Fans get first look next edition of Jayson Tatum’s signature shoes with release of NBA 2K25 cover art

Jayson Tatum’s appearance on the cover of NBA 2K25 offered fans a first look at the next edition of his signature shoes, the Tatum 3s.

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum will be the primary cover athlete for NBA 2K25 when the game launches this September, alongside WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson and future Hall of Famer. In total, 2K sports will release four unique versions of the game, and the covers of each edition were unveiled Wednesday morning.

Hiding in plain sight on the cover of NBA 2K25 is a sneak peek at the unreleased Tatum 3, the third iteration of the All-NBA forward’s signature shoes. Back in February, Tatum said the JT 3s were nearly complete, and that preliminary work on the JT 4s had already begun.

A spokesperson for Jordan Brand confirmed to Celtics Wire that the shoes seen on the new 2K covers were in fact the Tatum 3s, and that details about the sneakers and their release would be available soon.

“It’s really an 18-month process,” Tatum explained in February. “Each shoe, from the day that you come up with the design to the day it hits retail, is an 18-month process. So that’s why a third of the way through the Tatum 1, the Tatum 2 is done.”

Tatum is headed to Paris later this month with teammates Jrue Holiday and Derrick White to compete for gold at the 2024 Olympics.

Already this summer, he has unveiled a red, white, and blue edition of the JT 2s. Perhaps we will get a closer look at the JT 3s sooner rather than later.

Jaylen Brown and 7uice share video celebrating the magic behind their new line of Vanson jackets

Jaylen Brown and 7uice launched their new line of Vanson jackets with a video celebrating the craftspeople behind the scenes.

Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown and his apperal brand 7uice launched a new project today, a collaboration with Vanson Leathers to produce a line of special jackets. The project connects to history and culture in many ways which they describe as aimed at centering craftsmanship and quality. The jackets themselves borrow the signature Bones style that Vanson has offered for many years, and each is handmade by dedicated craftspeople.

Brown and 7uice worked with creative director of streetwear at Vanson Da’Von Bean to tell the story behind this new partnership. In doing so, they sought to highlight the individuals behind the scenes. The result is a unique perspective on the work, care, and community that goes into each jacket made. These jackets will be available for sale starting January 5 of this year.

Community, energy, and style: The history behind Jaylen Brown and 7uice Brand’s new boney Vanson jackets

EXCLUSIVE: Jaylen Brown, 7uice Brand seek to disrupt and endure with a new line of Vanson leather jackets made in Fall River, MA.

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown isn’t satisfied with the status quo. Since joining the NBA in 2016, the Georgia native has challenged what has come to expected from a superstar athlete, especially in his pursuits away from the basketball court. This is why Brown demands more of our education system. It’s why he seeks to systematically tackle income inequality in Boston. And it’s why he and his apparel brand 7uice plan to disrupt the conventional with their latest product launch.

Starting on January 5 of this year, Brown and his team will release a new line of leather jackets, available on the 7uice website. It’s a project steeped in history and aimed at bucking the pitfalls of mass consumerism. The jackets themselves are made specifically by artisan craftspeople at Vanson Leather in Fall River, Massachusetts, and are meant to celebrate the region’s heritage of quality and craft.

The design, meanwhile, has its origins in a rebellious chapter of professional motorcycle racing. Unexpected, right?

How to draw Boston Celtics legend Larry Bird

For those of us who need help with our drawing as much as we do our jump shot, there is hope.

When it comes to the gravity that Hall of Fame Boston Celtics forward Larry Bird had on the court, it was not unusual to see the Celtics legend draw two or even three defenders. But drawing Larry Legend is an entirely different story — especially if you have a little help.

For those of us who need help with our drawing as much as we do our jump shot, there is a tutorial hosted on the “Hey Kids, Let’s Draw” YouTube channel that offers detailed instructions and visual demonstrations to help us draw a cartoon rendering of Larry Bird, complete with his iconic Celtics jersey.

The instructions cover the neck, shoulders, jersey, shorts, socks, shoes and hands dribbling a basketball.

So check the clip above out if you want to bring the Hick From French Lick to life on paper, if not on the court.

Why some Celtics fans in China call Jayson Tatum ‘Rex Rabbit’

Here’s why fans in China use “rex rabbit” to refer to Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum.

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum isn’t just one of the most popular athletes in New England. He has a global following, thanks in part to the NBA’s huge international reach, as well as Tatum’s winning personality and play. Unsurprisingly, the former Duke Blue Devil has plenty of fans in China.

