to trust [vice president of player health Jeff Ferguson] and the medical staff in that department, but that’s something we’ve gone through, it feels like a couple times this season, where a guy is kind of a day-to-day decision.

“We continue to build the plan in hopes that that guy is there, but obviously there’s contingencies for if that guy’s not going to make it.”

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson expressed a similar sentiment Wednesday, telling reporters that the team doesn’t want to put Etienne back in the lineup until the staff is “sure he’s 100 percent.”

Etienne, 23, had only two carries against the Baltimore Ravens before he exited to the locker room. He was ruled questionable to return, but stayed on the sideline for the rest of the game while JaMycal Hasty took the majority of the snaps in the Jaguars backfield.

After the game, Pederson said that Etienne could’ve returned to the game, but Jaguars coaches elected to keep the back on the sideline out of an abundance of caution.

Etienne has 728 rushing yards, 202 receiving yards, and four touchdowns so far this season. He missed his entire rookie season due to a Lisfranc injury that required surgery to repair. Pederson said Monday that Etienne’s current injury is to the same foot, but is unrelated to the Lisfranc joint.

Travis Etienne Jr. says he’ll be back from foot injury in Week 13

Travis Etienne Jr. isn’t too concerned about his foot injury.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. missed almost all of the team’s 28-27 thrilling victory over the Baltimore Ravens due to a foot injury, but he isn’t concerned about his recovery.

“We’ll be straight by next weekend,” Etienne told John Shipley of Jaguar Report after the game Sunday.

Etienne, 23, has been a star for the Jaguars in his second NFL season, at one point stringing together five consecutive games with at least 100 yards from scrimmage. Against the Ravens, Etienne started the game with a three-yard run on the opening possession and was stuffed at the line of scrimmage on the second possession.

After his second carry, Etienne was spotted heading to the locker room accompanied by Jaguars trainers. He was ruled questionable to return and was never officially ruled out by the team, but Etienne never returned and was replaced in the lineup by JaMycal Hasty and Snoop Conner.

Hasty finished the game with 28 rushing yards, 67 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown, while Conner got 11 yards on three carries.

The Jaguars are set to travel to play the Detroit Lions in Week 13 in a meeting of 4-7 teams. The Lions have one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL and are allowing 5.2 yards per carry this season.

Rayshawn Jenkins, Evan Engram limited in Thursday practice

Rayshawn Jenkins was back at practice on a limited basis Thursday.

Safety Rayshawn Jenkins and tight end Evan Engram were both listed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as limited in Thursday practice.

That’s a positive development for Jenkins, who missed the Jaguars’ Wednesday practice as he recovers from a concussion suffered Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Engram was dealing with a back injury in that game and was limited for the second straight day.

Jenkins, 28, has recorded an interception, a tackle for loss, and nine passes defended so far this season. When he was injured in the fourth quarter Sunday, Jenkins was replaced at safety by veteran backup Dewey Wingard.

For the Chiefs, the concern is wide receiver Mecole Hardman who missed a second consecutive practice due to an abdominal injury. Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed was limited Thursday due to a knee injury after practicing fully Wednesday.

Hardman has 25 receptions for 297 yards and already has six touchdowns (four receiving and two rushing) through eight games this season.

Jaguars S Rayshawn Jenkins in concussion protocol after Week 9

Rayshawn Jenkins is in the concussion protocol, says Doug Pederson.

Jacksonville Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins is in the concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in a Week 9 win against the Las Vegas Raiders.

On Monday, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson told reporters that tight end Evan Engram, running back Travis Etienne Jr., and tight end Chris Manhertz all suffered minor injuries, but Jenkins is the only one that’s too concerning.

“Everything that came out of the game, Rayshawn’s the more significant one going into the protocol,” Pederson said.

Jenkins, 28, suffered the injury early in the fourth quarter when he was in on a tackle of Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. He was replaced in the game by backup safety Andrew Wingard, who stayed in for the remainder of the game.

The Jaguars signed Jenkins as a free agent in 2021 to a four-year, $35 million contract. Prior to that, he spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers.

In 23 games with the Jaguars, Jenkins has recorded one interception, 12 passes defended, and 127 tackles.

Jaguars WR Jamal Agnew active in Week 9, Raiders TE Darren Waller out

Jamal Agnew will be back in action after missing the last two weeks.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will have wide receiver and return specialist Jamal Agnew back in action in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Agnew, who was the only player on the Jaguars’ injury report this week, was sidelined the last two weeks with a knee injury suffered in Week 6. He was ruled questionable for Week 9, but did not appear on the team’s list of inactives:

Agnew is the team’s punt and kick returner, and he has two touchdown receptions this season.

The even bigger news Sunday morning is that the Raiders will be without Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller, who was listed as questionable.

Waller suffered a hamstring injury early in Week 5 and has been out of action since. While there was optimism he’d return against the Jaguars, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early Sunday morning that Waller was trending toward sitting out.

