Boston’s Blake Griffin has cameo in 2023 remake of ‘White Men Can’t Jump’

Griffin has a cameo in the new version featuring Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow.

If you have seen the remake of the classic hoops flick “White Men Can’t Jump” recently, you might have noticed a familiar face playing a role in the new version of the 1992 classic starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. Your eyes are not deceiving you!

Veteran Boston Celtics big man Blake Griffin has a cameo in the new version featuring Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow, as well as a credit for executive producer. Ironically, another player for a team currently in the 2023 East finals who is not seeing much floor time, Miami Heat wing Tyler Herro also has a cameo in the movie.

Streaming exclusively on Hulu, the network describes the remake as a “modern retelling of the iconic 1992 film that celebrates the streetball hustling culture of Los Angeles.”

“Juggling tenuous relationships, financial pressures, and serious internal struggles, the two ballers-opposites who are seemingly miles apart- find that they might have more in common than they imagined possible.”

Jayson Tatum helps launch new PvP Challenge feature on NBA 2K Mobile

Jayson Tatum helped launch NBA 2K Mobile’s new PvP Challenge mode alongside Ronnie 2K in an ad full of fun Easter Eggs.

Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum has further expanded his celebrity reach, this time with an expanded partnership with the hit video game franchise NBA 2K. Already one of the most prominent stars in the game, Tatum recently starred in a promotional video launching 2K Mobile’s new PvP (player versus player) Challenges feature.

Not only does Tatum adorn the new feature’s loading screen in Celtics green, but he starred in a launch advertisement alongside the head of lifestyle and content marketing for the franchise, Ronnie 2K. In a commercial full of fun Easter eggs, Tatum hops into the new PvP mode next to his trademark custom Mustang, sitting at the barbershop in Boston, and really all over the map.

As NBA 2K told Celtics Wire, this new mode is designed to let players challenge their friends and family with the stroke of a finger. And to celebrate the launch, players are offered a promo code to earn a Jade Tier Jayson Tatum card in the game through June 15.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown sports custom sneakers paying homage to Mesoamerican ball game

Associated with the ancestors of today’s indigenous cultures of what is today Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, the Caribbean, and the US Southwest, the sport bears a clear resemblance to basketball.

While the consensus on the origin of the sport of basketball places its origin as a sport to Springfield’s James Naismith, there have been a few competing claims over the decades, such as that of Lambert Will of Herkimer, New York. But if one looks at the general concept of putting a bouncy ball through a hoop, the roots of such sport go much deeper in the history of the Americas.

Ahead of the Boston Celtics’ first round tilt with the Atlanta Hawks, Boston’s Jaylen Brown paid homage to those roots in the form of sneakers painted to raise awareness of the Maya or Mesoamerican ball game as a progenitor of sorts for the sport Brown now plays for a living.

Boston Celtics 2023 playoff gear

The #Celtics are heading into the 2023 NBA with a mantra. You can too with the latest gear:

After some deep playoff runs, the Boston Celtics are looking to finally take home their 18th championship.

As Boston looks to roll past the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, the Celtics have their eye on the big prize: A NBA title–The one that escaped them a season ago.

After making it as far as the Eastern Conference finals in recent years, the Celtics finally broke that curse and advanced to the NBA Finals in 2022. In the end, Boston fell short in a 4-2 series loss against the Golden State Warriors.

Now more than ever, the Celtics are revving up for title No. 18. Boston is gearing up this spring with this mindset: “Unfinished Business.”

And you can do the same.

Check out the latest Celtics 2023 postseason gear below:

Jerseys set for Games 1 – 4 of Boston Celtics – Atlanta Hawks first round series

Let’s take a look at the jerseys we will see on the court in Games 1 – 4.

The Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks are set to take the court to play the first of at least four games in their first round series in the 2023 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs, and for at least those four contests, the Celtics and Hawks have their uniform choices set.