China has long been a hotbed for NBA fandom. The league has invested heavily to curate and grow that market and China alone could represent $5 billion in value to the NBA. Anchoring those numbers sit fans just as passionate as you might find on Causeway Street or at the TD Garden, and it’s common for members of the international media to visit Celtics games to report back to fans in China or elsewhere. Such was the case Wednesday night following Boston’s road win against the Philadelphia 76ers.

During a postgame press conference, a reporter explained to Jayson Tatum that he is called “cute rabbit” or “rex rabbit” in China by fans. The reporter estimated that 90% of people in China refer to him with these nicknames.

Jayson Tatum debuts new Celtics-inspired colorways for Jordan Tatum 1s in Knicks win

This new colorway is likely to be a Celtics fan favorite for obvious reasons and should be available for purchase starting today.

All eyes were on star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum in his team’s Monday night win against the New York Knicks as Tatum went into takeover mode late in the contest, but not just for his ability to put the proverbial biscuit in the basket.

Tatum also made a statement with his footwear. The game marked the debut of the Jordan Tatum 1 ‘Home Team’ colorway, the latest addition to his signature sneaker line with Jordan Brand (h/t SI’s Pat Benson). The ‘Home Team’ colorway pays homage to the Boston Celtics, one of the league’s most storied franchises and of course the team the St. Louis native plays for, the black and green a solid match for Boston’s alternate jerseys.

This new colorway is likely to be a Celtics fan favorite for obvious reasons and should be available for purchase starting today on Nike’s website.

Orlando’s Paolo Banchero on how his Jordan Tatum 1 PE ‘Huevos Bancheros’ came to be

We thought it might be his ties to fellow Duke alum Jayson Tatum, but we guessed wrong.

The Orlando Magic’s Paolo Banchero has more in common with Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum than he does the country his team played the Atlanta Hawks in on Thursday night as part of the NBA’s 2023 Mexico City Game, but that seemed like an appropriate moment for the Celtics Wire to chat with Banchero about his “Huevos Bancheros” Jordan Tatum 1 PEs.

Before speaking with the Italian-American star forward, we assumed it was the ties between Tatum and Banchero that led to the sneakers inspired by the classic Mexican breakfast — huevos rancheros (rancher’s eggs) — the shoes play off in their name and are inspired by.

But the Magic star set us straight with the actual origin story of the iconic sneaker designs of Tatum’s signature shoe. “Last year when I was a rookie we was trying to come up with ideas for the PEs,” began Banchero.

“I think they saw it on Twitter (…) somebody posted or made a comment and (Jordan Brand) found it and thought it would be a great idea, and I wanted to make a shoe with that name.”

“I love how it came out,” he added of the sneakers, which have beige perhaps inspired by tortillas, yellow and white that could be for eggs and crema (similar to sour cream), and green and orange that might be inspired by avocado and chile morrón (bell peppers, in this case, orange).

“It was a very unique shoe!” said Banchero. And given our chat was taking place in the global capital of huevos rancheros, we’re inclined to agree.

New Celtics City Edition jerseys ranked No.11 in NBA for 2023-24

Tied at No. 11 overall with the Charlotte Hornets (rarely a good thing in terms of basketball but not bad in terms of uni design) and trailing the Sacramento Kings (never a good thing, to be honest), the Celtics kept it simple.

The Boston Celtics (and the rest of the NBA) have new City Edition jerseys, and there are more complaints than usual about how they look this season, perhaps a product of old persons yelling at others to get off of their lawns, but also perhaps they are more garish than usual. But as to how they stack up against each other, the staff of the Athletic ranked them all, and the Boston Celtics’ City Editions didn’t do all that badly.

Tied at No. 11 overall with the Charlotte Hornets (rarely a good thing in terms of basketball but not bad in terms of uni design) and trailing the Sacramento Kings (never a good thing, to be honest), the Celtics kept it simple, and that landed with the critics. “If you’re not going to be creative, then keep it clean,” noted James Edwards III. “Boston did.”

“Maybe I’m in the minority, but I actually like the blending of the white on the front with the wood grain texture on the sides,” observed Kelly Iko.

“Who knew Boston had a history of furniture making? I sure didn’t. The wood coloring on the side is also a nod to peach baskets, the part of history I would expect,” added Jason Jones.

All in all — especially in a season where said City Editions were especially ugly — this is a win for a team that has put out not only the Enya Irish Pub C.E.s, but the grey Underoos Shirsey.

Just be happy Boston has yet to devise its own version of the Dallas Mavericks garbage bag jerseys.
