Arsenal suffered a shocking 2-0 loss to Brentford Aug. 13, but it wasn’t just a loss. It was dominated by a club projected to finish in the bottom half of the league. The opening defeat has boosted its odds for this match.

Behind strong performances from M Mason Mount and M Jorginho, Chelsea was able to easily take care of Crystal Palace 3-0. On the road, Arsenal should pose more of a challenge.

Arsenal looked pitiful against Brentford, but it still had 22 shots. The pressure and pace were there. Arsenal has had Chelsea’s number lately as well, winning each of the last three head-to-head matches.

Chelsea is reinforced and has one of the best midfields in the world. Coming off a fresh long-term deal, M Emile Smith Rowe should have a more impactful match as he struggled to open the season.

Arsenal isn’t nearly as bad as it showed against Brentford. It’s a tough task, but I expect the Gunners to get at least a point at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (-140) as Arsenal didn’t show much offense and Chelsea will be without M Christian Pulisic.

The American isn’t usually in the starting XI but got the call against Crystal Palace and scored. He has since been diagnosed with COVID-19 and 22-year-old M Kai Havertz should be taking his place. Regardless, Chelsea doesn’t have a great 9.

Arsenal couldn’t get on the board against Brentford but did have 22 shots; however, it put just 4 on target. Both sides are playing a more skilled defense than they did last weekend so expect a low-scoring match.

Tottenham defeated reigning champion Manchester City 1-0 Sunday. Although City was the more dominant side and pressed heavily on the home Tottenham, it was the counterattacking that proved to be the difference in the match.

Tottenham F Son Heung-Min, who tied for fourth in the EPL in goals scored last season, scored the lone goal of the 2021-22 opening match. That’s more than the Wolves had to start their season.

Wolverhampton lost 1-0 to Leicester City Aug. 14. However, it managed nearly double the shots of its opponent, totaling 17 yet putting only 3 on target. It’ll enter as a home underdog in this match.

Half of soccer in the EPL is the game plan and Tottenham’s coaching staff certainly looked like they knew what they were doing against Manchester City, arguably the most talented club in the league.

The Hotspur will be forced into a different style of play as it’ll look to be the aggressors against a team that ended with 17 losses in 38 games a season ago.

F Harry Kane is setting bridges on fire at Tottenham, so don’t expect him to make the trip.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 2.5 (-140) as Tottenham has arguably the most underrated defense in the EPL. It limited Man City to few attempts, as D Japhet Tanganga had an outstanding performance.

Along those lines, while Wolverhampton got shots on Leicester City, most of them weren’t quality as just 3 tried the keeper. Tottenham should have just as competent of a defense.

Without Kane, who would’ve been the best attacker in the match, expect a low-scoring game, one that likely ends with fewer than 3 goals in the back of the net.

Manchester United sat atop the table after the first weekend of action following a 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United. M Paul Pogba made his presence known by assisting on four of the five goals. His connection with 26-year-old F Bruno Fernandes, who recorded a hat trick, is obvious.

They’ll be difficult to contain for a Southampton side that struggled to defend against Everton in its first match of the season. Southampton lost 3-1 and was 16th in the EPL following the first weekend of play.

To be quite frank, I’m surprised it’s not more unfavorable for bettors, but being on the road is never easy. Man U had 21 wins in 38 matches last season and finished second in the EPL while Southampton finished 15th.

With a dominant roster featuring M Fred and English D Harry Maguire, expect another solid performance from the away side. With Man U looking to keep its lead in the table, this should be a relatively easy match.

Southampton had 19 losses in 38 matches last season, and against a top-tier opponent, I wouldn’t expect much out of it this time around. The attacking prowess of Man U should prove to be too much.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 2.5 (-140) with ease.

Man U, behind Fernandes and then substitutes like F Marcus Rashford, should overpower Southampton.

