Taysom Hill hits important milestone with TD vs. Panthers

New Orleans Saints jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill has hit a new personal milestone with his clutch touchdown against the Panthers:

New Orleans Saints jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill has hit a new personal milestone during the team’s Sunday matchup against the Carolina Panthers, now totaling 41 career touchdowns. That ties him for ninth in the team record books with standout running back Pierre Thomas.

Hill came into the game totaling four receptions on seven targets for 23 yards over four appearances so far during the 2024 season. He also had carried the ball 18 times for 97 yards with two touchdowns.

In addition to that, Hill is credited with one forced fumble as well. In this particular game, he’s recorded two receptions for 26 yards with a long of 13 yards. For now, that makes him the team’s leading receiver.

He’s also the team’s second-leading rusher behind running back Alvin Kamara today with four carries for 16 yards and the touchdown.

The Saints currently hold a slight lead over the Panthers at halftime, at 13-10 over the first two quarters of action.

Demario Davis had just three words for his Week 9 Saints pregame speech

Demario Davis had just three words for his Week 9 Saints pregame speech. His team needs to dig deep for a win, even if it’s against the Panthers:

Demario Davis called his New Orleans Saints teammates together for a quick address before kickoff with the Carolina Panthers. It’s a tradition he continued after inheriting the leadership role from Drew Brees, so what did he have to say on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium?

Davis started with just three words.

“Fire, fight, finish,” Davis chanted. He went on to talk about everyone’s motivations,ย  why they put in the hard work to prepare for this game, and what they need to do to come away with a win.

His team needs to dig deep for a win, even if it’s just the Panthers. Nothing isย  guaranteed in the NFL and any team can win on any given Sunday. If they’re going to end this losing streak, it has to start here.

Panthers QB Bryce Young throws TD in 1st drive back as starter in Week 8

Panthers QB Bryce Young stepped up on his very first drive back as the starter under center.

It may have taken 19 starts and a second chance under center, but Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young just manufactured the first opening-series touchdown drive of his career.

With veteran Andy Dalton out due to a sprained right thumb, Young got the starting nod for the 1-6 Panthers here in Week 8. And the 23-year-old didn’t waste too much time making his presence knownโ€”leading a 10-play, 49-yard scoring trek on Carolina’s opening touch of the afternoon.

The possession started on the Denver 49-yard line, thanks to a forced fumble and recovery by defensive lineman Shy Tuttle. The offense took over from there, as Young completed all five of his throws for 39 yards and a touchdown.

That score found the hands of rookie and fellow first-round pick Xavier Legette, who rode around the end zone for six.

WATCH: Taysom Hill forces a safety for the Saints on a botched punt

Taysom Hill made an immediate impact in his first game back from injury. He forced a safety for the Saints after the Chargers botched a punt:

The New Orleans Saints’ defense and special teams started off strong against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8, with their first score of the day coming on a forced safety.

Los Angeles botched the snap on their second punt of the day, and Taysom Hill, who recently returned from injury, forced the punter to cough up the ball after an attempted recovery. That caused the ball to skid out of the endzone for a New Orleans safety, giving them an early 2-0 lead.

The Saints have not had a safety since 2020, which came in their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. They will now look to build off their two point lead throughout the remainder of the matchup, and we will see if they can capitalize off of this rare occurrence.

Panthers fans react to Xavier Legette’s crazy highlight-reel TD catch

Panthers rookie WR Xavier Legette made a crazy TD catch before the break of Sunday’s clash with the Falcons.

Carolina Panthers wideout Xavier Legette hopped back on his horse this afternoon.

The rookie receiver made a phenomenal (and pretty clutch) touchdown catch right before the break of Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Take a look:

Legette’s score, now the second of his NFL career, kept Carolina closeโ€”moving the deficit to 22-17 with seven seconds remaining in the first half. The grab capped off an impressive eight-play, 76-yard driveโ€”one that ate up just 1:35 of clock.

Here’s how Panthers fans are reacting to the crazy catch . . .

WATCH: Cameron Jordan snags his third career interception

Cameron Jordan grabbed a Baker Mayfield interception off of a deflected pass from his teammate Bryan Bresee. It was his third career INT:

The New Orleans Saints got another clutch takeaway near the end of the first half, with Bryan Bresee tipping a pass up into the air and Cameron Jordan pulling it down. It was the third interception thrown by Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, though two of them were deflected passes.

This marked the third interception of Jordan’s career as well, with the other two coming in 2014 and 2017, despite having a whopping 62 pass deflections in his career to this point.

