Eagles’ injury news and updates ahead of Week 11 vs. Commanders

The Philadelphia Eagles released their Wednesday injury report and DeVonta Smith was a limited participant while four others practiced fully

The Eagles held another walkthrough on Wednesday, preparing for a massive Thursday night matchup against the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field.

One of the NFL’s healthier teams just got healthier with the news that Jordan Mailata would return to the lineup after being activated off injured reserve.

It’s an estimated injury report, but if the Eagles practiced today, Nakobe Dean (groin), Darius Slay (ankle), Bryce Huff (wrist), and Dallas Goedert (ankle) would have all been full participants.

Marshon Lattimore, acquired from the Saints at the trade deadline, will have to wait until after the mini-bye to make his Washington debut. Lattimore has been ruled out.

Eagles activate Jordan Mailata from injured reserve ahead of game vs. Commanders

The Eagles are one of the healthiest teams in the NFL, and they have just gotten their most crucial player back. Philadelphia activated star left tackle Jordan Mailata from injured reserve ahead of Thursday’s game against the Washington Commanders.

The team opened Mailata’s 21-day practice window on Monday. Mailata has been out since Week 6 with a hamstring injury, which forced him to go on IR.

Mailata missed four games after exiting the Eagle’s win over the Browns with a hamstring injury.

According to Pro Football Focus, Mailata had graded out through the first six weeks of the season as the top pass-blocking tackle and the fourth-ranked overall tackle in the league.

Commanders vs. Eagles: 3 reasons for optimism in Week 11

There are three reasons for optimism ahead of the Eagles and Commanders Thursday night primetime divisional matchup in Week 11.

The Washington Commanders suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. The Commanders fought until the end but turned the ball over on downs with just over a minute left to play, and the Steelers took the win.

While losing isn’t fun, we must understand that the Commanders sat some injured players who typically play. They did that because it’s a short week, and this week, they face a division rival in the Philadelphia Eagles. Due to its playoff implications, this game matters more than the Steelers’ game. Head coach Dan Quinn insisted this wasn’t the case, but Washington clearly didn’t want to risk further injury to some of its already ailing starters.

The loss to the Steelers put the Eagles ahead of the Commanders in the NFC East.

A win on Thursday will not only put the Commanders back at the top of the NFC East but also control their playoff destiny for the rest of the season. At this point, the New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys don’t pose a threat. A win over the Eagles will set up the Commanders for success going forward.

So, even though taking a loss is hard, there are still reasons to be optimistic about their matchup against the Eagles, and we have three of those reasons listed below.

Jalen Hurts has fewer passing yards than Dak Prescott

Yes, you read that right. Jalen Hurts has 1,976 passing yards this season while Dak Prescott has 1,978. It’s not a big difference, but consider that Dak has played one fewer game than Hurts. Now, Prescott averages 6.9 yards per throw while Hurts averages 8.4, but Hurts’ lack of passing yards is a huge indicator that they like to run the ball. And with a guy like Saquon Barkley as your ball carrier, why wouldn’t you run the ball more than you throw it?

The point is that their offense is one-dimensional. Hurts’ receiving corps is banged up, and his line has allowed 26 sacks this season. This bodes well for a Commanders’ secondary without cornerback Marshon Lattimore on the field this week.

No back-to-back losses this season

So far in 2024, the Commanders have not posted back-to-back losses. This 7-3 Commanders team is much different from last year’s four-win team. Jayden Daniels isn’t just making his name heard for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, but he’s making a case for MVP of the entire league. He doesn’t want to lose back-to-back games, especially a guy coming out of LSU, where he’s used to winning games. He certainly doesn’t want to lose.

The Commanders’ defense doesn’t want to lose either. They have to be proud of the work they’ve put in this season and how well it’s paying off despite not having all of its pieces in place. This team has already proven that offense, defense, and special teams all have a singular mindset, a singular goal to win games. And it’s working.

Commanders hold all-time series record

The Commanders and Eagles have met 180 times since 1934; this will be their 181st meeting. Over that time period, the Commanders own the overall record 89-85-6. The two teams are typically pretty evenly matched, although looking through the history, you can see spells of one team dominating the other.

For example, the Eagles have won seven of their 10 meetings over the last five years. But that’s just another indication that it’s the Commanders’ turn. With their starters back on the field on Thursday, it will still be a tight game, but the Commanders have the edge, if for no other reason than that.

