What we learned in the Cardinals’ 26-7 win over the Giants

The offense got back on track and the defense was fantastic.

The Arizona Cardinals took down the New York Giants on Sunday on the road, defeating them 26-7 at MetLife Stadium. It snapped a three-game losing streak and ended the Giants’ four-game winning streak.

It was a dominant defensive performance and a productive offensive performance. The team performed well and there were standout individual performances, too.

What can we take away from the win?

Cardinals-Giants live scoring updates, highlights, news

Keep it here for live updates of the Week 14 battle.

The Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants battle in Week 14 in a game that has major playoff implications. The Cardinals are fighting to get back into the top seven. The Giants want to stay atop the NFC East.

How will this afternoon’s game go?

Follow along below for live updates during the game.

Daniel Jones, Blake Martinez active for Giants vs. Cardinals

Colt McCoy might still have a role in the offense in Week 14.

The two biggest questions for the New York Giants, at least concerning health and availability, have been answered with the release of their list of inactive players in Week 14. Against the Arizona Cardinals, quarterback Daniel Jones will play and so will linebacker Blake Martinez.

Both were questionable entering the weekend, Jones recovering from a hamstring that kept him out of the Giants’ game last week and Martinez suffering a back injury in Week 13.

Both will be in the starting lineup.

Here are New York’s inactive players against the Cardinals:

  • WR Dante Pettis
  • CB Darnay Holmes
  • ILB T.J. Brunson
  • OT Kyle Murphy
  • OT Jackson Barton
  • DE R.J. McIntosh

Colt McCoy started at quarterback in Week 13. He might still have a role in the game, according to Jordan Raanan.

In Holmes’ absence, rookie defensive back Xavier McKinney could see some action in the slot.

Kenyan Drake, DeAndre Hopkins active; Andy Isabella inactive for Cardinals

Isabella is a healthy scratch for the first time this season.

The Arizona Cardinals have announced their list of inactive players for their Week 14 contest against the New York Giants. Two of their top offensive weapons — receiver DeAndre Hopkins and running back Kenyan Drake — are good to go. They will dress and play.

Both were officially questionable for the game on the final injury report of the week.

However, for the first time this season, receiver Andy Isabella is inactive. He is a healthy scratch.

Here is the full list:

  • QB Brett Hundley
  • RB Eno Benjamin
  • K Zane Gonzalez
  • OL Josh Miles
  • WR Andy Isabella
  • OL Max Garcia
  • S Jalen Thompson

Thompson was ruled out early in the week as he recovers from an ankle injury. Gonzalez was ruled out on Saturday. Mike Nugent, elevated from the practice squad on Saturday, will handle kicking duties.

Isabella’s being inactive is likely partly due to the return of Larry Fitzgerald and partly because of the game plan. Playing against a similar defense as the New England Patriots, they will likely emphasize the running game, using multiple tight ends.

With KeeSean Johnson active, watch for the role he might have.

Defensively, linebacker De’Vondre Campbell is active. He did not practice all week. He will likely have a limited role, with more snaps going to rookie Isaiah Simmons.

Cardinals activate DL Jordan Phillips, CB Kevin Peterson from IR; make roster moves

Arizona announces a number of moves on the eve of their Week 14 game against the Giants.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a number of roster moves on Saturday before heading to New Jersey to take on the New York Giants. They get back a pair of defensive players and are down a kicker.

Below are the moves that they made on Saturday.

Mike Nugent to kick for Cardinals vs. Giants after Zane Gonzalez downgraded

Zane Gonzalez has a back injury. Originally questionable for the game, he was downgraded on Saturday.

The Arizona Cardinals will have a different kicker on Sunday when they take on the New York Giants. The team announced Zane Gonzalez was downgraded from questionable to out of the game with a back injury.

He suffered a back injury and was limited in practice on Friday.

With Gonzalez out, it means fans will get to see Mike Nugent.

Nugent, on the practice squad for most of the season, was elevated to the active roster.

The 38-year-old kicker has been in the league since 2005 but has not had a steady job since 2016.

He actually has kicked for the Cardinals before, appearing in two games, making two field goals and eight extra points in 2009.

In his career, he had made 80.9% of his field-goal attempts.

It will be interesting to see how he performs, especially if he is given an opportunity between 40-49 yards. Gonzalez has missed five such kicks this season, including three that would have either tied the game or given the Cardinals a lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Dueling expert picks for Cardinals-Giants in Week 14

We get picks from Cards Wire, Giants Wire and AZCentral Sports.

The Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants face one another this weekend in a game with big playoff implications. The Cardinals fell out of the final wild card spot last week with a loss but will move back in with a win. The Giants, at 5-7, have the lead in the NFC East but have the same record as the Washington Football Team. A win will keep them in the division lead.

How will this game play out?

We have predictions from some experts — mine, Giants Wire managing editor Dan Benton’s and the predictions from the AZCentral Sports staff that they gave in their weekly preview video.
