James Conner named Week 13 ground player of the week

Fans voted for Conner the winner after his 105-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week 13 in a win over the Steelers.

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner was passed over for the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, but he did get league honors for his play in Week 13.

After he rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday in the Cardinals’ 24-10 road win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was named the FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week.

He was nominated early in the week and fans voted him the winner.

It is the first time a Cardinals running back has won the honors since Kenyan Drake did in Week 15 of 2019 when he scored four touchdowns against the Cleveland Browns.

Connor has won it three times now in his career. The other two times were in 2018 as a member of the Steelers.

For winning the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award, FedEx will make a $2,000 donation in Conner’s name to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), which will be applied towards needs-based scholarships to deserving HBCU students.

Trey McBride ties record in win over Steelers

McBride’s eight catches on Sunday gives him 56 on the season, tied for the most in a season by any Cardinals tight end.

The Arizona Cardinals surprised the league with a 24-10 road win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. It was their first road win of the season and first since Week 10 of last season.

In the win, tight end Trey McBride tied a single-season franchise record.

He tied the franchise’s single-season record for receptions by a tight end.

He had eight receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown, giving him a total of 56 receptions for 610 yards on the season.

The 56 catches match Zach Ertz’s 56 catches in 2021 and Jackie Smith’s 56 in 1967.

His 610 yards are the most by a tight end since Smith had 687 in 1970. He is only the third Cardinals tight end to have 600 receiving yards in a season.

The passing game went through McBride on Sunday. There were only 13 catches by the Cardinals as a team. He had eight of them.

With seven games to go, he will set a new single-season record with every catch he has.

The single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end is 1,205, set by Smith in 1967. He needs 595 yards in the final seven games to tie that record.