WATCH: Fletcher Cox raves about Nick Sirianni while explaining how ‘all he does is win’

Fletcher Cox praised Nick Sirianni on Tuesday, telling Kay Adams that all the Eagles coach does is win

Nick Sirianni entered the 2024 NFL season on the hot seat after Philadelphia lost six of its final seven games, including a blowout to Tampa Bay in the NFC Wild Card game. What followed was the firing of both coordinators, who were replaced by Kellen Moore (OC) and Vic Fangio (DC).

The Eagles made a few moves in free agency, including signing Saquon Barkley to a three-year deal. Howie Roseman landed two stars with the first two draft picks, and the Birds entered the season with huge expectations.

A 2-2 start led to some talk of Sirianni needing to be fired, but all Philadelphia has done since then is win five straight games, with both the offense and defense playing at high levels. Former Eagles star Fletcher Cox was a guest on Up with Adams and told Kay Adams that all Sirianni does is win.

During his tenure as head coach, Sirianni has guided Philadelphia to five winning streaks of five or more games. No other NFL team has logged more five-game winning streaks since the 2022 season. Sirianni’s .683 (41-19) winning percentage is the 9th-best career mark in NFL history and ranks 2nd among active head coaches, trailing only Jim Harbaugh (.692, 50-22-1). It is the highest winning percentage ever by an Eagles head coach and ranks 3rd in the NFL since 2021, behind Andy Reid (.767, 46-14) and Sean McDermott (.717, 43-17). Philadelphia is tied for the 3rd-best home winning percentage (.762, 16-5) in the league since 2022, trailing only Buffalo (.857, 18-3) and Kansas City (.773, 17-5) in that span. Including playoffs, the Eagles are 11-3 (.786) in their last 14 games at Lincoln Financial Field.

Bryce Huff (wrist) and Jordan Mailata (hamstring) all were full participants, with Mailata in line to return to the lineup after four games missed.

Eagles waive TE Jack Stoll

With Jordan Mailata returning to the lineup, the Philadelphia Eagles are waiving tight end Jack Stoll

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to get Jordan Mailata back in the lineup, and tight end Jack Stoll has been waived. The team needs a roster spot.

Mailata is returning to the lineup after missing four games, and Stoll is the third tight end on the roster. Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra are the main contributors.

Stoll has two catches, for 10 yards in seven games played this season, and he could return on the practice squad.

Dan Quinn is ‘fired up’ for Commanders game vs. Eagles with first place on the line

Dan Quinn is ‘fired up’ for Commanders game vs. Eagles with 1st place in NFC East on the line

The NFC is one of the best divisions in football, and Thursday night in Philadelphia will offer an old-school feel.

The Eagles are 7-2 after dominating the Cowboys (34-6) on Sunday, while Washington dropped to 7-3 and second place in the division after a 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The winner of Thursday’s game on Amazon will leave one team in first place and the other looking to regroup quickly.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media on Monday and was fired up for the massive matchup.

Last season, the Eagles beat the Commanders 34-31 overtime in Week 4 in Philadelphia. The Commanders have a 5-9 record against the Eagles in prime time. In their most recent prime-time matchup, Washington defeated Philadelphia on Monday night in Week 10 of the 2022 season to hand the Eagles their first loss.

Thursday’s game will be the first between quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and rookie Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Eagles open the practice window for Jordan Mailata ahead of game vs. Commanders

Jordan Mailata is set for a return to the lineup as the Philadelphia Eagles opened up his 21-day practice window

The Philadelphia Eagles are getting a significant reinforcement back, as Jordan Mailata had his 21-day practice window opened ahead of the Thursday night matchup against the Washington Commanders.

Mailata has missed the past four games with a hamstring injury and was placed on injured reserve.

Mailata is set to return to the lineup just days after the entire roster was listed as healthy for Sunday’s win over the Cowboys.

Fred Johnson came off the bench for Mailata in the last four games, all wins for the Eagles.

Even with the missed time, Mailata is Pro Football Focus’ third highest-graded offensive tackle this season, behind only Miami’s Terron Armstead and Detroit’s Penei Sewell.  Lane Johnson is seventh. According to PFF’s metrics, Mailata is the second-best pass protector and fourth-best run-blocking tackle.

According to PFF, Mailata has only allowed one sack this season.