Selecting from each of the four uniforms put together by the folks at Nike behind the Association, City, Icon, and Statement official jersey designs, the folks in charge of making these seemingly minor decisions have made their selections. For now, just the minimum number of contests — four — from the potential seven games in the series now have corresponding uniform choices posted at the league’s Lockervision site.

No point picking uniforms for games that may not be played, we suppose (h/t SI’s Pat Benson). Let’s take a look at the jerseys we will see on the court in Games 1 – 4.

Celtics Lab 181: Everything you wanted to know about the Atlanta Hawks but were afraid to ask with Pat Benson

This episode, we see how things look in the Hawks-Celtics first-round series from the Atlanta point of view thanks to SI’s Pat Benson.

The Boston Celtics swept the three-game regular-season series with the Atlanta Hawks, their opponents in the first round of the NBA’s 2023 Eastern Conference playoffs.

But the Hawks have a new head coach, Quin Snyder, who is starting to reshape the team’s style of play to something more dynamic than we’ve seen from them for most of the season. Those changes suggest there’s at least a chance the series will not be quite the sweep some are predicting.

Could the Hawks drag this series out to five or even six games? What would have to happen for that to take shape? Can we trust Boston to take a perceived lesser foe as seriously as they ought to? Do the Celtics simply have too much talent for Atlanta to have a chance of stealing multiple wins?

To get a picture of what we ought to expect from the team heading into Game 1 on Saturday, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast (powered by Fan Duel and Better Help) got together with Sports Illustrated’s Pat Benson to talk it over.

We also get into the latest news about awards races, merchandise sales and the health of key players on both teams, so be sure to tune in ahead of Hawks-Celtics.

Celtics rank third in merchandise sales for 2022-23; Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown third and 14th for jersey sales respectively

The Boston Celtics have been doing very well this season in terms of selling merchandise.

The Boston Celtics have been doing very well this season in terms of selling merchandise, which perhaps is to be expected when you are a contending ball club with an MVP candidate and perhaps two All-NBA stars on your roster. Per the league, the Celtics’ team merchandise came in with the third-best sales across the league, behind the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors and just ahead of the Phoenix Suns.

Individual jersey sales had a strong Boston presence as well. Superstar swingman Jayson Tatum clocked in with the third-best jersey sales in the league for 2022-23 trailing only LeBron James and Stephen Curry. He ranks just ahead of Giannis Atentokounmpo.

Star forward Jaylen Brown also had a solid showing in jersey sales this season, 14th-best in the league behind Joel Embiid and just ahead of Jordan Pool.

Boston’s Jayson Tatum gifts the Celtics coaching staff his new signature shoe

The wait for Jayson Tatum’s first signature shoe is officially over.

With Jayson Tatum’s first signature shoe, the “Zoo” colorway of the Tatum 1, finally available for mass purchase, the St. Louis native could be seen sporting the red and black kicks on the court in the Boston Celtics’ penultimate home and regular-season contest against the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.

But much earlier in the day, the former Duke player did his coaches a major solid, the Nike sneaker was handed out to all of Boston’s coaching staff at the team’s practice facility of Auerbach Center.

The lightest shoe in the Michael Jordan-inspired line of sneakers was well-received by the coaching staff.

On Bill Russell, the original sneaker free agent

Decades ago, in the Louisiana native’s prime with Boston in the 1960s, Russell decided to endorse a shoe made right here in New England.

Star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown is a sneaker free agent by design, his high standards for what he wants in footwear he would be endorsing with not only his name but also his values make the fit — both literal and metaphorical — critical.

But as is often the case with Brown and the Celtics, the forward-thinking star is following a path blazed long ago by a larger-than-life Boston icon, Hall of Fame Celtics big man Bill Russell. Decades ago, in the Louisiana native’s prime with Boston in the 1960s, Russell decided to endorse a shoe made right here in New England.

And he did it his way, creating a product that extended the life of that shoe company without simply being a transactional renting of Russell’s name and likeness.
