Jim Schwartz excited about Eagles speed at LB; T.J. Edwards’ maturation process

Jim Schwartz has high-praise for T.J. Edwards; Excited about Eagles speed at LB

The Philadelphia Eagles allowed Nigel Bradham to walk into free agency, choosing to retool the roster and add speed at wide receiver and linebacker. The Eagles add Jatavis Brown in free agency and then added two speedy tacklers in Davion Taylor and Temple product, Shaun Bradley.

During his Friday zoom meeting, Schwartz was giddy about the new speed at linebacker and he was especially excited about T.J. Edwards’ potential at middle linebacker.

Nate Gerry is solid as a returner, while Jatavis Brown’s play dipped with the Chargers, but he’s ultra-quick and could be a sleeper candidate at linebacker. The dream scenario would be for T.J. Edwards to quarterback the defense at middle linebacker, with the hybrid package of Davion Taylor, Shaun Bradley and Nate Gerry handling the passing down.

Eagles’ land in the top-2 of a ranking of NFL offenses in the red-zone

Eagles’ had the No. 2 red-zone offense in the NFL in 2019

[jwplayer ozpeFbYe]

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the most efficient teams in the NFL and a big reason for that success stems from their ability to put points on the board in the red-zone.

Success in the NFL is predicated on a team’s ability to turn a red-zone trip into six points (TD) rather than the three (FG) and the Philadelphia Eagles were among the top-2 teams in the NFL last season in red-zone success per Pro Football Focus.

Only the Baltimore Ravens were more efficient inside the 10.

A huge reason for that ranking was the success of Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott running behind that stout offensive line and Carson Wentz’s 21 red-zone touchdowns, third in the NFL behind only Jackson and Russell Wilson, without a single interception.

Eagles’ passing game coordinator Press Taylor preaching quick scoring drives, pushing the ball downfield

Press Taylor wants the Eagles to have a quick scoring offense

[jwplayer M7O9ghZb]

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the top young coaching minds in the NFL on their staff and rather than let him hit the open market, Doug Pederson promoted Press Taylor to the role of passing game coordinator.

A big reason for that promotion stems from Taylor innovation in regards to the quick passing game, utilizing guys in open space and dictating matchups based on what’s in the best interest of Carson Wentz and the Eagles.

During a Friday zoom meeting, Taylor sounded less like a ground and pound play-caller and more like a guy who has spent time with Andy Reid and his Brother, Bengals coach Zac Taylor.

Press Taylor spoke like a coach who envisions the Eagles offense resembling the explosive potential of the 49ers or Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Jalen Reagor, Quez Watkins, and John Hightower offer the Eagles unique weapons that can all do damage in space. Mix that explosiveness in with the dynamic versatility of Ertz and Goedert, and the Eagles have the potential for a top-5 offense in 2020.

Former Eagles RB LeSean McCoy signs 1-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

LeSean McCoy signs 1-year deal with the Buccaneers

LeSean McCoy had discussions about returning to the Philadelphia Eagles but a chance to chase one more Super Bowl was too much to turn down and he’ll be joining Tom Brady in Tampa Bay reports Adam Schefter.

The Eagles all-time leading rusher, McCoy won a Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs last season but was inactive for the big game after being released by the Bills and picked up by Kansas City.

In Tampa Bay, McCoy will pair with Tom Brady to give the Bucs another weapon out the backfield.

Eagles QB Carson Wentz responds to being left off the NFL’s Top-100 players of 2020 list

Carson Wentz says he’s motivated by being left off Top-100 Players list

Carson Wentz addressed the media for the first time since arriving at Eagles training camp and the Birds star addressed the elephant in the room, which was his snub from the NFL Top-100 Players list.

Despite leading the Eagles to the playoffs, having better stats than both players ahead of him, and having the first 4,000 yard passing season in franchise history, Wentz was omitted from the Top-100 Players list despite Kyler Murray and Josh Allen being named to the list.

On Thursday Wentz addressed the slight and handled it in a similar fashion to the way he responds to disrespect, with class and a singular focus.

“I usually don’t get caught up in a lot of that stuff. … You can always use anything and everything as a little bit of extra motivation. It is what it is.”

Wentz stated that he can use anything for extra motivation, but that he’s “not losing sleep over not appearing in the NFL Top 100 list.”

Wentz went on to say that he’s taking a “glass-half-full” approach in terms of the 2020 season happening. Wentz also said he respects & understands any decision to opt-out of the season.

Eagles QB Carson Wentz says he feels safe at Eagles complex when asked about opting out of 2020 NFL season

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz returned to Philadelphia on Monday amid an uncertain training camp due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wentz, who has an infant daughter, was asked about NFL players opting out of the 2020 NFL season, specifically wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. The Eagles star quarterback admitted that he held some concerns, but after prayer and talking about it with his wife, decided against opting out.

Wentz went onto say that he has, in fact, gained some weight and had a great offseason from a workout and training perspective.

In a move that was expected but should give fans a reason for optimism, the Eagles have placed star wide receiver, Alshon Jeffery, on the active/PUP list.

The news comes hours after it was reported that wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was opting out of the 2020 NFL season amid Covid-19 concerns after he and his wife just had a new baby five months ago.

Jeffery is returning from a Lisfranc injury and head coach Doug Pederson gave an update on his rehab during his Monday zoom presser but offered no specific timetable.

How Marquise Goodwin opting out of the 2020 season will impact the Eagles

How Marquise Goodwin opting out of the 2020 season will impact the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles lost a big-play option on Tuesday when speedy wide receiver Marquise Goodwin opted out of playing the 2020 NFL season.

Goodwin has a good reason, as he and his wife Morgane Goodwin-Snow now have a 5-month daughter after the couple previously had three miscarriages. Family comes first and Goodwin will have to wait until 2021 to connect with Carson Wentz.

With Goodwin out for the season, the Eagles will have to move some parts around, and with the NFL being all about the next man up, here’s how the opt-out will impact Philadelphia.

John Hightower

1. John Hightower in the slot makes more sense now

Hightower now has the chance to become a dynamic playmaker as a rookie and although he’s known more for his speed, the Eagles need to get him in space, and starting out in the slot seems like the most logical move.

During his senior season, Hightower had 51 receptions for 943 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns to go along with 16 carries for 154 rushing yards in 14 total games. His ability as a ball-carrier should allow Hightower to see the field early on in the 2020 season.

In a move that was expected and understandable, new Eagles speedy wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is opting out of playing the 2020 NFL season due to the Covid-19 pandemic Ian Rapoport reports.

Goodwin reportedly has informed the Eagles, who traded picks to the 49ers on draft night for the speedy wide receiver. Goodwin and his wife Morgan Goodwin-Snow have a 5-month daughter after the couple previously had three miscarriages.

With family being most important and the Goodwin’s not wanting to risk the safety of his daughter, the Eagles will have to look elsewhere.

Last summer, Carson Wentz slimmed down before training camp, hoping the lean muscle mass could translate into a quicker quarterback outside the pocket.

After starting all 16 regular-season games and leading the Eagles to another division title, Wentz put in the work during a virtual offseason that was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Wentz arrived at training camp on Monday and the franchise quarterback looks to have bulked up, appearing strong and confident.

The quarterback and other Eagles rookies have been back in town getting tested and acclimated for 2020 training camp, which will be much different than what teams are used to.