In the first four weeks of the season, Waller caught 16 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown.

Broncos QB Russell Wilson says he’s ‘ready to roll’ vs. Jaguars

Russell Wilson says he’ll be back from his hamstring injury this Sunday against the Jaguars.

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was sidelined for the team’s Week 7 loss to the New York Jets and he was limited in practice Wednesday, but you wouldn’t know it by his press conference with reporters ahead of a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I feel great, ready to roll,” Wilson said. “I’m super locked in, ready to get a big win in London. … I feel great, I’ll be ready to rock.”

Wilson, 33, reportedly suffered a partially torn lat muscle earlier in the season, but it was a partially torn hamstring that kept him out against the Jets. On Wednesday, he told reporters that he used the team’s flight to London as an opportunity to work on the injury.

Last week, Wilson was limited in all three of the Broncos’ practices before he was ruled out against the Jets, although he reportedly wanted to play. In his absence, Broncos backup quarterback Brett Rypien started and completed 24 of his 46 passes for 225 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

While it appears unlikely that the Jaguars defense will see Rypien, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett was unwilling to make any guarantees about Wilson’s status on Wednesday, only telling reporters that he’s “trending the right way.”

Jaguars’ Folorunso Fatukasi, Marvin Jones Jr. active vs. Giants

Foley Fatukasi and Marvin Jones Jr. are set to make their returns.

The Jacksonville Jaguars listed four players as questionable Friday, but all of them are active for a Week 7 game against the New York Giants.

That includes defensive lineman Folorunso Fatukasi, who missed the last two weeks due to a quad injury, and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr., who was out last week.

Cornerback Shaquill Griffin and wide receiver Jamal Agnew were both ruled out Friday, but the addition of defensive lineman Adam Gotsis as what appears to be a healthy scratch is somewhat of a surprise.

The Giants’ list of inactives was unsurprising as five players were already ruled out Friday. Outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari was placed on injured reserve Saturday and the other four players listed as out took up over half of the list of inactives.

Added to the list Sunday were safety Jason Pinnock, who was listed as questionable, and linebacker Austin Calitro.

Among the active players for the Giants is safety/linebacker Landon Collins. The three-time Pro Bowler and former Giants first-round pick signed with the team’s practice squad earlier this month, nearly seven months after he was released by the Washington Commanders.

Jaguars hoping to have DL Foley Fatukasi back vs. Giants

Doug Pederson says the Jaguars need “all hands on deck” to stop Saquon Barkley

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Folorunso Fatukasi has been out of action since suffering a quad injury in Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, but Jaguars coach Doug Pederson sounded optimistic about getting him back soon.

“We’ll get him back in practice and hopefully he’s capable and he’s — obviously, he’s day-to-day still — but we’re hoping he makes it to Sunday,” Pederson told reporters Wednesday.

The Jaguars’ run defense struggled without Fatukasi against the Eagles and Houston Texans, allowing 326 rushing yards over the pair of losses. While Jacksonville held the Indianapolis Colts to only 45 rushing yards, the team was without its top two running backs and opted to pass 58 times.

On Sunday, the Jaguars will face the New York Giants who lean heavily on their star running back.

“We need all hands on deck with Saquon [Barkley],” Pederson said of the Giants running back. “I watched this guy for many years run all over of us. He’s one of those backs where he’ll get two, he’ll get three, he’ll get one, maybe a lost yardage play, and then bang, he’ll hit you for 50. That’s just the type of back he is, he’s an explosive running back.”

Through six weeks, Barkley leads the NFL in rushing attempts and he’s only 33 yards behind Nick Chubb for the league lead. Barkley also has 155 receiving yards. The Giants improved to 5-1 last week with a come-from-behind win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Jaguars WR Jamal Agnew day-to-day with knee injury

Jaguars receiver and returner Jamal Agnew suffered a knee injury Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver and return specialist Jamal Agnew suffered a “strain in his knee” and is day-to-day, coach Doug Pederson told reporters Monday.

Agnew, 27, signed with the Jaguars on a three-year, $14.25 million deal in 2021 after recording five return touchdowns in four seasons with the Detroit Lions. In his first season with Jacksonville, Agnew had a kick return for a touchdown and returned a missed field goal for a touchdown.

In addition to his contributions on special teams, Agnew has also transitioned from defensive back to wide receiver and has made an impact on offense.

In a Week 4 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Agnew had an increased role with Zay Jones out of action and he rose to the occasion with 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

On Sunday, Agnew had a 19-yard rush and a five-yard reception, but was absent in the second half. His last play of the game was a 23-yard kick return with about two minutes left in the second quarter.

Through five games, Agnew’s longest return of the year so far was for 27 yards. On offense, he’s rushed for 29 yards and caught seven passes for 78 yards with two touchdowns.