At the same time, Southhampton got on the board against Everton. Southampton managed 6 shots with 3 on target. Twenty-four-year-old F Adam Armstrong scored the lone goal.

After a 5-goal performance from Man U, it should be expected to stay hot and could easily top the 3 goals on its own. This is the best bet in the match given the value.

They’ll be taking on the last place Leeds United, who were absolutely destroyed by Manchester United. Leeds scored, but a Bruno Fernandes’ hat trick has Man U sitting atop the table with a plus-4 goal differential.

Leeds finished ninth last season with 18 wins, so they should pose a decent threat for Everton.

“LEAN” to the DRAW (+250) as Everton’s win isn’t as impressive as it seems.

They took on Southampton who had a minus-21 goal difference last season and barely escaped relegation. Targeting F Matthew Hoppe, Everton knows they still need a 9.

As for Leeds, they played Man U at Old Trafford which is no easy task, especially to start the season. They’re much better than a 5-1 total showed. Leeds and Everton were respectively No. 9 and 10 on the table last season.

The teams are close and a tie certainly wouldn’t be shocking. For half a unit, I’d bet on it.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER 2.5 (+115) as the best value in this match.

Again, looking at last week, Everton scored 3 against a subpar opponent, and Leeds gave up 5 against an elite Man U side. Against each other, the result should be different.

Everton doesn’t have that top-tier striker which is why they’re targeting Hoppe. Pickford is also coming off a dominant Euro 2020 performance, so there’s hope he can limit Leeds.

Combine the two, and this is one of the few EPL matches I think adds up to Under 3 goals Saturday.

PASS on Manchester City as the value just isn’t there.

Teams have off days and betting the -900 isn’t worth the risk. However, there are good bets in this lopsided match. One of the best values is Man City MF ILKAY GUNDOGAN (+105) to score.

He had his best EPL season last year with 13 goals and should benefit from the attacking prowess and distribution of Grealish and de Bruyne.

Given that he should get quite a bit of time and the Norwich City defense is less than ideal, the value on him putting one in the back of the net is a bet to take.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 3.5 (-110) as the best value in this match. Manchester City easily led the league with 83 goals last season.

While they don’t have a true 9, they do have a plethora of offensive-minded midfielders that should be able to push the pace. Man City had 83 goals in 38 matches last season. Yet, at the same time, they looked vulnerable against Tottenham when being counterattacked.

On the other side of the ball, Norwich City was able to put pressure on Liverpool. The match felt closer than 3-0 as a second-half onslaught hurt Norwich. Against a better attack in Man City, this could easily get out of hand.

They also have D Virgil van Dijk on their backline, so there’s a better bet.

The BEST BET is for ONE TEAM TO NOT SCORE (-160). Liverpool gave up just three shots on target to Norwich City.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on UNDER 3.5 (-160) as the best value in this match.

Liverpool played well in their opener and their defense held up. I expect their defense to stay strong against a weaker Burnley side.

Burnley scored just once on Brighton and allowed 2 tallies. It’d be shocking if they can get anything on van Dijk and the solid Liverpool defense.

If that’s the case, Liverpool can do their best offensively and the Under should still hit. It’s a good bet as a 3-1 shootout seems unlikely.

F Raheem Sterling, M Kevin De Bruyne and the newcomer M Jack Grealish will all headline an absolutely stacked Man City roster. That’s not even to mention the solid defense.

Along with M Ilkay Gundogan coming off the best season of his career, Man City enters this season with the most talented roster in the EPL.

Despite the odds and being away from home, I’m going to bet on the road side.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on OVER 2.5 (-115) as Tottenham is also certainly capable of scoring.

While the Hotspur finished seventh last season, Tottenham was tied with Liverpool and Leicester City for the third-most goals in the league. F Harry Kane had the most goals in the league with 23 and F Heung-min Son tied for the fourth most with 17.

Both sides will be able to score at a high level, and that should produce good value for the Over 2.5.
