That’s a major stretch, but he was fine, the rest of the team stepped up its game considering the quarterback issues, and the Patriots got a stunning 29-0 win over Detroit.

Helping the newbie’s cause is the running game that should take all the pressure off. Damien Harris might be hurting, but Rhamondre Stevenson should be able to pound away on a Cleveland defense that’s struggling against the run.

The Browns might be struggling all of a sudden against the run, but the pass rush is still strong, the pass defense hasn’t been awful, and they should be able to keep the score down the game close – if they don’t take an early lead.

Just when you think Bill Belichick has lost it and the team is about to go into the tank, it pitches a gem like it did last week.

Cleveland is hardly anything great – the two wins are against bad Carolina and Pittsburgh teams – but the ground attack should be able to own the game for long stretches.

That was floated out there by some this week, and …

No. Forgetting everything else, Deshaun Watson is the man when it’s time, but Brissett has been a wonderful surprise to go along with the incredible running game.

The Browns lead the NFL in rushing – they commit to it and keep hammering – and Atlanta has been just okay against the run. It got hammered by New Orleans and had problems against Seattle’s ground attack, and neither one have anything like the Browns are bringing.

And the Cleveland passing attack is doing its part, too, at least in the offensive scheme.

The Falcons are bringing a little bit for the ground attack, too.

Fifth in the NFL in yards, Marcus Mariota is making plays on the move, Cordarrelle Patterson has been a problem – he’s banged up, though – and this is where the injuries on the Cleveland defensive front might turn into a problem.

The Falcon passing attack hasn’t been able to get rolling, but Drake London looks like a star in the making, TE Kyle Pitts needs to be used even more, and …

Cleveland has been too efficient and too good at controlling games. It milks the clock, is among the best in the NFL at getting the defense off the field, and that will all come into play in this.

Why Pittsburgh Steelers Will Win

Can the Browns really get by with Jacoby Brissett?

He hasn’t been all that bad, and the great Cleveland running game has been able to help, but the downfield passing attack isn’t enough to get excited about and now Brissett has to deal with the Pittsburgh pass rush.

The Steelers are helping out their sleepy offense with a slew of big defensive plays, there’s a running game in there somewhere if Najee Harris can ever get a little room to run, and there’s the control factor.

The Browns might be doing more on the ground, but Pittsburgh has a way so far of grinding things down to a stop. Cincinnati moved the ball well, and so did New England. Both games were tight late.

Why Cleveland Browns Will Win

Can the Browns really get by with Jacoby Brissett?

Apparently, yeah. There’s no problem.

He doesn’t have to light it up, but he’s doing a great job of moving the chains – the Browns lead the NFL in first downs – with the offensive line getting the job done for Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

And then there’s the downfield passing side of the attack. Cleveland isn’t getting a whole lot of that out of Brissett, but Pittsburgh is getting nothing out of Mitchell Trubisky.

The Steelers don’t run a whole lot of plays. They don’t connect, they need takeaways to make things happen, and Cleveland isn’t likely to help with just one turnover so far.

What’s Going To Happen

Pittsburgh’s defense has a way of being a differentiating factor no matter what, but the offense just can’t get going.

Granted, if Joe Flacco could look like Patrick Mahomes against the Cleveland defense anything is possible – the Jets won last week 31-30 – but the offensive side isn’t going to give up the big mistakes for the struggling Steeler O to pull this out late.