His team needed it. The Saints entered halftime up 27-24 after starting the second quarter down 17-0, and the defense’s success was a large part of that. It felt like every play with them on the field had been a 50/50 chance at being a large gain for the Buccaneers, or the Saints quickly getting off the field. They’ll need more stops and takeaways like this to win the day.

WATCH: Spencer Rattler makes Saints history with his first NFL touchdown pass

Spencer Rattler threw his first NFL touchdown pass to another rookie, and it came when the team needed it most. It also made Saints history:

Take a bow, Spencer Rattler. The young quarterback threw his first NFL touchdown pass to another rookie, and it came when the team needed it most. Rattler swung a fastball to wide receiver Bub Means in the back of the end zone, giving the New Orleans Saints a lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Context makes the play even more impressive. The Saints fell into a 17-0 deficit early on after the Bucs scored a couple of touchdowns on their own, one of them off a fumble recovery, but New Orleans fought back. The defense took the ball away, Rashid Shaheed scored a long punt return touchdown, and when Rattler got in he took care of business, putting them on top 20-17.

It was the first time in Saints franchise history that a rookie quarterback’s first touchdown pass was thrown to another first-year pro in his first start. And it’s a good start to Rattler’s NFL story. Let’s see if he can keep it going.

WATCH: Rashid Shaheed returns a punt 54 yards for a badly-needed TD

Rashid Shaheed returned a punt 54 yards for a badly-needed touchdown against the Buccaneers. It’s just what the Saints needed:

Leave it to Rashid Shaheed to bring the Caesars Superdome to its feet. A big stop by the New Orleans Saints defense and a foolish Tampa Bay Buccaneers penalty set him up in favorable field position to return a punt in the secondย  quarter, and he delivered.

Shaheed caught the ball just inside Saints territory and split the gunners to cut upfield, where a nice block by linebacker D’Marco Jackson sprung him free down the sideline. Shaheed had so much room to run he danced his way into the end zone. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi was waiting to celebrate with him.

This was Shaheed’s second career punt return touchdown, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. His score and Blake Grupe’s following kick cut the Bucs’ lead down to 17-10. With Chris Olave out in concussion protocol, Shaheed is going to be needed not just on offense but in the game’s third phase.

WATCH: Spencer Rattler’s first pass in the NFL goes for 27 yards

Spencer Rattler’s first pass in the NFL went for 27 yards. It would mean the world if the rookie can make some big plays and keep the Saints in games:

That’s a nice way to start your NFL career. Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler took the field for the New Orleans Saints and made an immediate impact, throwing a dart to tight end Juwan Johnson downfield. Johnson made some moves after the catch and gained 27 yards on the play.

It’s good to see Rattler throwing to his big tight end early and often. Johnson went into Week 6’s game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers having totaled just 9 receptions for 70 yards; that’s an average of 7.8 yards per catch and only 14 yards per game. That’s a far cry from his breakout 2022 season or his strong finish in 2023. Offseason foot surgery had slowed him down but it’s not like Derek Carr was looking his way often, either.

The Saints are desperate for Rattler to make a spark. Carr is on the mend with an oblique muscle injury and the team is preparing for their rookie to start three or four games until he’s back. It would mean the world if Rattler can make some big plays and keep them in games, but if nothing else his success could keep fans engaged amid a tough-to-watch losing streak.

Khalen Saunders used to show Chiefs teammates his high school RB highlights

Surprised by Khalen Saunders’ INT return? You wouldn’t be if you were one of his Chiefs teammates. He used to show them his high school highlights at running back:

New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Khalen Saunders delivered the play of the game on Monday Night when he intercepted Patrick Mahomes then took off. He caught the pass in the end zone and never considered going down for a touchback. Saunders returned the ball to the 35-yard line, displaying surprising athleticism.

Well, it wasn’t that surprising if you were a member of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2019 to 2022. Justin Reid revealed to Kay Adams that Saunders used to show them his high school highlight tape on a yearly basis. Adams was able to get the highlights in enough time for the two to watch it live on her show “Up and Adams.”

Saunders was smaller at the time, obviously, but not that much smaller. Reid revealed Saunders’ nickname was the minibus. How did this come up every year?

Every year, Saunders would talk about how he used to play running back and could still play offense. Of course, players were skeptical because of his weight, and every year someone would take the bait. All it took was for one vocal doubter and Saunders would pull out the tape as proof.

Reid added that “If anybody had to get a pick, I think everyone in Kansas City was happy it was him.”
